United have also been advertising standard tickets in the MEN all year, for the first time I can remember. It was a common pisstake by them that City had to advertise in the MEN, yet now so do they.

United are finding it increasingly difficult to sell corporate boxes
Interesting. I thought that due to the limited availability selling boxes wouldn't be a problem.

You may be surprised to hear that this isn't the first time I've been wrong about something.
I suppose it all depends on how much you charge for them, and what you get for your money.

Most of the "corporate" seats at The Emirates aren't actually in a box, but in separate tiers, with easy access to bars and restaurants that "ordinary" season ticket holders can't access.

Of course there are some boxes, but I've never been in one on a match day, so can't really comment.

My boss was down a Croke Park at the weekend and was in something similar, a stand separated from the commoners with good access to corporate bars.

Incidentally there were 390 away fans at the game on Monday. How many would they have been allocated
It's usually c. 2000

I was in the Liverpool once and got some a free dinner before the game (curry I think) and promptly dropped it all over the floor :-[

There was empty seats scattered all over the place. A big chunk in the Anfield Road End, and pockets all over the main stand.

These could as well come from Season ticket holders. So the income was there anyway.

Also a new stadium will give much more income from VIP section.

yep, people often seem to overlook the second point. i've been in a private box at arsenal and the amount of money they must rake in from it is huge: ours was maybe 12ft wide so you can imagine how many they'd squeeze in round the whole ground, and there are a few layers of them. then you've got the restaurants etc...

it does seem crazy that in 10 years we've been unable to get the funding in place...perhaps it was available but the previous owners were unwilling to see our future mortgaged, i guess that would make sense when you see the problems teams like soton and leicester have had.
There's far more call for VIP/ corporate boxes in London for very obvious reasons, so there's not much chance we could ever expect to match that particular revenue stream.
well, i almost mentioned that but didn't cos i'd assumed that the club would have done their homework and identified a demand. there's obviously more business & wealth in london, but whether that means there isn't enough in the north west to compete, i couldn't say. liverpool's a big club and england's a small country, though, so maybe.
