Nothing of any note, we bought in him on the back of a great World Cup, cf Diouf and Diao. I always thought he was too short and slight to be a good centre half, he was ok as part of a back three/five, but terrible in a back four.
Now , he, really was as thick as two short planks
Looks quick, strong and has some skill about him. That spin, turn thing, plus the touchline run was Suarezy enough for me to get behind this.
His finishing looks poor. He seems to scuff the ball a lot and not strike the ball cleanly, even from a standing ball.

That was indeed the reason. Babb was one of a number of signings by Uncle Roy which could have made sense, but which he seriously misused. Others included Jason McAteer (excellent midfielder whom Roy insisted on trying to turn into a fullback/wing back), Oyvind Leonhardsen (excellent CM for the Wombles, caused us plenty of trouble playing for them, so of course Roy shunts him out wide) and Paddy Berger (starts out tearing it up for us in left midfield, so Roy swaps him to the right).
Ah.. But you forgot the 4x English Premium. Have you not learnt from the Sterling/Sinclair fiascos.
Solanke is getting a bit of stick from some quarters for his £50k wage demand at Chelsea. Thinking about it it's quite reasonable he's been stockpiled and has to get past world class players to get a game - he could go to another club like us and within a couple of years be on £70k - £80k

That was the figure which had been mentioned ages ago as what he had purportedly demanded from Chelsea. *Cue Outraged Tabloid Headline Generator*

This may be a case were incentive based contracts prove to be attractive to someone who is young and extremely ambitious. He may not earn 50,000 as a base wage but if he plays well, gets in the first team and scores goals then it may be 'bumped' up to something around that figure. In such a case he deserves the extra cash.

Anyone who brands Leonhardsen an excellent CM should wash their mouth! Not only did I have to cope with the dire bastard branded "best without the ball (!!)" year after year for Norway... All in a sudden he comes to Liverpool and takes Paddy Bergers place. Still gutted about that!!
I'm not convinced Jason McAteer was that great either.
Agree. Not great but he could fit in to our team at right side. But remember he had to fill in in the deep role of midfield normally held by Barnes, and he just tried to copy him by playing short smart passes.... well McAteer is not known to be smart!!
