Looks like we really are playing hardball regards selling players this season.

Good stuff.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If newspaper reports are accurate, Liverpool will release Andrea Dossena to Napoli, but only if they recoup their £7m investment.

The Anfield side signed the former Udinese full-back 12 months ago and he has struggled to feature consistently.

Dossena’s agent has publicly confirmed in the last few days that his client “wants to join Napoli†and is waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement.

It is now claimed that Rafa Benitez is willing to let the Italian international go, but only on the condition that he recoups the entirety of his £7m investment.

This is a blow for the Partenopei, who had hoped to capture the defender for around half that figure.

Napoli have already spent big on the transfer market and may baulk at another huge expenditure.

Haha, if we get our money back on him it'll be our best sale in recent years.

Some agents seem to be getting increasingly tiresome. Mascher's can't stop talking, and Dossena's keeps saying one thing then issues lame protestations of being 'misquoted'.

AC Milan are interested aswell, so that should bulk up the price. I'm guessing we'll do business at 6 mill.

If we could negotiate a price per kilo we could end up doing very well out of the deal.

ha

It's good to play hardball when we need to ie Mascher/Xabi but not really with Dossena.

Because Xabi and Macher are likely to collect a good fee next year and the year after, Dossena is unlikely to do so.

Course we shouldnt try to get a high fee, we should just say "You know what, he's fat, he's shite, & we want rid. How's 200k sound?. Nice one, we'll pay for his flights too"

Or, we could try to get as much as possible.

Yup well done guys that exactly what I said.
If Rafa wishes to keep him long term then he should push up the price, if he intends to sell because he isnt good enough then no need to scare off prospective buyers and be left with a player we wont get anything for.

I'm clearly not saying give him away, just not to ask for ott

Asking for the same price we paid is not going over the top.

There's a fine balance between playing hard-ball and scaring teams off

And its fair to say his value must have deteriorated since joining us. Getting £5M would be a great bit of business.

How many games did he start last season?

It's not like we're going to miss him is it. Sell him for 4 or 5 million and put it towards a centre half who can also play left back. Distin would be ideal but I don't think he wants to come, plus he's an arrogant twat.

According to his agent Napoli are offering £4.3M + bonuses

SELL!

The agent for Liverpool full-back Andrea Dossena claims his client is keen to leave for Napoli and that the clubs are in negotiations over a deal.

Dossena only arrived at Anfield last season from Udinese but with the arrival of Glen Johnson this summer his chances are likely to be even more limited.

"We want to close the deal, we will reach an agreement," his agent Federico Pastorello said.

"Napoli's offer is £4.3m plus bonuses. It's a deal the two clubs are sorting out, we're waiting for news. Napoli know how much Andrea earns, a significant sum, but less than two million.

"Our intention is to reach an agreement. We will not even have a problem with giving up image rights. The player is currently in Singapore and he is also awaiting news.

"Although he loves being at a club like Liverpool, he would welcome the opportunity to join Napoli with enthusiasm."

well of couse we'll take 5m ish but you'd hardly start haggling at that would you?

If we wanted 7m we'd ask for 9 or 10m.

It is good that we are sticking to our guns a bit. Previously we have always made it very very clear that a player was unwanted which gave us no bargaining power at all. I feared the same would happen with Dossena when he wasn't given a squad number!

Its always a little puzzling when decent teams are interested in our rejects (remember that time when Arsenal signed Jimmy Carter off us?) but I guess that Dossena is still reasonably highly regarded in Italy

Maybe Toby Jugs are popular in Naples?

Because Maxcher and Xabi are almost impossible to replace even if we want to spend heavy on replacements... Whereas Dossena is 3rd choice allready before Johnson came to the club!

While Pastorello believes an agreement can be reached, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will accept an offer of half the 10million euros (£8.6m) they paid to Udinese for the 27-year-old in July 2008.

huh?

I wish they'd use old transfer rates when talking about old transfers, typical journalistic shit again.

Doesn't mean we should give him away. It's quite possible that he could blossom again if he goes back to what he knows best. The Saint is right IMO - let's try and squeeze all we can out of this.
