European Premier League

Nobody wants it, but it doesn't matter what us normal folk think. If the money men want it, it will happen eventually.

I remember a football annual I had in about 1980 (Shoot? Match?) that had a whole thing about a European superleague.
Didn't happen then and I hope to fuck it doesn't happen now.
Dreadful idea.

It hardly seems to be the perfect time to bring this up (fan opposition aside).

If CV-19 doesn't get zapped, which is highly likely (and most Corona vaccines will reportedly only offer around 60-70% protection against infection anyway), then crossing multiple borders per week isn't exactly going to be encouraged (even with improved testing).

Then with possibly even more severe entry quarantine restrictions / testing on the horizon, and likely different Govt. regulations in each country, the days of quick 24/48 hours return overseas trips may be long gone for a long time to come, and not just for players so you can shelve those Prague/Amsterdam plans!

That could quickly dissipate any enthusiasm (from the clubs) for a weekly Euro-league even before it kicks off. We need to see how the CL/EL is handled this season and what future developments there are with CV-19.

A bit nervous with our team traveling to the NL today/yesterday. Much higher infection rate over there than even in the UK (1:2000 vs 1:3,200).

Do you remember when N'cazzle were briefly at the top of the table? Their chairman John Hall was on radio and TV practically every day, talking about a Super League not only as if it was inevitable but also as if the barcodes would basically be in charge of it. I've always thought that gave a telling insight into that ridiculous club - there's no middle point in their emotional range, it's either sobbing self-pity or insane megalomania - but it also suggests this more general pipe dream is little more than a puff of the tuff stuff.

As a tournament one every two years, in between the World Cup & Euro's I would welcome it...
As a break away League...?? Not sure how to veiw this. Would need more detail

Are we the bad guys now ?

First operation big picture and now this and were the top named club , I suppose due to current stature attached to each project

Both of these things have clearly been spoken about internally well before they came to spoken of in the press so have our lizard overlords been plotting a coup for a while now ?

Seems like this could very well be happening sooner than expected.

Barcelona president Bartomeu and the rest of the board resigned and then confirmed that Barcelona had agreed to join the proposed European Super League.

Barcelona accept offer to join European Super League as Josep Bartomeu quits Nou Camp

Josep Bartomeu resigned as Barcelona president - but not before announcing that the Catalan giants had accepted an offer to join a European Super League

Outgoing Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu dropped a bombshell as he announced his departure from the Nou Camp by declaring that the Catalan giants have accepted an offer to join a European Super League.

It was reported last week that Manchester United and Liverpool were part of plans for a competition dubbed the 'European Premier League' which would involve Europe's biggest and most powerful clubs.

And Bartomeu, who has left Barcelona after six years at the helm and off the back of a tumultuous summer, says the Blaugrana have accepted a place in a proposed league.

He said: "I can announce some extraordinary news. Yesterday we accepted a proposal to participate in a future European Super League, which would guarantee the future financial sustainability of the club.

"And we have accepted the future Club World Cup format."

Like many I don't want any change and want to keep things as they are but if so-called "progress" has to happen then I would rather a World Champions League than a European Super League. A World Champions League is far more exciting for me. The chance to lock horns with the South and North American teams excite me more than just a revamped European League (one that supposedly has no relegation?).

If we have a World Champions League it should follow the same format as the current CL meaning you have to win your national league to have the chance of playing in it. That would ensure that the national leagues don't get cheapened. What to do with the ECL in this instance? Well, that can become the second-tier European tournament for the teams that finish outside the top 4 with the winner getting the chance to go into the World Champions League. I actually think a World Champions LEague would actually help to grow the game in North America more so than the MLS. North American teams would love the opportunity to play the European teams eve if it did mean they would get their asses whipped on a constant basis.

I know some are gonna hate this idea but for me its more palatable than a no relegation European Super League.

..this penalty is presented to you by Geico...

...and before we head back to the studio it's time for the Toyota highlights of the game

...and we're back just in time to see the two teams enter the pitch. Will we see the same dominant performance by the Liverpool Redbirds in the second half? The Manchester Devils look fired up as they line up for the kick off.
This kick off is brought to you by Arby's.

...the man of the match award is brought to you by KFC, it's finger licking good!
