Poll Encourage the Karius

Nothing's changed from the last Ming vs Karius poll, for me, except Karius has actually shown some ability in A game. I’d still give him till the end of the season because the alternative is all too well known and Karius can hardly be worse. What the last game does do is put some justification behind his purchase and, in view of the time other keepers have taken to adjust to the Prem, there is still the faintest glimmer of hope that he actually is a keeper.

I think he's utter log, but I'm willing to give him until the end of the season to prove me wrong. I don't think he will, though.

I also think he's hopeless. However we are stuck with him and Ming and there isn't any point complaining about it until the end of the season.

Me too. He was a slap head though.

Well hes got the job til the end of the season unless he fucks up royally but he just doesnt look like a top class keeper in any capacity. Doesnt have the reflexes of a great shot stopper, doesnt dominate the box, doesnt organise and marshall his defence and doesnt have great distribution.

Hes not a total dickhead but I cant see how he will ever be good enough to be our first choice in the long term. Whats his best attribute?

New keeper needed this summer, same as last summer and the summer before that.

I miss Reina..
I’d written off Karius after the first few games when it became apparent that him looking a nervous wreck wasn’t an isolated incident on his debut, but fuck it. I’m a glass half full guy and the fact that he looks intent on making his presence felt, the obvious effort he’s been putting in and the fact he hasn’t had many fuck ups means I’m going to be supporting the kid and hoping, wishing, praying that we only need a reserve keeper come summer to replace Ming.

He gave VVD a bollocking afterwards for that as he gave a huge call for it. Oh well - can't really have a go at him for actually committing to come for a ball - that is what we want more of!

Reina used to wipe out any player that got in his way, including ours. The best keepers always do.

Credit where it's due, he's looked ALOT better of late, though his previous form was dire. He's looked a bit more decisive and his distribution and alertness has been really good.

The main concern is he will revert to type, good keepers exude confidence, he hasn't looked confident until Klopp said he was guaranteed the number 1 spot until the end of the season. If he's going to jitter and crumble under pressure (ie, if he makes a couple of mistakes again), then it's just more of the same problem we've had with Mignolet, James, etc.

We'll know once he makes a mistake, those keepers always folded & stayed shit for ages once they had a mistake, whereas the likes of Reina bounced back.

I think he's being judged against an incredibly low bench mark to the point that even competent displays are getting lauded. That isn't to say he hasn't improved, but I don't feel any more confident about our keeper situation at present and I suspect we will have to invest in the summer. Fingers crossed he can prove that wrong and we can invest in other areas.

I suppose the difference is that Karius was bought to be the number one keeper by the current management

I reckon Klopp has played this very well. He's waited until Virgil is bedded in and then made Karius number 1, to give him the best chance.

Robertson replacing Moreno has also helped stabilise the defence. As will Clyne's return most likely.
