Dahoud off to Dortmund - £10.3m

I think we were, but not now that Wijnaldum is here. Don't think Can is going anywhere either.

I think we were ... but a few factors have come into play:
1) We signed Gini, who has shown to be a pretty solid player.
2) Henderson has developed nicely in his role.

I think it means, as Rurik says, that Can has a future here.

Dortmund really buy well.

Wasn't it reported quite a while ago that our interest had cooled. Dortmund are buying really well of late, but the Toprak transfer isnt making much sense to me. He's not good enough to improve what they've already got.

Old news Rosco, was it really worthy of it's own thread? Ha!

We were interested, he chose Dortmund. They can offer CL football each season, we can't guarantee it. We played the role of the ditched suitor as soon as it became clear we were being used. "Fine, we didn't want you anyway".

It will happen many times this summer too.

It was first mentioned over a week ago that it 'would' happen.

It was reported yesterday again on other various non main stream media outlets that he had agreed with Dortmund.

Main stream media picked it up a few hours ago. And it was posted on at least one thread on here.

Hence old news old chap.

Isn't he an out and out DM? If so, we could do with one. Can and Wijnaldum aren't.

Disappointed as this guy looked played like a young inestia. Great passing range and can run with the ball.

I don't think Henderson will ever be consistently good enough to lead this club to anything of note , it bugs me ever since he was made captain that it's always been a case of 'Henderson plus dahoud' or whatever.

Seems a good guy and he tries , which is nice, I just think we should be aspiring for more..

It's really embarrassing how the club immediately run their mouthpiece journos to churn articles like this the moment it seems that ANOTHER player we've been tracking down for ages, chooses to go to Dortmund.

He even shares the same agent as Can, so I doubt we were no longer interested but rather trying to save our own arses. Only way we can recover from this is if we sign someone with at least the same calibre as Dahoud; young, promising, but has established first team status elsewhere.

The price says something. He's clearly unproven and that price and shows it. Would he reall have displaced hendo can or gini?
If the summer is indeed gonna bring a spending spree in, it would makes sense that we go for someone better.

It was his release clause from a contract he signed when he was unproven.

He's more creative than Can.

It was reported in December/January that our interest had cooled. So it doesnt seem like a trend, or as if he rejected us now.

Dortmund are doubling down (or tripling or quadrupling down) on their strategy of buying the best available young talent. Great business model, but as they say you can't win anything with kids. Personally I wouldn't want to go this route – I'm all for buying and developing talented youths, but not stacking all 11 playing positions with them. Especially in midfield, I think Klopp felt players like Gini, Hendo and Lallana give him more consistency than Dahoud, that's why it seems our interest has cooled a while ago. Who knows, in a few years Dahoud still might end up here (if Klopp is still the manager) – the talent is still very much there even though he had a frustrating season with Monchengladbach.

Indian paper reporting we offered more than Dormund but he apparently preferred to work under Thomas Tuchel.

I hope Indian football press has higher veracity standards than Italian and Portuguese press... but I doubt it. Most likely complete and utter bollocks.

If Klopp sticks with the same midfield we have today, we ain't winning shit. I don't think Dahoud was the answer but the status quo isn't good either.

But surely if he's that good, he'd have the likes of Utd Chelski citeh etc piling in pushing up the price. They're not, which is why the price is what it is.
Unless I'm mistaken, the release clause is the minimum needed for a club to talk to him?

Yeah 'cos Dortmund haven't got a multitude of talent have they?

So if Barca really want him and offer 20mill and double the wages on offer from Dortmund ...
Why would you offer more money to the selling club when the release clause is set? You've played too much Football Manager.

For what it's worth, some rumours suggesting we offered more wages than Dortmund.
