the left midfield slot is there for the taking. he has four months to prove himself otherwise with his wages he'll definately be shipped out in the summer along with jove and poulsen.
He has the talent - he always has had IMO. Now he has to show he can fit into an overall plan, which maybe has been his Achilles heel.

Maybe it was evident in training.
I think Kenny is being fair. Cole needs to work on his confidence and adapting into our style of play. Its quite clear that the ability is there but its not working out on the pitch. The gaffer stated in interviews that he's working on making some of the players better. Maybe Cole is one of them.

Cole on the right or Left would be better than Maxi/Kuyt..
I still think that an in-form Joe Cole is an excellent footballer, and am surprised he hasn't got more opportunities, particularly given the poor form of some of his colleagues. I can only assume it's an attitude thing? On paper, he'd be in my starting line-up.

Based on what i've seen him do in the last decade vs the other two..
When we're playing a narrow 4-2-3-1 Cole is a great option in any of the three positions.. He did ok vs Arsenal and has been largely anonymous since.. If Kenny can fix Johnson he can certainly fix Cole!

Long term I would be very surprised if he fits in with what the owners/Comolli seem to want - he's getting on a bit, has frequent injuries and probably gets paid an absolute fortune.

That's the thing, the few times he's come on as sub or started on the right/left he's shown Kuyt's work-rate plus more. He's not shown anywhere near what I'd hope he's capable of but compared to the eye-bleedingly poor Kuyt, he's an instant upgrade.
Cole is nowhere near pacy either, but he makes Kuyt look, well, as slow as Kuyt.
