Apart from really enjoying the WC (Come on Argentina!) I am very excited about the new season for the first time in 2 years.

That thread of "Roy out now" is a disgrace.

But putting that aside I would be surpised if most posters here wouldn't be upbeat and excited.

3 of the top 4 sides in the first weeks of the season. A new manager, ho knows the prem, understands our history, likes to ply good football and can movtivate average players to play to their best.

In my opinion considering our money situation this is not a bad appointment at all.

Of course we all wanted Jose or someone as impressive, but for now I am quiet happy and willing to give Roy 100% backing.

Bye bye negative Dreamy!

Roll on Aug.

Unbelievable. It's a disgrace to shit on a manager in the job for less than a day who has accomplished nothing, but it's fine to shit on someone who accomplished a lot for us and was here for years. Of all the moral compasses.

Actually it was "Hodgson Out" and it was done tongue in cheek, although I do feel we can do better, I'm going to be acting dreamy and all in love for a while in the hope that this managerial honeymoon period lasts a long time...I haven't been this excited about a Roy since that Record Breakers program in the 80's...

I was talking about the irony of Dreambeliever saying it was a disgrace...

If we are languishing in the bottom half this year what tune will Dreamy sing then!?

I said it for 2 years that I liked Rafa but he would never win the league and so it came to pass. How is that shitting on him.

As you were.

PS Rafa was brought in for 1 reason.

To win the league. His 1st press conference was all about him winning us the league.

He failed at his no1 objective and I just highlighted 4 years in when I could see it wouldn't happen.

After 4 years!! Big difference between that and Roy.

It will depend on alot of things.

Players, funds injuries.

I will always stand by the idea that Rafa had the money available to bring in the players to win the league 2 years ago and spunked it on Dossena and Keane.

For that their is no excuse.

If for instance Gerrard Torres and Masher left, well then mid table would be understandable.

Let's see what happens first.

Will people stop talking about Rafa being brought in to win the league? The owners of course would like that level of success, but Rafa isn't gone this year because he didn't win the league, he's gone because we lost millions missing out on the CL.

DB, please. As if your stance was so philosophical. I can recall you calling him shit on multiple occasions, which he just isn't. You reveled in his failure, now you want to make sure no speaks ill of a manager who hasn't been here for more than a day.

It was disappointingly bad for Rafa in the end but the excitement coming from certain posters in particular over the arrival of Hodgson is amusing.

I don't really understand how anyone can be excited right now. We've brought in the budget option to "steady the ship" and rather than looking forward to all the wonderful new players we're going to sign and the trophies they'll win us, we're more concerned about losing the wonderful players we already have.

Hope is more or less all we've got to hang onto at the moment.

Watch the first press conference with Rafa again listen to Parry and come back to me.

I had a go at Rafa's tactics once it was clear he was never going to cut in the EPL with Liverpool.

Not before his team kicked a ball. Massive difference and if you can't see that then it's obvious why you psot what you psot.

Ha smart arse.

As I've said big difference between having a go after 4 seasons and having a go after 0 minutes.

Hypocrite me bollix

Im not over excited at the appointment either, but Im prepared to give the man a chance.

Im afraid Rafa is gone for no other reason than that he failed in his job, and blaming finances for his departure is a nonsense

I think it's fair to say that i was one of Rafa's biggest fans and would of been more than happy if he was still in charge. Now that he's gone and we've got Roy in though i'm excited and looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.

Hopefully this feeling will be increased over the coming weeks and Roy will be able to add a few players that we've been desperately short of for a season or two. If the board stick to their recent promise of reinvesting any money generated from sales back in to the squad, i see no reason why we can't surprise quite a few with our performances.

I wish posters would stop this constant abuse of Rafa and now Roy, one deserves a lot more respect than he's getting and the other has yet to do anything to warrent such crap.

Let it go and get behind the club.

Finances had everything to do with the appointment of Roy Hodgson, though.

A footballing decison made by two men who know nothing about football.
Who asked the opinion of Kenny Dalglish, but when he gave it, they shoved him aside and ignored him.
Who made a footballing appointment that has nothing to do with football, otherwise Woy wouldn't have got a sniff.

Here's why he got the job:

Cheap, available, amiable, won't rock the boat or moan, regardless of what ignominy is thrown upon him. A man who hasn't really achieved anything of note in 35 years of management, but was obviously going to JUMP at the chance to manage Liverpool, because he knows that under normal circumstances, he wouldn't have a fucking hope of getting the job.

A nice, quiet, grateful "safe pair of hands"

Brendan,

I think it's a case where everybody knows the real reason behind the appointment due to the situation we are in.
If we had money, as you rightly point out, we wouldn't have appointed him.

But given that we don't, i think it is a safe signing. I would have preferred Kenny or Pellegrino, but he is not so much worse compared to them, is he?

I agree. It is hard to get excited about his signing. But, i think he has had enough of a managerial career for us to get behind him.

Which is what most of the people on the forum seem to be arguing for.

Apologies for skipping that mega thread....it looks daunting.

I'm hugely excited because I believe that Roy has the potential to do something special with us. He has 3 decades of footballing experience and that will stand us in good stead!

I can't wait for the new season to kick off!

board: kenny, we want you to put forward who you think is the best man for the job

kenny: okay, me.

board: ha ha ha nice one kenny, who do you really think is the best man for the job

Really? I can't stand how on RAWK there are so many who can't see Rafa's culpability for on field performances, because he made so many mistakes in the transfer market and in team selection at the end. But to simplify things the opposite way is just as ridiculous.

I was sick to death of Rafa and I'm glad we can try a new angle. Hodgson wasn't my first choice, and anxiety about Broughton exacerbated my fears that Hodgson wasn't what we needed.

Watching the full conference yesterday changed things a fair bit though. Of course it's possible that he's lying through his teeth and all my worst fears could come true, but it seemed very likely that I was just completely paranoid, having heard too much from the crackerjack internet world and not enough from the actual club.

You have to watch the full conference to see what I mean, I guess, but (although he sounds like a bit of a nob, saying things like "fiducary doodies&quot😉 I got the impression that he has his head screwed on, he knows his own area of expertise and he wants decent, sensible people in other positions at the club.

Waking up to this (and obviously I recognise that I've just walked out of one mind state into another, but after watching the conference it was very hard to stay paranoid, so I just went with it) I was able to look at Hodgson again without bias and I think he's the steady pair of hands we need. I don't believe he was the budget choice, but was chosen because Kenny said he ws the best out of the candidates, because he's sensible and thoughtful, because he was voted manager of the year by his peers...

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned there is reason for optimism

was it the MD or the Chairman who said it will take 3 years to steady the great ship LFC. And Roy is given 3 years. That could means Roy will steady LFC at number 17th and after which we get a new owner and new manager and maybe a new stadium?

*despair*

No. He said he wanted the job, but Broughton wants him to develop his ambassadorial role and stay even longer term in that role than a manger normally stays in his
