Jermaine Pennant.

Real Zaragoza winger Jermaine Pennant is facing a heavy fine after after arriving late to training for the third time in two weeks.

Pennant was prevented from training and sent home by coach Jose Gay, who will recommend to the club that the former Arsenal and Liverpool player also suffers a financial punishment.

The 27-year-old arrived late for training twice last week, claiming that one delay was because he had been stopped by police for speeding on the motorway.

Pennant has struggled to adapt to life in Spain, while his club have struggled to adapt to life in La Liga - Zaragoza currently lie fourth from bottom in the table and are in danger of heading straight back down to the Segunda Division, from which they were promoted last season.

He is still having to make use of a translator in training to understand his coach and team-mates and has failed to impress on the pitch since his free transfer move from Liverpool last summer, playing 90 minutes on only four occasions this campaign.

He just doesn't get it, does he ?

Didn't he do an interview a while back claiming things were going well? Maybe he actually thinks they are. Getting paid a lot, nice weather, not having to do much.

He really was one of the worst signings we ever made wasn't he?

Pennant pales into insignificance alongside Keane, Dossena and Aquilani, unfortunately. We paid an average price for an average player, one who stood out for one season in a shit, relegation fodder side.

No surprises. No expectation.

Behaviour like this is really gonna hamper Jermaine's chances of getting in the World Cup Squad.

Isn't it just ?

"Oh, come on now, you can't blame/fine me for being late to training AGAIN, I was stopped on the motorway, AGAIN, by the police, AGAIN, for speeding, A FUCKING GAIN !"

I love Tennant's facial expression. He wears this permanent look of bemused, stupid, impotent anger.

Like he realises he's fucking stupid - and deep down knows he's largely responsible for that - but wants to blame someone else anyway.

YOu're giving him some credit there. HAving enough intelligence to realise he has no intelligence. I genuinely believe he thinks there's a conspiracy against him

His hair is really irritating, too.

Diouf is the bigger cunt though.

Pennant's just fucking thick.
Agreed. I don't think Diouf is exactly clever either of course but you don't get much more stupid than Pennant

He let Anelka go and bought Diouf instead. What on earth was Ged thinking?
That Anelka wouldn't score many goals and would be a divisive and unpopular player.

One decision every liverpool fan rues.

I remember when we brought Morientes we were rumoured to be getting one of Anelka, Berbatov or Morientes. Look where the other two have ended up. 🙁

In fairness I for one didn't want Berbatov (whom I think many people saw as talented but too temperamental even then) any more than I wanted Morientes, but I defo wanted us to sign Anelka. Just imagine opposition defences having to face him AND Torres. >🙁

Knowing Jermaine like we do, he'll put this temporary blip and stain on his character to one side, and get back to doing what he does best; working hard on the football pitch, letting his feet do the talking, and ensuring his undoubted talent doesn't go to waste.
