1. suarez is taken down by the last man

2. carroll scores after using his strength

how did you see those calls.
I may as well go first

1. correct
the rules state the attacker has to be heading TOWARDS goals and suarez moving away from goal when he is taken out

2. wrong
carroll uses his strength, that was ridiculously harsh and you can bet the ref would have allowed it if it were s'land

regarding the carroll one, we got some pretty tame free kicks, so whilst i think it was the wrong decision, it was at least consistent with the rest of his game

Carroll is gonna have the same problems as crouch. Anytime he uses his height he's gonna be penalised

As far as I'm aware the law states if I goal scoring opportunity is denied, Suarez very much so had a goal scoring opportunity.

Wow, writing forum messages on your phone really doesn't work.

As far as i'm aware the law states if a goal scoring opportunity is denied then it's a red card. No what you're saying makes sense, because if you're on the edge of the area coming away from the goalie, you're not in a goal scoring position, however if like Suarez was, you are going around the goalkeeper, it's very much a goal scoring opportunity, and a red card.

As for Carroll's one, is was 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, it was a generous award of the free kick thats for sure.

So, no-one reckons Caroll pushed Jar-Jar Jr. ?

Because I do.

Richards should have gone for pushing Luis.

If by that you mean "put his hands on an opponent to help him jump, because he can't fucking jump" you are correct.

11. correct

This rule exists only in your head...and the referee's

The ref got both calls wrong and his discretion failed him. He can hide behind a technicality all he wants by saying that Suarez was moving away from the goals. However, Suarez was moving towards the goal and only moved across the keeper when he came out to defend. Richardson was the last player and denied Suarez a goalscoring opportunity by bringing him down. He should have been red carded. Carroll's effort was a goal but wrongly chalked off.

It was a clear push I thought. I don't like the rule of red card AND a penalty sometimes, but by the letter of the law he had to go. We didn't not win because of these decisions though, it was down to an absolutely pathetic second half.

i think the carroll one was harsh, there really wasn't much contact.

the argument that suarez was heading away from goal is fucking ludicrous. it was an absolutely blatant red card, although i agree with Halmeister that it's a shitty rule.

Suarez was going away from the goal at the time. Right decision.

Sending-off offences

A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the following seven offences:

• denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick

http://www.thefa.com/thefa/rulesandregulations/lawsofthegame

Ferdinand was in the air though so he had no balance. The slightest touch when you're jumping can make a big difference. Carroll knew what he was doing.

Ha how would a substituted player do that? Run onto the pitch and snap somebody?

that is an absolutely pathetic argument, neil. pathetic. he had to 'move away from goal' in order to round the keeper. honestly, i don't know why i'm dignifying this bollocks with a reply.

Okay, let me rephase it, I can see 'why' the ref didn't send him.

He got the red card wrong, and the Carrol one right IMO.

As for 'heading away from goal' he was taking it round the keeper. Thats totally different to heading 'awway' from goal

Carrol did push Ferdinand enough to make him miss the ball. Carool knew it and didnt really protest

Kenny pretty much said the same thing in the post match interview. To go around the keeper you have to go away from goal in one way or another at some point.

looked like such a tame challenge from big andy c which led to his dissalowed goal but he didnt really react to the refs decision when he blew for a foul, just seemed to accept it

1. He gives the penalty and it should have been a red card. He was wrong and the rules are very clear here.

2. Carroll fouled him. He didn't use his strength, he nudged while he was in the air. That was a foul.

Suarez was still in the process of heading towards goal when he was fouled... just because he was moving parallel to move around the keeper doesn't mean he stopped his run towards goal... Richardson should have been sent off.

The foul on Carroll was soft but the referee was always going to whistle it... the frustrating part is that if the roles had been reversed and Ferdinand had done the same to Carroll, there's no way he would have pointed to the spot.

So can I, it's cos Phil Dowd is a narcissistic tit who hasn't got a clue for the most part.

We came out of the game with less decisions going against than for, that makes it a decent game under him.

The worst thing is, if it had happened later in the game Im 100% sure Dowd would have sent him off.
5 mins into the new season and he bottled it.

Didnt Saurez block the attempted clearance with his hands first?

Regardless i cant be arsed arguing about penny ante shit like should he have been sent off yadda yadda. We should have beaten fucking Sunderland AT HOME regardless. I dont wanna resort to moaning about decisions when our house isnt in order. Im not Arsene Wenger.
