Sunderland striker Darren Bent has handed in a transfer request after Aston Villa made an £18million move for the England international.
Bent has been a regular scorer for the Black Cats since joining from Tottenham 18 months ago, but he has now asked to quit the North East club.
Villa have launched a big-money bid for the 26-year-old as manager Gerard Houllier tries to assemble a squad capable of staying in the Premier League.

I think that although thats a top fee to pay its very good for Villa. Hes young-ish and a proven premier league goalscorer who has bagged goals at every club hes been at.
Id rather we paid 18m for him than say 27m for Dzeko (yes i know hes sold already).
If we pay 20m for Suarez who do you guys think will score more goals?
I wish we'd signed bent when Spurs were shipping him out.

Would he have gone for it, when the whole essence of his beef with 'Arry was that he wasn't getting games? Torres hadn't spent so much time out of commission at that stage, and even if he had we'd still not have been in a position to give Bent guarantees about playing.
