Spectators are allowed back in grounds from the 2nd. I’ll bet the highest paying corporate bods will be let in first.

[article]The Government will also introduce spectator capacity limits for sports stadia, business events and live performances in tiers where these are permitted. These limits will vary depending on whether the event is held indoors or out. At tier 1 these will be 50% capacity or 4,000 outdoors and 1,000 indoors, whichever is lower and at tier 2 these will be 50% capacity or 2,000 outdoors and 1,000 indoors, whichever is lower.

It’s a waste of time for premier league teams.

So Liverpool will be in the max tier, no fans. But our away games and london rivals' home games will be fine.

It'll probably sound worse than the awful recorded fan noise. The TV people will have to use it, but it'll be quite distracting to have such echoey sounds from the stands. But otherwise, better than nothing, I guess.

Actually it has sounded quite good at grounds overseas where this practice was in use. Real time cheers and moans and groans and the echoey bit multiplies the volume ! Only season ticket holders from the Kop that promise to sing loud and proud permitted in Anfield.

The atmosphere will be electric .. like an appreciative gathering at a chess tournament

I can't think of a greater insult than allowing a few high paying individuals in their knee length winter coats and thermal gloves to be dotted around a massive stadium blowing onto the capuccinos and checking their oh so smartphones. Peoples game pffft.

And we should be grateful... better than nothing blah blah blah

Even as a ooter I think LFC tickets during the pandemic should go to the locals.

Liverpool is 111th out of the 160 areas based upon current R rate.

I'll be fucking amazed if we end up in Tier 3.

Prepare to be amazed. Actually, if they wanted to “sell” mass testing to local authorities then sticking us in tier 1 would be the way to do it.

They want to sell mass testing to the, well, masses, so yeah, that'll help, but only in securing what is blatantly obviously correct, tier 2.

Tier 1 would be ace, we could actually drink without buying chips every fucking time we order, but I'll take tier 2.

London may get lashed in to tier 3. No way we will be lower than London. So no pints at all.

From memory, the tiers last time were anything over 100 cases per 100,000 population was tier 2. Anything over 200 per 100,000 was tier 3.

Liverpool currently 174 per 100,000

They may well move the goalposts of course.

The latest scientific modelling by sage will revise this critically important cut off rate down to 173.99, but just for the north, there will be a different model for the south.

It's half the capacity up to a maximum of 4000, or so I read.

Where does 2000 come from?

I spoke to the head steward in July (he works elsewhere with my mum as his full time job) & he said with 2m restrictions & restrictions on entry/passageways, exits etc they could do 8000 provided people were prepared to arrive & leave earlier & later than usual, & at that time they were making plans to find the maximum possible as they thought it could possibly be higher.

Can’t wait for this. Even 2000 fans (if they are allowed to breathe and make noises) can be a huge difference in the way the game feels for the players and for the rest of us watching on the telly.

Confirmed Liverpool in tier 2

How will they divid those 2000? 500 in each stand?
Will be magic to watch that game and just hear some fans inside the stadium making some noise.
Lovely!

Conspiracy fume will explode, probably.

Who are the lucky 2000? It better be all locals and season ticket holders.
