YOUNG Australian goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis says he is totally focused on winning a spot in the Olyroos squad for London 2012 despite a mutual agreement which has seen him walk away from English giant Liverpool with a year left on his contract.
Former Sydney FC trainee Bouzanis, 20, is hoping to find a club that will give him the chance to play first-team football after spending the past 3 1/2 years at Liverpool sitting on the outside looking in.
During his stint at the famous club, Bouzanis managed a number of games for the reserves and academy sides, helping the Reds' under-18s reach the FA Youth Cup final in the 2008-09 season.
Bouzanis, who has represented the Australian youth teams, admitted the decision to leave Liverpool was a difficult one. "Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it was obviously a tough decision to make," Bouzanis said.
"However, at the current stage of my career, I'm really focused on being included in the Olyroos squad for the 2012 Olympics and throughout the qualification process.
"My ultimate ambition is to become the first-choice goalkeeper for the Olyroos and, given the tough competition for the spot, I know that I need to start playing first-team football to help my cause."
