Rumours have spread that the first signing of Dalglish's return to Anfield will be Portugese wing-back, Fábio Coentrão. But according to Wikipedia, the 22 year-old has already signed for Liverpool, and is playing with the number 39 on his shirt!

Now obviously Wikipedia is not a reliable site in which you can draw solid conclusions as to player transfers, as anyone could have changed his current club information. However, there may be some truth to the rumours that Fábio Coentrão will sign for Liverpool this January.

PLEASE!!

I would love that but don't mind wiki. It said a while back that Defour played for Stevenage.

Sorry Roland. I think 39 is Eccleston.

Isnt Nathan going out on loan? I'd love it if we got Fabio but this is something to at least get us a bit excited. No more journeymen like Poulsen and Konchesky! That God for that.

I think he's still here Roland. I agree with you though, I would love it if Coentrao joined us.

what fucking rumours?

Newly installed caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish and Director of Football Damien Comolli have reportedly been busy drawing up plans for the January transfer window and are keen on making moves for Benfica full back Fabio Coentrao, Stoke City centre back Ryan Shawcross and Utrecht striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.
Portuguese international Coentrao is attacting a lot of interest and is thought to be a player that Comolli rates very highly and given Benfica’s poor showing this season, eight points behind leaders Porto, Liverpool may feel they can persuade the 22 year old wing back to push for a move.
Dutch international Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is a player that has interested the Merseyside club for a few months now and some sources suggest that an offer of around £8.5m was made for the Utrecht man and Liverpool appear willing to up that original offer in order to beat off interest from Napoli in the prolific Eredivisie striker.
Liverpool had been strongly linked with Stoke City defender Robert Huth but apparently his team-mate, and former Man United player, Ryan Shawcross is also a player the Anfield side is keen on bringing in to help stabilize an error prone defence.
Dalglish and Comolli will be looking to find ways to bring in realistic targets in January so as to help the club salvage something from a season that has been truly woeful but they will also be looking to bring in players who are there for the long term and will therefore only be looking to buy players in the relatively early stages of their careers and these three fit that bill and would not require the club’s owners to fork out excessive amounts of money in the process

Seeing as everyone can change a Wiki site, it's probably the most unreliable source out there.

Suarez wiki page said Liverpool yesterday awsell, and also something about hating rat boy Neville if I remember correctly...

Please make it true. That would send the message to the team, the fans, rival clubs and other potential targets that Liverpool is a club on the rise, not in decline. They NEED to make a statement like that.

Needless to say, solving our perennial weakness at LB for years to come - nothing could be better.

I like Coentrao but he's always come across better at attacking than defending to me and I'm not sure it's the kind of player we need atm. Could someone who has seen him play more give a bit of a summary on him and his strengths and weaknesses?

He was one of the players who really impressed me during the WC. He looked like Evra when Evra had that excellent season a few years ago.

This would be a massive signing, not only for the team but also as a signal of intend from the owners to us fans as well as our opponents. Coentrao is one of the most sought after left backs out there.

We mean business.

This would be great. I remember seeing him play in the under 20 or 21 world cup and he was playing as a left winger and looked very very good. He has since been converted to left back and his defending at the world cup and every time I've seen Benfica play has been very impressive. Please happen.

Story regarding Suarez is that he favours a move to Spurs, or more precisely, London.
[/quote]

Every other rumour out there acutally contradicts that as they say he favour a move to us mate.

Noone probably knows anyway..

going out on loan.... so his shirt would become available

Coentrao's a very good player, but I would worry about a back four with him and Magic as our full-backs. Both are VERY attacking.

Probably wishful thinking anyway...

He is similar to our very own attacking right back...

Amazing when on form and attacking teams.. Fairly risky and average when asked to defend.

If we play a game that suits attacking full backs then excellent.. if not.. expect our defensive woes to continue

I'd happily play with two Johnson-esc fullbacks. Being on the front foot will always have the opposition worried. It's a shame we don't have mascher anymore cos he was perfect for covering the full backs when they were forward with his incredible engine.

I'd love us to sign him, the story I read said something about him wanting to bring up his daughter in London..

There's no doubt our defensive woes are in part due to Masher no longer providing such exceptional cover.

Yeah, I read that too. I think it's all a load of bollocks though. He'll probably end up staying put.

On another note, I've been incredibly unproductive at work today - all I've been reading is football stuff. I've realised I'm desperate for some exciting transfer news. Someone, Redshrek? Bring some excitement to our lives!

Wingbacks in a 3-5-2?

That would be quite interesting. Doubt it'll happen but looks quite good on paper.

Yeah, I agree with that Doc.
If we do sign this guy and he & Magic are our fullbacks we will need to buy a top DM because no one at the club is specialised enough to play there as it is.

I agree except that we need to buy a top DM regardless of who our full backs are.
