Wasn't he hot property in La Liga - how come he ended up at Sporting Lisbon?

Cracking finish just now and has been ace all night - Fucking Insua has been a threat going forward all night too!

Anyway yeah - I wouldn't mind a punt on Capel or a fair few of the players on the pitch for Lisbon and Bilbao tonight.

He was never that great to begin with. If I remember correctly he seemed to have decent pace, a decent cross and not a whole lot else.

A.Madrid raised a few eyebrows when they paid 40M for Falcao but after a slow start he's pretty much justified his transfer fee. Scores for absolute fun.

Capel's pretty average but I'd much rather have signed him for £3m than Downing for £20m if we desperately needed a mediocre winger.

I doubt if we still own 50% but we may have put a sell on clause in his transfer.

i must admit i was a little confused watching insua lastnight ....i remember him as short and stocky , lastnight he looked tall and strong !! . He was also bombing forward as often as he could . He made a slight mistake for their 1st goal , deflecting it on , but overall he looked decent . Fair play to him , seems to have taken some decent steps forward there .

Insua's 5 goals and 7 assists in 39 appearances this season for Sporting Lisbon looks like a pretty decent return too.

Not always.... He had a promising half season when he firat started playing under Rafa.

Due to his age and inexperience, he was not cut out to play in the EPL day in and day out.... But we had him play like that for a full season and destroyed his confidence.

he used annoy the fuck out of me because he refused to overlap the wide midfielder so they double teamed the midfielder and moves broke down. I was over the moon when we shipped him. now it seems he is overlapping for fun, maybe if you'd done that when you were here we wouldn't have got rid.

Rubbish.... He was poor here because he was a liability defensively. His primary job.... We didnt ship him out because he didnt overlap..... You are mental...

we shipped him out because he was poor, I'm pretty much pointing out what I mostly hated about him.

He had far too much responsibility put on him in a season where we're having a crisis. He looked like a boss prospect apart from that and had a really good season when he was interchanging with Aurelio.

I really liked Insua, and I'm delighted he's showing the talent that was always clearly there.

fair play to him for reinventing himself at SL but when he was here he looked awful.
No, we just played a 19 year old at first choice and it ruined his confidence. Still thinking he was a capable player

I remember watching him in the reserves and thinking he had pace and then seeing him in the first team and he looked like he was running through tar.

Re: Insua's departure

Here's what Tony Barrett had to say about him:

"@TonyBarretTimes: Emiliano Insua once told me he wanted to stay at Liverpool but Purslow wanted him out. Even Roy Hodgson wanted to keep him. True story."

And...

"@TonyBarretTimes: #LFC sold Insua for £500k, re-signed Aurelio for 2 years & bought Konchesky for £4.5m plus two make weights. Top business."

I find it hard to be too upset when players who have been poor here move and improve elsewhere because we'll never know if they would have continued to be shit here and we'd be kicking ourselves we didn't move them on when we had the chance.

3rd time's the charm 😉

This. I remember a few occasions where he did managed to get past and play decent balls in it was his defensive skill/lack of positioning/height/sense/speed which cost him.

Unlike many I wasnt massively keen to offload him tbh, i thought he might be a player waiting to happen so to speak...he really was only a kid with us but he is probably better suited to the league there so.... good luck to him.

i never fully bought into the purslow 'snake' thing at the time, i felt he had the club's best interest at heart and did help get the club sold which cost him his job (although i wonder if he thought he might stay on after) . Anyway one thing's for sure , he really did seem to be taking too much control over the team once rafa was gone and obviously Roy the gimp let him . I remember a few weird roy comments about decisions already been made on players being sold etc and it was obvious it wasn't his choice or that he had a say .

Mirror claims we want to seal a cut-price £4m deal for him.

LIVERPOOL want to complete a cut-price £4million deal for Sporting Lisbon’s Spanish winger Diego Capel, writes John Cross.

Crisis club Sporting are having to auction off their biggest stars and top earners this summer and 25-year-old Spanish international is up for grabs.

Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho said: “The club needs changes in every aspect and we will work to a different style. The sales are necessary and obligatory.”

Both him and Rui Patricio were left out of their trip to Brazil for a close season friendly match.
