Just for a bit of fun like, lets say you were at the club and Suarez said hes off.
You get 40m from Barcelona.
The board give you 20m to spend plus all sales.
You sell Andy Carroll, Jay Spearing, Skrtel, Assaidi and Wilson for a further 35m
So youve got 95m to spend.
*for shits and giggles man*

How would you rebuild our squad to compete.
You can sign whoever you want but remember we wont be in Europe so be realistic.

I think first off I would have to make a marquee signing to show that we arent falling apart after Suarez.
Id try to get Higuain for 25 - 30m.
That leaves me with 65m left.
I think we need two CB's with Skrtel and Carra going so id sign De Vrij and Eiderewald (sp) i reckon about 17m the pair.
48m left.
Id but Ince because hes free and a great young prospect.
Id buy Griezmann from Sociedad I reckon 12m
36m left
Id bid 16m for Xaquiri assuming that Bayern will have to sell in summer.
20m left.

Well theres no one else really I want to sign. I guess some midfield steel would be good. Maybe id offer Barca 15m for Mascherano.

I'd get us Mario Gomez for 20 million like.

Next would be Andre Ter-Stegen for 10 million. He can battle it out with Reina.

My two CBs would be one out of Fabian Schär or Aleksandar Dragovic from FC Basel. Each one should be available at around 7 million.

The other one would also be Stefan De Vrij for around 8 million.

I'd also tend to give Nicolai Boilesen a chance. The talent is there but his injury list is quite worrying too. Can it be any worse than Agger though. Anyway, he's still young so he'd get the benefit of the doubt. I'd pay around 1 million for him.

As I mentioned in another thread I'd also get Leon Goretzka from VfL Bochum. The next big thing in Germany and the closest you'll get to payers like Kroos, Ballack or Khedira. He'd cost around 5 million.

Do you think a) he'd come that cheap and b) we'd be able to get him?

It seems as though all the top clubs are already being linked and supposedly have been looking at him for some time.

I don't watch enough football (other than Liverpool) anymore to have a proper go of this but I'd be very tempted by Michu because I'm convinced he's more than a one season wonder and he can play up front on his own or as part of a front 2.

If we signed Ince on a free I'd let Downing go. I don't mind Downing but we would have Steling, Suso, Ince, Coutinho all vying for the same space, and all of them are young and promising.

2 centre backs are a must and I'd also love a Viera style central midfielder.

I mean the kid is good, but we need better.

Winning what though ?

I would say the that team has a short shelf life. If they fall short next season you have a fine (expensive) mess to undo - potentially setting you back another year or two.

I'd worry that this midfield would leave the defence even more exposed than they currently are. I think we'd need to buy one non attacking full back at the very least to stand half a chance of this formation working.

Also the original premise of the thread was that Suarez was leaving.
 
We've had great success so far recruiting a pair of talented young guns (for a great price) with a point to prove after not getting the minutes they feel they should have had at their old clubs. They're playing with confidence and fire, and that encourages me to think that we should try that formula again.

Anyone know of other talented youngsters being held back by veterans? I say we go steal them.

Courtois at Chelsae (on loan to Atletico) is gonna be a great keeper, Id take him given the chance
Micah Richards at City
Thiago Alcantara at Barca

Any of them would be a great pick up
 
I think it says all I need to know about how I feel about football now that I don't really care, or even know who most of these players you're mentioning are. Fuck it.
I'd sell a load of millionaires who don't give a fuck and buy a load of millionaires who say they give a fuck, but don't.
 
Love how the spelling of Alderweireld was closer to eiderdown. Should be fun if we sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
