DERBY LATEST: TORRES FITNESS UPDATE
Jimmy Rice 27 November 2009
Fernando Torres will face a late fitness test ahead of Sunday's 212th Merseyside derby.
The striker has not featured since our trip to Lyon on November 4 following a groin problem which originated on international duty.

Having gone through two to three weeks of recuperation, Torres is nearing fitness.

"We will check him tomorrow. He's training well, he's been with the physios and we'll check after the training session," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv.

Elsewhere, Benitez has just two other injury doubts for the trip to Goodison.

He said: "Ryan Babel will not be available and Martin Kelly is still training with the physios.

"Albert Riera has been training so we'll have to decide. I don't see any other problems. Everyone is training."

A mostly injury free squad and a win against Everton... that could be the beginning of the end of our dire form.

Here's hoping we fucking batter them 3-0 and everyone comes out unscathed.

Some might say "Everyone, except Lucas.."

No excuses. Start Aquaman and replace him when he gets tired.

hit, nail, head

It is worrying that Aquilani is not getting played because there really is no excuse for it unless he is still carrying an injury which isn't fully healed. Rafa seems to want to ease him in when we are playing well to protect him from struggling, which is very understandable, but the truth is the team is playing so bad that even if he sucked at first it wouldn't make us any more depressed, we really are at rock bottom.

If its not an injury problem i think Rafa should play him, even in the Derby, ESPECIALLY in the Derby.... i doubt he will but.... if i was manager i would. I love Rafa and i trust him but he does owe us a lift, we've had a fucking horrible season so far and beating the blue shite whilst not looking fucking cack would really cheer us all up.

We need a lift and even though Lucas has been doing his best he is obviously a third choice player and we badly need to be reminded that we have more quality than he offers. If aquilani is being kept on the bench to make him hungry as hell then maybe thats OK, having him hit the ground running would be a much needed boost for all of us.... but if hes out of the team to protect Lucas's ego then i aint so happy.

The other possibilit of course ... Aquilani is shit and we've gone and bought a lemon.

Agree with that but can't see it happening, given the minutes he has accumulated by far and that its a derby match.

Dare I say, if we have Torres playing tml, 3 points will be guaranteed.

That sounded awfully Glock-esque.

I heard he had been copying him for years.

Aquilani might get a minute this match!

Hopeful.

Do we think Torres is being rushed back too soon?

I don't know if I think that, but I certainly *fear* it. Same with Gerrard, Yossi and Riera.

And the complete opposite with Aquilani.
