A fine player. Is he fit?

If he is, where is he? Enrique is fair enough, but what about the bench?

If he's not, mods please delete the thread, thanks.

Here's a something to ponder:

Would an injury free Aurelio have done better than Downing if he'd started as many games as him? (assist/goal wise)

Now replace Aurelio with Babel.

I'd say yes on both cases.

I'd also like to claim that a fully fit Aurelio was as good or even better than Enrique.

Babel ? Lol
I bet you he'd score or create something if he got to start 10-11 games like Downing.

The most overrated full back we have had in ages.

He was never that good.

And the lb we have now is twice the player he ever was when fit.

I bet he wouldn't. We'll never know

True, let's ask Spidey for a non biased view on the matter.

aurelio was/is an excellent fullback when fit which unfortunately is hardly ever. I think enrique is stronger on the ball and quicker, but for technique and passing ability I don't think enrique can hold a candle to aurelio. aurelio problem isn't talent it's fitness or rather lack of it, he just can't be relied up.

Jose's passing is excellant and I've seen nothing wrong with his technique so far.

Overrated by whom? Fabio Windever? Me?
He was average at best but because we had the likes of Stephen Warnock and Dossena before him people thought he was Evra because of a couple of good games when he was fit.

I even remember Brendan starting a thread talking about how wrong he was about him after we thumped utd 4-1.

He was nowhere near Jose's level who I've been over the moon with so far.

Aurelio's crossing...magic.
Best crosser I've seen since Barnes to be honest.

FABIO AURELIO - UNSUNG HERO

The strange thing with Aurelio is that he can be out for like 2 months and then play a blinder against some top side like Man U.

Fabio was a great full back when fit. I loved him. He was classy, composed and had good games against the so called top teams. Such a shame he's made of glass.

I think it's within my remit to ban DB for his heinous comments

Ha... Mr "let's be controversial for the sake of it"

Aurelio was NOT overrated, he was a quality player.

I'm close to tears after watching that youtube clip. Do we actually have another player in the squad that can pull off those types of crosses?
He would've been so much better on the left than Stuart Downer.
Man, I miss Fabs. (not the mod 😉 )

He IS a quality player.
So is Maxi, but not according to DB.

Fabio is a cracking little player and, when fit and on the pitch, rarely lets us down. Shame he's made out of the same material as poppadums.

On a sidenote:

FABIO AURELIO is set to leave Liverpool this summer.

The 32-year-old left-back is out of contract at the end of the season and there have been no talks about a new deal.

The popular Brazilian, who has been dogged by injuries throughout his Reds career, is expected to return to South America to finish his playing days.

Aurelio has made just two first team appearances so far this season. He started last month’s FA Cup tie against Oldham and then made a brief substitute appearance in the recent league win at Wolves.

Jose Enrique has established himself as Kenny Dalglish’s first choice left-back since arriving from Newcastle last August.

With Glen Johnson equally at home on either flank and highly-rated young full-backs Jack Robinson and Jon Flanagan also able to play on the left, Aurelio has slipped down the pecking order.

Aurelio’s quality has never been in doubt but he has been beset by a succession of injury problems since arriving at Anfield on a free transfer from Valencia in 2006.

The first Brazilian to ever sign for the Reds, he missed the 2007 Champions League final against AC Milan after rupturing his Achilles in the quarter-final against PSV.

His best season for Liverpool came in 2008/09 when he clocked up 33 appearances and netted memorable free-kicks against Portsmouth, Manchester United and Chelsea. However, Aurelio sat out the start of the following season after injuring his knee following a freak accident while playing with his son in the garden.

After a disappointing campaign and with his contract running out in the summer of 2010 he rejected Rafa Benitez’s offer of a pay-as-you-play deal. He briefly left the club but just months later was back when new boss Roy Hodgson offered him a two-year contract.

Last season he started just 13 games and this term he hadn’t kicked a ball competitively until Oldham came to Anfield last month. But Aurelio is determined to add to his 133 appearances for Liverpool between now and the end of the season, hoping to be involved against Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.

“I am feeling good,” he said. “I am enjoying the training sessions every day and improving. I am available and waiting for an opportunity to get on the pitch again.

“It’s up to the manager to decide who is involved in each match, but my aim is to be available as much as possible and see what his thoughts are.”

Aurelio is a classy footballer, certainly. Unfortunately, he's cursed physically, and not that great at defending, which makes him a bit limited as a fullback.

I think he proves himself to be a decent defender after a run of games in the side. As said though, that run of games never happens.
