Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of former Cardiff City playmaker Peter Whittingham.
The 32-year-old, who becomes manager Tony Mowbray’s first signing, has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at Ewood Park, which runs through to the summer of 2019.
Whittingham started his career with Aston Villa, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2002, before making his first team debut in the Premier League in a 1-1 draw away to Newcastle in April 2003.
The winger would go on to play 66 games for the Midlands club, scoring twice, before joining Cardiff in January 2007.
Over the past decade, Whittingham has made over 450 appearances for the Welsh club, scoring 98 goals.
A set-piece specialist, the versatile midfielder played a prominent role in Cardiff’s remarkable run to the FA Cup final in 2008 and League Cup final in 2012, and was one of the standout performers as the Bluebirds secured the Championship crown in 2013.
An England Under-21 international, Whittingham leaves the Welsh capital as one of the club’s all-time leading scorers and with a vast collection of individual accolades, notably being named in the Championship Team of the Year on three occasions and the Football League Team of the Decade in 2015.

TSG Hoffenheim have completed the signing of rising Dutch star Justin Hoogma. The centre back, who celebrated his 19th birthday last Sunday, comes to Kraichgau from Dutch Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo and has signed a contract with TSG until 30th June 2021.
“Justin is a highly talented defender, a left-footer who is extremely good at building up the play and has already made history at Dutch football’s top level,” said Alexander Rosen, director of football at Hoffenheim. The son of Nico-Jan Hoogma, who made 177 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburger SV between 1998 and 2004, Justin is the youngest player in Eredivisie history to have played every minute in a single season’s 34 games.
“Because of their playing style and their reputation of taking players to the next level, I was hooked right from our very first talks,” said the defender after putting pen to paper on his new deal with last season’s fourth-placed Bundesliga side. Justin Hoogma worked his way through FC Twente’s various youth teams before completing the move to Heracles Almelo. He has also made seven appearances for the Netherlands at youth level (U19 and U20).

Carlos Salcedo - Eintracht Frankfurt (loan with option to buy)
[article]Mexico international defender Carlos Salcedo has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a season-long loan from Chivas Guadalajara.
The 23-year-old is set to become the eighth Mexican to play in the Bundesliga, alongside international teammates Marco Fabian - who he joins at Frankfurt - and Bayer Leverkusen's Javier Hernandez.
A Chivas and Tigres UANL youth player and later a Real Salt Lake academy graduate, Guadalajara-born Salcedo made 25 MLS appearances for the RSL first team, before returning to hometown giants Chivas in January 2015. He turned out 49 times for his boyhood club, but was on the move again 18 months later, joining Fiorentina at the start of 2016/17 on loan.
"I am very exciting about playing in the Bundesliga, and for my new team in Frankfurt," Salcedo said. "It's a great step for me to be able to play in Germany, I am very happy."
The nine-time Mexico international, who made 20 appearances for La Viola in all competitions last term, is currently away on FIFA 2017 Confederations Cup duty.
"We've been watching Carlos for a long time," admitted Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic. "With him we are bringing in a central defender who doesn't shy away from 50-50 challenges. He has real Mexican fighting spirit."
Salcedo will help to plug the gap left by Jesus Vallejo, who has returned to parent club Real Madrid after an impressive season on loan with the Eagles. The Mexican is Frankfurt's fourth summer recruit after Sebastien Haller (Utrecht), Gelson Fernandes (Stade Rennes) and Danny da Costa (Leverkusen), and the club have the option to make his loan move permanent next summer.
