With many here seem to have lost hope re Babel, I watched Elia a few times recently and was very impressed. He's Dutch, about Babel's age, plays in a similar position and seems to have much more game intelligence. This lad has been brilliant for Hamburg since joining from Twente in the summer for 8.5m Euro.
There's probably not much chance we could get him in January, but I wish we could offer them Babel + some cash and get this lad.

I was hugely impressed with Eljero Elia for FC Twente when I saw them play against Man City. He played on the left wing, looked lightning, good on the ball and went past players like they weren't there. I have only ever seen that one game however. It seems to be his team-mate Arnautovi? that is being linked to big clubs though.

That's what I posted last season. He does look like a very exciting player.

Yep. I had ran a quick search in our forums prior to starting this thread and noticed that you were a fan.
Like I said before, I watched him a few times this season and he looked very very promising.

Is this the lad who came on against Scotland and scored? He looked very good.

That's the lad. You can watch him against Scotland towards the end:

I havent seen Hamburg much. But netherlands use their wingers totally different than Rafa use his wide guys... They will threaten the defense line constantly and await passes in between the full back and cd to chase. Actually Babel can do that job!

I want him here too, but I think he might already be quite pricey. Think we'd do better poaching Hines.

According to todays Bild, we are very interested in this lad.
Apperantly we've had scouts attenting HSVs latest games, and are very keen on signing him in january.

He cost them 9 mill euros, but the Bild claim we want to include Ryan Babel in a deal to get the price lowered a bit..

Looks like journalists at Bild have been looking at our forums then.

I'd be amazed, but pleasantly surprised, if this deal were to materialize.

less wages for us = more money to pay for the fee, were skint enough for me to think thats the idea

Forgot to tell you lads - I started working for Bild last week 😉

Liverpool's owners are preparing to scoop £100m with a new rights issue, and will fund their manager's transfer-based desires, which include the 22-year-old Dutch midfielder Eljero Elia, who only joined Hamburg in August from FC Twente. So desperate are the Reds to agree the deal, they'll do all the paperwork in January but let him stay in Germany until the end of the season. But don't get your hopes up, Liverpool fans: the Anfield legend (well, he played in a good team) Ronnie Whelan reckons that if Rafael Benítez wants him, this Elia's bound to be abysmal – "his judgment in the transfer market has been awful," he parped.

I dont see them releasing any money to Rafa at all.... its not in the plan...

As for buying this lad, he looks OK but how the fuck is he cover for Torres?
