He was amazing and unplayable at his best. Torres was among the best players in the world at the time and was a superb signing. I'm no longer bitter about him leaving. I think he regretted it and we certainly got the best deal possible. He never went for a transfer fee after we sold him for £50m and he was clearly done by the time we let him go. Whether we knew that or not is debatable. Part of me suspects we were happy to sell him because we knew he was finished and that's why Torres was bitter. Not because we sold him at his request but that we actively rejected his transfer request to appease supporters. The fact Dalglish pissed all that money on Andy Carroll is sickening.

A sensational striker who got me up out of my chair with excitement.

I'll always remember that first goal against Chelsea where he burnt the defender and rolled it past Cech into the far corner.

I jumped around thinking 'fuck me we have a real star on our hands here'

For a foreign player he also seemed to get us as a club and the fans (the 5 finger salute at OT was amazing)

It made his decision to join Chelsea all the more heartbreaking and I haven't give a toss about any player since.

Suarez was a better player but Torres gave me more happiness.

Thanks for the memories ya prick.

We had Torres up front, Gerrard behind, Mascherano sweeping up the midfield and Carragher in defence, backed up by Reina in goal.

We were so close

The first goal against Chelsea when he ghosted past Tal Ben Haim was his best goal.

He score heaps more aesthetically pleasing, more difficult, more technically better goals than that one for sure. But by the time he was scoring them the shock and awe factor had almost normalised, he was that good. That first goal came from nowhere and instantly blew me away. Standing start and he fucking breezed past Ben Haim, and left Cech waving at his family in the crowd. I can still my remember the whole 'fuck-me-what-was-that' feeling that came with it.

You just knew then we'd gotten ourselves an absolute superstar.
