I think last season the idea was to play the ball out of defence straight into the final third quickly and that was only possible due to the movement that was going on upfield thanks to Suarez and Studge of course.
Now we obviously have no movement upfront and yet Rodgers' game plan hasn't changed. We are practically passing it around our centre backs and Stevie for 90 mins. It's absurd, why aren't we doing something else? Is Rodgers a one trick pony?

Wow we're negative.

Every player, first reaction is to pass it backwards - even Gerrard.

The movement in the last 20 minutes looked utterly non-existent but still, first thought is backwards. It's like Didi in the last moments of GH's time here.

As Macca has said, Sterling is utterly wasted. The life's gone out of him just now and he needs resting. Not sure how Rodgers can do that but, right now, there's not much point playing him.

Two major positive - Manquillo has played his best game for us. Utterly savaged by Madrid but he's been up against their most dangerous player and given as good as he's gotten.

Lambert scoring - looked close to tears when he was celebrating. Beautiful goal as well - pity it wasn't at Anfield.

No reason we shouldn't win this. We look well capable of either to be honest but we should be able to find a win here.

I'm afraid so. Well it seems like it.

Just checked that palace are second from bottom not top. Stop respecting them. Come on

I think the reason is that they look capable of scoring with every attack and we're struggling to muster anything in the final third.

I am hoping we can get conjure up a couple of moments of magic but conceding and then going onto lose the game feels like the more likely outcome these days.

id actually be much happier if we sat back and played on the counter as we're not stringing anything together at the moment

We're depending on individual skill to break through. It's becoming sad.
If Brendan doesn't change something they'll win.

It's amazing how he's so reliant on that system, yet he took 100m in the summer which all he really had to do with is replace one clever moving offensive player, and he did the exact opposite of that.

Whilst its gutting were down due to some bad luck with Joe Allen's leaky head, you cant argue a draw is about right at the moment.

stupid fouls, lambert on the wing and literally nobody in the box but it still gets crossed in twice, slow to get forward and even slower to get back, simple passes misplaced constantly, honestly this is amateurish stuff

That's one thing we miss from Reina - bowling the ball out really quickly. Ming hesitates before doing anything. And he can't kick.

Chamakh is consistently underrated in the worst hair cuts in football lists. He deserves something for sticking with it.

Borini will come on and change this game.

The goal aside, Lambert has continued his lumbering immobile forward routine this afternoon.

I think we need to recall every player we've got out on loan.

They'd all no doubt improve us
