Cricket: England in South Africa 2015/16 (Basil D'Oliveira Trophy)

SA has lost in Durban more often than not ... but I think this is very much the nail in the coffin of a wonderful team that had everything needed to be the top ranked team (bar a top notch spinner). Hopefully it won't be too ugly - but it's been a fun ride the last few years and I hope that the next group of stars have a chance to learn from the top players like Hash, AB, Steyn etc before they retire.

Yup great for him to comeback so well against the proteas who nearly ruined him with all that bail knocking off nonsense. Really glad that Bairstow took that sharp stumping after the stick he got yesterday, and can't wait for Bob Willis to comment on it after he said he was like a performing seal flapping about last night. Very harsh, that ball turned MILES, Alan Knott would have struggled with that!
A lot of people on Bairstow's case - I don't agree with them, that was a tough ball to catch.

Well, that is the big problem for SA, there is no group of talent coming through. De Kock, Rabada...who else?

I thought Bairstow was fantastic - His batting was great. I loved him going for the runs yesterday when he could have blocked and prodded. Nice that he got the stumping as well. Willis and his stupid 'judge' thing annoys the fuck out of me so I rarely watch 'The Verdict' - TMS podcast is way better. 🙂

Faf, AB and Amla both have 3-5 years left ... So that is the veterans needed.
Roussow, Elgar are mid to late 20s.
Rabada has star potential ... as does De Kock ...
There's a very few interesting talents that may develop wtih experience ... but this has basically been a 'set side' for 4-5 years, so now will change to see if the potential there can grow.

Ha ha love them both, can't get enough cricket me!

I cannot understand why Rabada didn't play was he injured? From what I have seen if he stays fit he will be your star bowler in years to come. Maybe its down to balancing the side and his lack of batting talent but that is a mistake imho. He also helps with your quota doesn't he?. Surely they should be establishing De Kock in the side too? He's been brilliant in one day international cricket and is only 23 mad mad mad to burden AB with the gloves!

I don't think that Rabada is injured.
How the selectors think that Abbot and Morris will trouble any test team is beyond me.

If he's not injured, I'm guessing they're taking the De Kock path ... Give him a lot of exposure in ODIs and then move him into tests ...

A lovely little tonic for the rubbish LFC performance is a wonderful knock from Stokes in Cape Town. I suspect SA might regret taking the new ball 😀

EDIT: Unless you are @LeTallecWiz who I believe follows SA. Sorry man. I wasn't rubbing salt into the wound. It's been a great day for both teams really. Good cricket all round.

Awesome first session for England and Stokes in particular. I'm listening to the SA commentary and fair play they are enjoying his knock as much as I am.

Holy shit! What a session. One of the best I've seen. Extraordinary knock!

Ha and they say test cricket is boring ! absolutely amazing stuff, hope Bairstow can get the 5 runs
I certainly don't fella. I missed the first hour as well I'm annoyed to say. Brilliant stuff though. Stokes really is amazing. What a player!

Playing a team bereft of confidence missing its two of its three best bowlers ... England doing what any good team should be doing, and then some.

Proteas not even trying now, and that will carry on in the batting. Sad

End of an era.

I'm really not being condescending I assure you - I sympathise but agree. The loss of Smith and Kallis, the hammering in India and then on top of all that the injuries. Not good for the SA fan. On top of all that they come up against a frankly sparkling England team. Let's wait and see how this track plays out and see what happens.

It's cool ... cycles n' shit ... All great teams have to 'come back down' and the hardest thing is to climb back up ... As Liverpool fans, we surely know how difficult the task is! 🙁

Well shame about the spunky declaration coz I was enjoying that. All the time Bairstow was scoring like that I would have kept going but nearly two wickets down at tea justifies that. Pure carnage that.

As for Amlas captaincy and SA tactics very poor.

Amla's captaincy should be a major concern for SA. His field placings were (at times) utterly bizarre. Then again Stokes was pretty much unplayable.

He was never captaincy material ... He was chosen for the same reason Prince stayed so long in the team etc ...

That was the best morning of cricket I ever remember watching. Stunning knock from Stokes. The fact that Bairstow's scintillating 150 looked pedestrian by comparison says it all.

Certainly runs Trent Bridge 2015 close as one of the most remarkable sessions of cricket! Shame Root dropped that dolly otherwise a perfect day for England

Just finishing watching the highlights of what was simply astonishing day's play. Stokes reminded me of Brian Lara at his pomp-- some of those strokes, wow! On a weekend when there was little good news, I'm prepared to forget yesterday's football results. A shout out to Bairstow-- nothing like a good partner when on song! Come on, England.

I couldn't find the highlights - Anyone know of a link or something. Cheers.
