HT in most games, scores as follows:

Croatia 0 Turkey 0

I think this will be the second time on the trot that Hiddink fails to get his team through. Overrated much ?

Montenegro 0 Czech Republic 0

Rep of Ireland 1 Estonia 0

Estonia are a horrendous football team, that they could get to a playoff is a sad indictment of the state of international football.

Congratulations to Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Ingerlund and any other country anyone on here is rooting for.

*GROUP HUG*

Yay!
It will make the Euros a bit more interesting though I suspect that most countries, rightfully or wrongfully, will fancy drawing us in their group.
Hats of to Trapp, his football isn't easy on the eye but it is hard to argue with what he has achieved, missing out on a world Cup place via Henry's hand and qualifying for the Euros in his second tournament in charge, with possibly the weakest Irish team in thirty years.

They should re-work 'put'em under pressure', new version will be 'put us under pressure and hope for a winning goal on the break, but we'll settle for a draw at worst'.

Not really as catchy though.

The 16 teams that will compete for the Henri Delaunay Cup are:
Poland (co-hosts)
Ukraine (co-hosts)
Spain (holders)
Croatia
Czech Republic
Denmark
England
France
Germany
Greece
Italy
Netherlands
Portugal
Republic of Ireland
Russia
Sweden

I don't know , there's a few teams in there that Ireland could easily do well against , depending on the draw of course .And I'm sure they'll hold their own against others . Getting there is the big achievement , the rest is a bonus . I mean how many countries with a population under 5m really do well ? Uaregay are the only ones that really spring to mind.

*Edit ...and I guess croatia also in fairness .

I hope we don't get drawn with England.

I really hope you do.

I love NATION WARS.

I BEEN TELLING MUTHA FUCKAS HIDDINK AIN'T SHIT !

To be fair to Hiddink, the Turkey job is one of the hardest jobs at International level.

The culture that surrounds Turkish football is full of beauracracy and politics.

Did you see the first leg between Turkey & Croatia?

Galatasaray & Fenerbahce players were arguing with each other on the pitch for most of the game. And this is not just a one off, this happens quite often. To add you have players like Emre, Sarioglu & Turan who are demanding even higher win bonuses when they should be concentrating on qualification.

When Hiddink has the full committment of players to the cause instead of politics he is able to achieve results.

Russia is a prime example.

Went into Euro 2008 as unknowns to most people ... Hiddink did well and the Russians were a joy to watch.

Then players like Arshavin & Pavyluchenko get big egos and go on and on in the media about how good they are ... and saying how big clubs are chasing them etc ... Russia's performances have suffered as a result, and so has their's at club level.

I work with a Turkish guy who supports Fener and he said he would prefer it if no player's from Gala we're on the national team. He said he wouldn't support them for the national team or cheer them on, nothing.

Pot 1: Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine
Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia
Pot 3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden
Pot 4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland

I'll take Poland, England, Greece please for Ireland.

Ireland Greece would possibly be the worst 90 minutes of football in history.

Wowzers. Some potential groups of death there.

Best scenario - Poland, Russia, Greece, Ireland

Worst scenario - Spain, Germany, Portugal, Ireland

Why would you want Russia again? Did you not see our 2 games against them in qualifying.

I want England, mainly just because it's England. But in my opinion we're much better equipped to deal with them or Italy rather than Russia.

That worst case scenario group is sick

I don't particularly want England because the media shit storm would be too much to bear.
I wouldn't necessarily agree that we would have the best chance of getting a result against them either.

Your point about Russia turning us over twice is a valid one though they have struggled at times too and are inconsistent.
I don't know what the form of the Italians is like but if Aqualini is making their squad how good can they be I suppose.

Anyone other than Germany from pot 2 is fine by me.

I know they are hosts and alot of privileges go with that , but having Poland and Ukraine as top seeds is stupid . It means you'd rather be in Pot 2 and have a chance of getting them than be top seeds like Spain / Holland who know their 2nd place team will be pretty tough .

Actually as usual the whole thing is woeful , why are portugal seeded above Denmark when Denmark won their group ? Surely winning the group should have some advantage.

Anyway Spain , Germany , Portugal and france would be interesting . Make it happen Platini you corrupt Blatter love child !!

So Germany ended up in pot two because they wanted Poland and Ukraine in pot one? That was a horrible decision. Personally I'm all for getting rid of the seeds and just chucking everyone into the same pot. If you've qualified you've qualified. They could still have groups though.

These seedings often make little if any sense at all.

In example. For the upcoming WC qualifiers Norway was top seeded alas ending up in what looks to be the worst qualifier group ever in the competition whilst for instance Denmark is drawn against both Italy and the Checz's, all teams who's more often than not qualifying.

When was the last time Norway actually even made it to a Championship? Quizzed to say the least.

Anyways I'm hoping for a Poland, Italy, Greece and Denmark group. Not so much for a Spain, Germany, Portugal, Denmark one.

PS Here's the 'group of not so much death' for the upcoming World Cup in Brasil:

Norway
Slovenia
Switzerland
Albania
Cyprus
Iceland

There's a good chance bottom seeded Iceland will actually end in top two. Behind the Swiss I reckon.
