Dolberg's Destination

I havent watched any of his games though the youtube compilations which KHL posted look impressive.

If he is good enough, then buying him now wouldn't be a bad deal. We have the Keita and VVD monies. I highly doubt both transfers are going to happen. We will need a Sturridge replacement at some point.

I think he has shown that he can handle the Dutch league. We are not going to learn anything more on his ability to handle a better league, if he continues there.

If he moves to a better league or to Monaco and proves himself there, then he goes beyond our price range anyways.

Another poor display today. 49 M pounds for him is mental. Talented yes but need to show more and over time.
Didn't catch the game myself, but it's quite obvious he's been struggling to find his feet at the start of the new season.

This could be down to several factors mind you, one being the ongoing uncertainty about his future. He's 19 and it is bound to affect him at some stage even if he's a level-headed grounded young lad (which he is). It could also be down to the fact that Ajax have offloaded half a team almost compared to last season and more or less all key-players.

I read a comment from their current manager on Dolberg, saying that people should calm down and look at the games played so far (that was last week) and the fact he had only had like 3 shots on goal in 4 games due to the teams overall troubles and the lack of delivery overall.

Either way, he'll get back to his scoring ways and hopefully we have changed our tactics in the market for good and actually made sure that our scouting are based on more than a streak of games whether they be awesome of troublesome due to players form - or lack of it.

I watched almost all of his games last season, or parts of them at least, and I am as certain about his terrific qualities as I was with Eriksen back then. It's only a matter of time before he's at the peak of his game again and as has already been said, if his next move is not to us, then the ship has sailed for good. One or two good seasons say in Monaco, and he'll most likely be out of reach.

So if nothing else we should make a decision.

What's the average age of the Ajax starting XI?

Had a quick look and saw that the oldest player is 28, 2nd oldest 25. The goalie is 21, central defender de Ligt is 18, central midfielder van de Beek is 20 while Dolberg himself is 19. I'm no expert in judging/scouting players but there's so much factors involved and things to look at. Style of play of the team, tactics involved, extensive monitoring of individual performances in matches + whole teams' performances etc. So to be playing in such a young team makes it even more difficult to assess clearly from watching just a couple of matches.

Then there's the development of the player - ex Bolton and Sunderland defender Marcos Alonso just to name one example.

Anyway, I think it's in his best interest to stay and develop for at least another season or two. Time is on his side, Ajax have made a fortune from sales this summer and he's likely to play 2nd fiddle where ever he goes this transfer window (including Monaco, where Falcao has scored 5 in 3 league matches).

Ajax where much improved last night, and they did have a lot of ball around the RBK Box. So if anything it was the finishing that let them down last night.

And even if it is dwn to several factors (just pulling Your leg on the Bendtner comparison of course), £49 M is 25% more than we paid for Salah. He is clearly not mature enough to be a leader, and paying that number for someone that will definately get you some goals in the right circumstances is mental what ever way you twist or turn that number.

Maybe a move to Dortmund for the lad? They've got cash burning a hole in their pocket, old manager is now the coach there

The quoted numbers are around £40M but I still get your drift, however the most sought after youngsters will always be expensive acquaintances..

We just have to make up our mind (which we probably already have) and decide whether it's a road we want to go.. there's no way we're going to pay a premium like that without playing him rather regularly. At least 20 games first season otherwise it would not make sense for any of the parties. I obv believe he'd be ready for that, but it's a lot to ask ofc.

Look, I am aware that this won't happen and that's probably that, as it's very likely, unless he stays at Ajax, that the Dolberg-ship has sailed for us.. but then again, if he keeps on not scoring, then bullet dodged eh..
