Daniel Agger at DM?

Following Oncey's suggested formation in the other thread I felt this warranted its own discussion.

He'd shore up the back 4 and is more than capable of pushing forward and passing, and we'd finally have a midfielder who actually offers a 'goal threat'..

Reina

Kelly Skrtel Carra Aurelio

Agger

GlenJo Stevie Merieles Cole

Torres

Assuming zero signings are made etc blah blah disclaimer..

I don't know if he has the positional sense and drive that's needed to play dm, but maybe i'm just being harsh and comparing him to the master that is masher. But yeah, given the alternatives we have it's probably worth a shot

No thanks. He can't tackle. That said, he'd be better than anything else we have, despite not being suited to playing there, and never having played there before.

In a nutshell.

Agger doesn't offer a goal threat. He has very little idea of where the ball is going to go after it's bounced off his head, and the 30 yard screamers tend to come about once every three years. And he's not that good at passing. He's not even that good at tackling. Not one of Oncy's better suggestions.

At Brondby I believe he did and when we had all of those injuries the other year (when we had Aurelio in CM) Rafa said Agger had experience and knew how to perform in a DM role..

I don't think he ever played there at Brondby mate, and I don't think it's the way forward to start move players out of position more than is already the case.

Mate time to face up the fact that the Danish contingent at LFC (along with others) are not cutting it. Good tackle by Agger for their first goal eh? He should have clattered through him like a knife through butter. Terry would have done, Shawcross would have done, Toure would have done. He's made of glass and he's now frightened to tackle. Time's up Danny boy.

As for Poulsen? If he starts again then I'll curl one off on his front porch.

We could try and field a team with EVERY SINGLE PLAYER out of position.

That leaves us the problem of Lucarse, whose best position would appear to be one that doesn't involve football, so he canb do his usual job of 'ineffectual running around'

Alternatively we could just buy another midfielder who has experience of playing there and is good at it.

I didn't realise that it was a requirement for a defensive midfielder to carry a goal threat either

You seriously know very little of football in my opinion if you reckon Agger's the problem.

Contrary to popular belief, his "passing out the back" isn't actually very good. He's good at running into free space, and does try and distribute wherever possible, but his passing is usually pretty wayward.

He's not going to chase someone down and tackle 'em. and I can see him just sitting back and becoming a third centre-back rather than moving around trying to cover others who have foraged forward.

So nah.

Agger should be very low down on the list of garbage in this club. I'd keep him. He's one of our better players. When fit, obviously.

We need a new CB, who he replaces is not my biggest concern.
We need a centre back with a good aerial presence, if we want him to replace Carra, then we need him to also be a great organiser, if he's to replace Agger, that's not so important. I agree that neither Agger nor Carra are a great problem on their own, but as a partnership we need to do better.

Agger is a very good player when fit. He has still not played that many games since coming back and will improve when(if) he plays more games.

He needs a commanding centre back who organizes the defense at his side though so I hope Carra gets back sooner rather than later.

Oh and I wouldn't really like to see him playing DM. I'd rather see a good DM do that.

My memory is poor at the best of times, but I think he did play for us in DM in one game during an injury crisis and did ok (not that I endorse this idea).

Roys worst mistake (and there were a few) was buying Ming instead of directly replacing Masher (with someone good).

When you start agreeing with my opinions on Daniel Agger (or indeed Danish players in general), it'll be confirmation that I've lost all sense of perspective.

Witty and clever respons. Good for you.

I suppose it would be a good excuse when we got beat

'Well Agger was out so we had to play Lucas'

He's a fucking crock and he's out that long that when he comes back he's shit.

I remember Aurelio in midfield once or twice. Not Agger though
[/quote]

I might be confusing the two, but I have a hazy recollection of Rafa picking Carra, Skittles, and Agger in a game + 2 full backs. I think everyone on here then tried to guess if we were going to play 5-3-2 or Carra in midfield, and Rafa threw a curve ball by playing Agger in DM.

Although it could just be something I imagined whilst playing Pro Evo drunk.

With the general consensus being that we need a tough midfield enforcer in the mould of Mascherano, I can't imagine why anyone would suggest Agger as the solution.

Piss weak in the challenge, and for what it's worth, his positioning hasn't been great. The great myth of Daniel Agger is only perpetuated by brief cameos of him striding into midfield with the ball, and then over the course of each of his injuries we get plenty of time to forget about all the shockers he has.

Desperation and despair seem like obvious reasons to me.

Was this my suggestion? I dont remember it being my suggestion!
If it was it was probably any solution to keep Poucas out of the team. Which imho is a fucking boss idea.

Largely i just reckon were fucked and need minimum 4 new players all of whom are class and will adapt to our system and play immediately.
