Diving

It's a shite argument used by cheats. Blaming the ref for 'forcing' you to cheat. Oh please.

Is it cheating if it really is a foul? I think Vlad sums it up perfectly here:

This is the whole thing in a nutshell, the word exaggeration should be used in most cases instead of simulation, and that is not cheating. Refs will not give things in the box they would give without a seconds thought outside it.
Regards

There is a difference between simulation, which is cheating, and exaggeration, which is not.

Some players will dive just because they're fucking dirty little cheats. Some players - such as our very own captain - will go down in an exaggerated fashion, sometimes under minimal contact, to ensure that the ref's mind is made up.

We've done this time and time again on here and on KT. Some people lambast it for not being within the spirit of the game and being cheating, some people defend it because they say they've seen similar situations in the past where just enough contact was made to throw the player off and stop them from scoring, but no foul was given.

Obviously cheating is something that nobody (or no right-thinking person) would condone, but to view the situation as being black or white is too simplistic

It needs to be back or white in order for referees to judge it in a game (simplistic if you want).

But what I'm really talking abuot is players exaggerating the amount of contact and throwing themselves to the ground when they could have easily have stayed on their feet. Just because there’s contact doesn’t mean the players ‘has the right to go down’. If the player is able to stay on their feet then they should. If there is enough contact to take them down then fine. But don’t put on the theatricals because that is cheating every day of the week.

Personally I’d like to see a ref brave enough to give a penalty and a yellow card for exaggerating. The media would crucify them though.

Okay, but what about there being enough contact to throw them off their stride, or a little tug of the shirt that is just enough to make them off balance when they're about to shoot? Not enough to actually bring them down, but enough to put them off.

If they don't go down, they don't get the decision and they don't score a goal. How is that dealt with retrospectively?

I think you're missing one of the main threads of his argument, which is that due to the poor standard of refereeing, it has become necessary for players to make a meal of things in order to ensure they get the decision - is it a foul? Yes. Is it a dive? Yes. Would the foul have been given had the player not made the most of it? No. Is it cheating? No.

He even points out Suarez getting booked for diving when it was a foul.

As much as I hate the dick, I think he's got a point and makes it reasonably well, it's not as simplistic as people are making out, there are nuances

The referees may or may not be shit, but they have an almost impossible task and are given no assistance. The players are now compensating by trying to give them that assistance, which also makes the most obvious diving effective.

What does he use to get to the "truth" of the matter to render an objective judgment.

Video replay.

What does he conclude? It's not an easy fix.

He's an imbecile.

It's one thing going down easy to make sure you get a penalty when you've definitely been fouled. But that's not what Young did. He purposely veered off track, making sure he found an opponent's foot to trip across. Sorry, Gary, you hateful shitebag, but that's fucking cheating.

Well yeah, when you put it like that

Henning Berg was in Norwegian TV studio in the weekend claiming it was a clear penalty, though a dramatic dive. The other experts just didn't even bother to discus it, and he came out crawling in the papers today admitting (after watching it a 100 times) that it should never been given.... For those who don't remember Henning Berg, this clip is always worth watching. One of my all time Favorite Player (The one in black 😉)

Youtube is blocked at work for me, so I can't see what the clip is, but I bet it's the one of Redondo making Berg look like a tit. Isn't it?
