2017/2018 promises to be record in how much clubs will spend. It's said that our net budget is around £100m (£200m + after sales) but I am wondering what other clubs are?

Arsenal is reported to have anything from £150-£200m

City anything upto £250m

Utd between £200m-£400m

Chelsea (unknown), but Conte seems unhappy at whatever that figure in

Spurs have for a long time been shrewd and due to new stadium development will they continue the frugality into the new season?

the league as a whole only spent a billion for the 16/17 season and its now expected the top 4/6 reach that alone ?

crazy

And so starts the Gross vs Net spend argument again. When's the last time this happened?

No idea, but thats clearly not why i mentioned.

Spending 100m net in one summer seems highly unlikely given the spends over the past 6 years.

We will spend net 20/30m like we always do

Arsenal 50/60m
Spurs 20/30m
Chelsea 40/50m

Manchester both 70/80m

What's our total net spend since FSG took over - is it much more than 150m ?

Spookily close. From transfermarkt, in 6.5 seasons, we've spent about 618m euros and brought in 441m euros.
Works out to 177m euro nett spend, which at current rate... is about £ 149m.

So since 2010 we have averaged less than 15m spend per window net.

And people think we will go 150m deep this summer.
Not a chance.

Make no mistake FSG will be DELIGHTED with our season if we finish top 4.
Big pay out for 4th
Huge TV contract
Champions league dollar next season
For a NET 12m spend per window.
Those boys are cock a hoop.

Fuck trophies. Money Money Money.

I actually think they'll spend a chunk of the expected cl revenue on the team would we get cl.

I also think klopp spent less than he would have been able to last summer so he would have more to spend when we're a cl club.

Fsg are obv in it it for the money, but they're longer term thinkers, so will see the benefit in having us in the CL regularly when they do come to sell up or come to get a long term slice of club only tv rights. That's how they will make real money, not by getting a piece of the cl money from one season.

I am feeling rather confident we'll see some massive spending from our side this season, when ChL is secured of course.

And how much have Spurs and Arsenal spent? Because I think it's more what you have spent the money on than how much you have spent. Still think we overspend on dross than most of our competitors although that could just be bias on my part.

we have lots more Match day revenue in the kitty now, right?
meaning from an average game, we've obv played lots less this season

Klopps on a 6 year contract and cant see him do a rafa and having a strop over transfer. This suits fsg to a tee – ‘A project’ - No need to spend big.

I don't think FSG are cheap - they just aren't wasting their own cash on anything.

The Red Sox didn't start spending big until they had sorted out and paid for their stadium upgrades.

I think once we've redeveloped Anfield we'll be grand.

By the way, I think the estimated nett spend should be 212m euros which is about £180m; about 30m higher than the figure I posted earlier. This is because I forgot to deduct the fees from the sales of some players in 10/11 that occurred before FSG took over.

The playoff qualifier game in August if you finish 4th is a massive ball ache isn't it?

Its a massive fault with the system. How does a club budget properly without the assurance that you will actually be in the champions league proper? For all we know we finish 4th and then get a crappy fixture to some good spanish team or some godawful eastern European team who are more match fit and motivated than we are.

Saw something on twitter this morning alluding to a piece they did on SKY Sports last night after our game. Apparently over the last 2 seasons (i.e. since the start of last season) our net spend has been £5m and Tottenham's has been £7m! City were on something ridiculous like £270m, United @ £130m-ish and I think Arsenal were on £90m. Chavs were only on about £40m I think. Maybe someone can find the exact figures?

Given that Spurs spent so little they have accrued (considerably) more points than any other team over the 2 seasons! Our points tally is roughly on a par with the other 4 teams mentioned which is a decent return given our outlay (or lack of).

Nah, that can't be right, at least for us and Spurs. That's if you trust transfermarkt's data:

Liverpool:
16/17: buy - 68m, sell: 72m
15/16: buy - 106m, sell: 76m
Nett over 2 seasons: buy 26m

Spurs:
16/17: buy - 70m, sell: 44m
15/16: buy - 60m, sell: 74m
Nett over 2 seasons: buy 12m

Ergo we dont spend big and expecting 150m is bonkers this summer.
We will spend what we always do and compete-ish for top 4 like we always should.

Word is the FSG war chest has been flown in. It was too heavy for the private jet that shuttles our Brazilians home, and they needed to hire a jumbo jet.

I'm sensing a little frustration and sarcasm in your post.
Are you trying to tell us that FSG need to reaffirm their priorities?

Since FSG took over we've spent about 26 mill net per season. After we qualified for the CL in 13/14 we had a net spend of nearly 40 mill the following season.

If we qualify for the CL now, I think its safe to say we'll spend more than that.

So £150 million then?
We wont.

And dont talk per season.
Per WINDOW we average 12 to 13 million right?

Summer is *A* window. Not *A* season.

We will spend Net about 20m
Thats about all we do.
