NABIL EL-ZHAR has revealed that he wants to quit Liverpool.

The Morocco winger isn't prepared to hang around and attempt to impress new boss Roy Hodgson.

After signing from St Etienne four years ago, he has failed to make his mark at Anfield and is desperate for regular first-team football.

Even though he is under contract until 2012, El-Zhar has informed the Moroccan media of his desire to move on.

"I want to leave Liverpool," he asserted. "I do not play often enough.

"I'm 23 and I cannot afford to only play a few bits of games.

"There are several European clubs interested and I will not close any doors."

Meanwhile, Fiorentina's bid to sign Emiliano Insua is on hold.

The full-back looked to be on his way to Serie A this week but Hodgson apparently wants to have a closer look at him before deciding whether to cash in.

Ha! Nice title.

Hopefully we can get a couple mill for him. He's an international after all.

Also, 3.5M for Insua is pretty low.

Title slightly adjusted to raise the panic levels.

To be honest I wouldn't let him go he would be an ok back up (awaits Brendans wrath), if we let him go we would have to buy 2 left backs in this window and something tells me we can just about afford 1 never mind 2.

I agree. I wouldn't sell him either.

It just seems like it's going to happen. 5M would be a fairer price I think.

Insua is shite. If we get £5m, I will laugh my tits off.

He's not a world beater, but he's not the worst in the league either. I doubt we would be able to get an improvement with the cash we get from the sale.

El Zhar may go and will not be missed.

As for Insua, queue the "why did we ever sell Warnock?" comments.

Yeah, but - why did we ever sell Warnock?

I don't think I ever got that at the time and I don't think we got much for him, did we?

About 2 mill I think. It was a serious cock-up.

Agger could provide cover though, like Carra does for right back. Emergency only, obv. And then we have the likes of Kelly who can fill in at fullback.

Yup, well £2.5m.. His positional sense was almost as bad as Insua's when he played for us though, but he was always a decent player.

I agree fully. It was unclear how far Warnock was going to progress as a footballer and he certainly was lacking in positional sense at the time, but the small fee we recouped for him was not worth dispensing with a player who could operate as decent cover at left-back and emergency cover on the left-wing if necessary. He's still not a worldbeater but came pretty close to making the World Cup squad, is better than any player in his position on our books now and wasn't about to drop in value had we held onto him for another season at least.

We had Aurelio and Riise at the time who were both far superior players. Warnock was a decent local prospect who always gave his all, however he was never going to progress at Liverpool without being played week in, week out.

We could've gotten a better fee, but then you can say that about a lot of players we've sold over the years.

Did we have Aurelio at the time already? My memory may be faulty but I thought we had Traore and Riise.

Nevermind, just looked it up.

He did make the World Cup squad (and deservedly so once Bridge made his decision) though he didn't get a game.

I don't think he was any worse a defender than JAR either. If anything he was better, but not by much and he certainly didn't pose as much of a threat at the other end of the pitch.

Does anyone think he and other fringe players may flourish under the new Manager?

Hodgson may be less demanding and more encouraging toward them and get them to express themselves more.

El Zhar, Insua, Leiva, Kelly, Ayala etc etc

Could do, though I don't rate El Zhar much at all, aside from a late injection of pace in games, he doesn't look like he has much in his locker. I like Kelly though, and Ayala, though isn't he being linked with a loan move to Spain?

If he does that will be the last we see of him then

regards

I think some of thye young players will likely benefit from game time nder Roy and an arm around their shoulder. Don`t think El Zhar will end up impressing too much however.
