Im afraid Rafa is gone for no other reason than that he failed in his job, and blaming finances for his departure is a nonsense

Really? I can't stand how on RAWK there are so many who can't see Rafa's culpability for on field performances, because he made so many mistakes in the transfer market and in team selection at the end. But to simplify things the opposite way is just as ridiculous.

Well to be fair, we could have paid upto £16m to get rid. And besides, it's one and the same. He got sacked because he failed at his job, which had financial and footballing implications. They go hand in hand don't they? The club needs as much revenue as it can get, so why would they pay off Benitez (and his staff who go) AND give a £2m a year contract to Hodgson??

I'm not simplifying things, but I think it's naive to suggest he only went because of the CL money we lost. If it was about CL money, which is one of the biggest revenue's in the game, wouldn't they have been better sticking with Rafa, who had an excellent record in Europe? Even despite failure to get in there this season, they could have banked on Rafa getting us a long enough run in the Europa Cup to almost cover the shortfall.

Well the way I view it is, and I appreciate that others hold different views:

Rafa's job was to win us the league. If he couldnt do that then his job was to mount a serious title challenge. If he couldnt do that then his job was to qualify for the CL.

I believe that it was his failure in the above that ultimately cost him his job. You can of course say that not qualifying for the CL cost us a lot of money, and nobody can argue with that, but that only came about because of Rafa failing in his job.

No. He said he wanted the job, but Broughton wants him to develop his ambassadorial role and stay even longer term in that role than a manger normally stays in his

I took from this that he wants it to be more like a Director of Football - he said that Dalglish would be working closely with Hodgson but the exact nature of the development of his role was yet to be decided.

You're the one with a mate at BarCap - is Broughton trying to do what he says he is or is he a big fat liar?

You should just have listened to soft old twats like me and the more level headed posters and you could have saved yourself a lot of anguish 😉

It is a bit of a parallel universe though, isn't it? Or a series of them.

Not really. I have been fortunate on a few occasions to meet several of the people that "are just another bunch of text in crackerjack internet world"
Strange as it may seem their real life persona and views are very much what you see on here, and how you imagine them to be.

I didn't mean to say that people are phony on here, but that opinions on forums are polarised and made more extreme, and it's all mixed in with journalistic articles, which are almost unanimously misleading...

Of course you can say I should have listned to you because you were taking the "balanced view" but how do I differentiate between that and someone who might be burying their head in the sand.

I couldn't feel better until having had the opportunity to have a good look at Broughton himself (although I accept that I could have been deceived) because only then would he cease to be a shadowy character I could relect all my fears onto.

I think it's fair to say that i was one of Rafa's biggest fans and would of been more than happy if he was still in charge. Now that he's gone and we've got Roy in though i'm excited and looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.

Hopefully this feeling will be increased over the coming weeks and Roy will be able to add a few players that we've been desperately short of for a season or two. If the board stick to their recent promise of reinvesting any money generated from sales back in to the squad, i see no reason why we can't surprise quite a few with our performances.

I wish posters would stop this constant abuse of Rafa and now Roy, one deserves a lot more respect than he's getting and the other has yet to do anything to warrent such crap.

Let it go and get behind the club.
