Am i the only one that thinks this lad is a bigger weak link than Lucas?
He's way too short, slow and don't get me started on his positional sense.

As others have pointed out, he has been under more pressure because in Babel and Yossi, we have more wandering inside, less defensive organization on that side, and he is less protected. I haven't found him to be remarkably good, or bad, he is like a foreign Steven Warnock. He's been having a decent enough season, and has been comfortable and agressive going forward, though I would hope that Aurelio will get back to the form he showed last season (before getting injured again) because if he does, Insua will be improved upon. Aurelio isn't miles ahead defensively but his crossing is better, and he offers good delivery from set pieces.

I certainly wouldn't single him out, and I do NOT think he's slow by any means.

The left back - whoever it may be - rarely seems to be where he should be when the opposition start an attack these days (I think Carra was the last to show that discipline), but the lad is doing okay, I feel. He hasn't hit that nice 'scooped' cross he plays so well since he made the first team, but he's been promising going forward. He's one of the smallest players in the league, but he's working hard to make the most of his strengths. He does need to improve his positional sense, though, I quite agree.

yeh Fuckin South Americans, we have never had a decent one we should have stuck to the Scandinavians, much more reliable

I thought he did largely ok against Chelsea defensively, wasn't great going forward (then again neither was GJo), but give him enough time, think he could develop into a very good all-round player.

There's been nothing so far to bring the knives out anyway as far as I'm concerned.

We beg Rafa to give our youngsters a chance and he is doing it here, he has improved from his early appearances. Ive much more faith in him than in our young centre mid. If he had Kuyt in front of him he'd be even better.

Insua definately has something, He could stagnate or continue his improvements, he is not the finished article yet by any means at all.

I dont agree that he is weak, or slow. He is short but there have been many smaller full backs who are legends, it not a issue...

He needs gametime, however I would be tempted to be going with Fabio Aurelio, as he has such a sweet left foot and the danger he brings from dead balls adds another dimension to the team.

Don't, you'll get Wilko giving us his "less liable to homesickness" speech again.

I see more positives than negatives in the lad, though the two glaring holes in his current game are definetly his positional sense (or oft lack thereof) and his poor, poor crossing.

So far though, I'm satisfied with his performances.

Height is not important for a full back.

He's learning his trade and has been alot better than anything the reserves have produced in years.

Give the lad a chance.

I don't think anyone is saying his height is a major problem, but it's not quite accurate to say it is absolutely irrelevant for any position these days. Managers like as much height as possible in their teams these days. A player of Insua's height has a slightly tougher challenge to break into a team and stay there, as does Spearing.

I've never been bowled over by him but he hasn't been performing to the standards he set himself last year, that's for sure.

As already mentioned, his general attacking play and link up has been seriously poor this year

It's very rare to find any dramatic growth after twenty.

After 21/22 the only way is down, unfortunately.

Is he any shorter than Evra or Lahm?

Considering his youth and inexperience, I think he's done really well in the first team . Against the bigger, better teams I would always prefer Aurelio, but Insua's energy and persistence have been useful against the Stokes and Burnleys. Obviously he can and will improve, but generally I think Fark's descpription of Insua as a foreign Stephen Warnock is about right - and I often wish we hadn't sold Warnock. He's a good, young, homegrown second-string LB. If only we had someone like him for the right side...

Roberto Carlos isn't a giant either.

Insua is expected to start for Argentina today against Peru in a must win match.

Good luck, Emiliano.

Benitez hails Insua progress
Reds boss delighted with Argentine full-back
By Chris Burton

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez feels Emiliano Insua has thoroughly deserved his first international call-up.

The Argentine full-back has become a first-team regular at Anfield this season, helping him to catch the eye of Diego Maradona.

A number of impressive performances have seen him selected by his country for the first time and he will be hoping to be involved in crucial World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay.

Insua's rapid progress this term has been welcomed by his domestic boss Benitez, who has eased the 20-year-old into the fold on Merseyside following his arrival from Boca Juniors in January 2007.

He was initially brought in by the Reds on a long-term loan basis, but saw that deal made permanent just eight months into an 18-month agreement.

The potential spotted by Liverpool at that early stage is now being fulfilled, with the youngster seemingly set for a distinguished career at the very top of the game.

"It is very good news for him and for us," said Benitez on Insua's inclusion in the Argentina squad.

"He is a young player who is doing well for us. When you talk about young players, the idea is to try to promote them.

"Emiliano was a very good signing by our scouting department - a young player with potential and quality - and it was very good business because the price was good."
