E petition to remove knighthood from Irvine Patnick

Patnick was one of the sources for The Lying Rag newspaper's notorious coverage of the Hillsborough disaster in April 1989. In September 2012, the publication of the report by the independent panel investigating the disaster confirmed that "the source for these despicable untruths was a Sheffield news agency reporting conversations with South Yorkshire Policeand Irvine Patnick, the then MP for Sheffield Hallam."[7] Earlier, Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie had said of his coverage: "It was a fundamental mistake. The mistake was I believed what an MP said."[8] The Daily Express also carried the story, under the headline "Police Accuse Drunken Fans" and giving Patnick's views, saying he had told Margaret Thatcher, whilst escorting her on a tour of the grounds after the tragedy, of the "mayhem caused by drunks" and that policemen had told him that they were "hampered, harassed, punched and kicked".[9]
Following the disclosure of Patnick's role in creating what Prime Minister David Cameron called an "unjust and untrue narrative that sought to blame the fans" Labour MP John Mann wrote to Cameron asking that Patnick be stripped of hisknighthood for his "shameful and disgusting behaviour."[7][10]
In a statement issued through the Conservative Party on 13 September 2012, Patnick accepted "responsibility for passing such information on without asking further questions. So, many years after this tragic event, I am deeply and sincerely sorry for the part I played in adding to the pain and suffering of the victims' families."[11]

I'd be looking to transpose it to another site (Downing Street E-petitions pref), if for no other reason than having to register will deter too many people.

I don't think this is pertinent, as far as I can make out the only people that can strip anyone of a peerage are the independent forfeiture committee, as some MPs have already put the ball in motion it is probably pointless.
Otherwise successive governments could be stripping knighthoods bestowed by the previous one left right and centre.
On the other hand it would show what people think of Patnick, but we need to be careful, should this fantastic system for raising issues, that concern the man on the street be used for that, and the world knows now what his role has been?

regards

This petition is to support the ball that is in motion from Joe Anderson though I think Vlad.

This is a Liverpool City Council initiative - not sure if you have to be a UK resident or not - can't see anything to say so

Well yes, if it ever did get debated in parliament or even asked to the Prime Minister as a question at PMQs (which could of course happen any week, petition or no petition) then the answer will just be 'that is a decision of the independent committee who are looking into it'.

From what I have read, this person sounds quite unpleasant generally, and clearly played a part in the cover up, but would it not be best to concentrate efforts on bringing those who have actually broken the law to justice, rather than stripping some nasty old cunt of a knighthood that, in his case, is pretty meaningless now anyway?

I have just went ahead and done it anyhow.
Just shy of two thousand signatures already.
@Richey. Patnick seems to have been to the forefront of spreading the lies about Hillsborough.
He deserves to suffer for his actions and I suspect that stripping him of his title will hurt because he sounds exactly like that type of cunt. There are many more like him that deserved to be hounded for their actions for the rest of their days.

If youre still profiting from the hurt youve caused, youre fair game. Even if youre not, youre fair game.

Any honours youve received are undeserved. Any pensions being paid are undeserved.

One day there will be a knock on the door, its coming, truth will consume.

There's a petition for the Bastard Bettison as well, which doesnt seem to be getting the same attention.

This is the cunt who even yesterday was still putting blame on fans, and denying he had anything to apologise for.
