Emre Can U-Turn:

German wants to stay at LFC after witnessing semi-final says journalist

According to journalist Mootaz Chehade, as well as multiple Italian outlets, such as calciomercato, Emre Can has changed his mind about wanting to leaving Liverpool.

The German is impressed with Liverpool’s ‘ambition’ after seeing our triumphant 5-2 Champions League semi-final victory over AS Roma, in which he took no part of due to an ongoing back injury.

Who does he think he is?!

If Liverpool’s ambition under Jurgen Klopp wasn’t already blindingly obvious, then we’re not sure Can has been paying much attention.

The 24-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, and it looked until now that he’d 100% be leaving for pastures new.

But this latest report throws a spanner in the works.

It’s not like he’s Mo Salah or Roberto Firmino. He’s a talented, if inconsistent, midfielder, who has as many good games as average ones.

Still, after taking a deep breath and thinking about the bigger picture, we still want him to stay.

After all, if he extends his contract and wants to leave next summer, we’d get £50m-odd for him in the current market. Or he might fulfil his potential and help us win the Premier League.

He's impressed after watching us play.. What the hell has he been observing in training day in day out for the past few years.
Id be happy of we signed him and kept him but the reason he's sticking around sounds a bit fake

We could do with a CM for the final games or the season. Hope he gets the green light soon.

Happy enough to keep him, wouldn't be gutted to lose him.

Thought he was playing well before the injury and player prices are currently scandalous so this would be good news if true.

Maybe he thought we didn't want to beat Roma. And he's impressed that we had the ambition to beat them. Which he realised we did when we beat them.
That's the most logical thing anyone has said since Mr Spock said "That is logical, Captain"

Maybe he didn't think we were good enough to go all the way in Europe and now does.

Who knows.

I would rather he leaves.

He doesn't play the ball quickly enough and takes too many touches to be a mainstay in our side.

Play him against stoke to rest the key players for the second leg. Who gives a fuck if it injures him further - he doesn't want to stay so can fuck off.

I don’t see what’s the big problem. Should Arsenal fans turn on Ozil because he looked like he’s running down his contract and in the end signed a new one? If Can stays it’s good thing for us and he should be supported just like any Liverpool player.

I think, predictably, Juventus aren't offering him some staggering amount of money, now its getting down to it. No huge offers are coming in, certainly nothing definitely better than this that would actually guarantee anything, which was apparently one of the issues here, and he's second guessing wanting out. He could play somewhere regularly that looks shit, or he could stay, make about as much as he'd make anywhere, and there's every chance we are going someplace.

I don't think he's done anything cuntish. We were dumb about his contract. If indeed he does decide to stay, I'd be happy with him as an option, with another CM coming in in addition to Keita. If we keep actually being useful and looking strong, and chiefly, if we actually win things, there will be a lot of useful mercenaries that actually hang around. You want mercenaries around the camp, for the pillaging.

Erm, no, we weren't. It's a club policy not to offer a release clause, and it's what enabled us (beyond Barca's desperation) to get a ridiculous fee for Coutinho. As for when we offered it, I imagine there's been some sort of offer for the last 18 months/2 years, can't make a player sign though.

I hope he signs and stays, he’s coming into his prime years, we deserve those performances he’ll give.

I see your erm, and I raise you one ermm. Yes, we were.

If he's asking for something we absolutely won't give under any circumstance, then we should have got some value out of him. Now, we'll either overpay on wages, or we'll lose all of his value.

He will be worth 30-50 million in today's market. If we are aiming to challenge next season we need a deeper squad and a stable squad. We are better off with him so I don't see why not.

Let's face it. He will get a contract at a top club regardless even if we told him to fuck off.

If a deal can be worked out Im more than happy for him to stay. He would be worth £40m - £50m if he was under contract. This is a no brainer.

I heard he is currently on 35k a week. Less than TAA. If this was just down to money he should have signed long ago.

He has been open about his situation and played a fair game. No probs with that. If he signs and show he is good enough to start for us that is nice. If not I think we will find other good solutions.

To be fair, if it motivates him to be fit and on the bench for the CL final then it works for me. We’re down to the bare bones. All must be sacrificed at the altar of Big Ears. We know this.

Surprisingly many are struggling to understand this. They are scared to death about is fucking up the whole universe and not qualifying for CL next season. Which if happens gives us 4 trophies to win next season.

However, this season we can only win one trophy. And we must sacrify everything to do so. We are not Arsenal sacrifying everything for top 4.

The performances were his value, I guess, and I imagine the club expected him to sign. The people in charge now (not the yanks, the ones running us day-to-day) know how to manage multi-million pound assets, but there's still player/agent power when they stomp and kick like children. If he leaves on a free (obviously possible) then we'll have had 4 years reasonable service for a nominal fee and meh wages, not the worst result.
