If we're buying an Uruguayan defender I wish it was Lugano. He doesn't look very fast but he's smart, ruthless, good in the air and a leader.

We would also start scoring from corners.

Not if Gerrard's taking them

I think it's more likely that agents are using the copa america to try to create stories about their clients. I'd never heard of (or at least could remember) Diego Godin until yesterday.

Is Uruguay are new favourite market after Rafa's preference to Spanish players or something?

Dalglish's famous Uruguayan heritage must be the reason!

The headline-grabbing news in ABola is that Liverpool are chasing Porto’s Alvaro Pereira. The Reds are willing to pay the 20 million termination clause to sign the Uruguayan left-back.

Liverpool are prepared to pay £17.5m to bring Uruguay defender Alvaro Pereira to Anfield as the solution to their left-back problem.

Manager Kenny Dalglish is keen to recruit a left-back ahead of the new season following severe shortages in that department throughout the last campaign.

His first choice target Gael Clichy opted for a move to Manchester Ctiy and the Merseysiders have since been linked with a host of top players to fill the position including Lyon's Aly Cissokho, Newcastle's Jose Enrique and Hamburg's Marcell Jansen.

However, according to reports in Portuguese newspaper ABola, Liverpool are 'willing to pay' Porto the €20m (£17.5m) buy-out clause in Pereira's contract to ensure the move happens.

The 25-year-old is regarded as one of the finest wing-backs in football and was instrumental in Porto's treble success last season.

He has been one of the star's of Uruguay's Copa America charge this summer, scoring twice and helping his country to the final.

I hope this is true, and I love our aggression in the transfer market and how it gets the lily livered supporters all het up about us 'overpaying' on transfer fees.

Can we just sign a left back please. Anyone.[/quote]

You'll soon regret that "Anyone" comment when we sign Wayne Bridge for 15m...
