Or: move to France already able to speak French. Leaves two years later, able to speak French. Moves to German-speaking countries for four years, tries to learn some German. Then has a year's notice of a move to England, and learns no English. Lives in England for a year and learns no English.

Austria maybe isn't the best country to learn German though.

Languages are easier for some than others... hard but neccesary when living around. I thought I was actually quite good at Italian after spending time with my 75 year old neighbour in Italy until I understood he speaks Piemontese (local) and not italian.

Think I remember this correctly, Origi speaks Belgian, Dutch, English and French and said he can get by in German.
When asked what next he said it depends were they send me on loan.

Belgian?

Flemish (Vlaams) also called Flemish Dutch (Vlaams-Nederlands), Belgian Dutch (Belgisch-Nederlands, or Southern Dutch (Zuid-Nederlands), is a Lower Franconian / Dutch dialect. It is spoken in the whole northern region of Belgium as well as French Flanders and the Dutch Zeelandic Flanders by approximately 6.5 million people

So it's Dutch then.
😉

Schweinehund!

Did germans ever use that as an insult, or was that created by British comic makers?

German is infinitely easier to learn than the others , you Cray Cray

I have a degree in French and German, can get by in Italian and Maltese and have bits of other languages, and I never found German easier, though I did prefer it.

I think the English fans are generally ok with foreigners struggling to learn the language.

The Spanish fans/media on the other hand are just down right cunts about it.

A hapless fellow pupil at school once tried to persuade some of us that the Japanese for "Victory" was "bonsai" rather than "banzai". I got the distinct impression that someone else had convinced him of that and then turned him loose to make an idiot of himself with it.

I don't think Banzai means "victory" either, though.

I always thought it was used instead of "CHAAAAARGE!" but what it actually means I'm not sure

It means 万岁 or "Long Live!! (the emperor)". Can be used for a variety of purposes I guess...

Fair enough, thanks both. I imagine it's safe to assume their troops weren't extolling the benefits of flower arranging when they went over the top though. 😀
