[article]Reading Football Club are pleased to announce that Finnish goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola has completed a move to Madejski Stadium, signing a two-year deal with the Royals.

The 29-year-old keeper joins the RG2 ranks for an undisclosed transfer fee, moving from South African top flight side Ajax Cape Town to become a Reading player ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

The 6’5” Finn began his career in his homeland before moving to Tuscany and Italian side Siena in 2006. He went on to represent Slavia Prague for one season before a move to the UK transpired when Kilmarnock came calling for his services in 2011.

He played 13(+1) times for Killie, managed by fellow Finn Mixu Paatelainen at the time, and Jaakkola kept six clean sheets during his time at Rugby Park whilst also making a senior international appearance for Finland against Sweden.

Three years ago he put pen to paper on move to the Premier Soccer League out in South Africa and he kept a clean sheet in the final of the MTN 8 cup competition in 2015 to hand his Cape Town club a 1-0 win over the Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Anssi now becomes a Royal, signing a contract which is set to keep him at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2018. This evening, he will fly out to Holland to link up with his new teammates during a pre-season training camp in Oosterbeek. [/article]

Attacking midfielder Correa, 21, began his senior career with Estudiantes before signing for Sampdoria in January 2015.

Correa has been named in the Argentina squad for next month's Olympic Games in Brazil.

[article]The Bantams have moved to strengthen their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season by completing the signing of experienced shot-stopper Colin Doyle.

Doyle has penned a two-year deal with Bradford City this Tuesday to become the club's third signing of the summer.

The 31 year-old moves to Valley Parade after City triggered a release clause in his contract with previous club Blackpool following their relegation into Sky Bet League Two.

The Cork-born custodian has been capped for Republic of Ireland at senior and under-21 level.

Despite Blackpool's eventual relegation from League One last season, Doyle kept an impressive eleven clean-sheets out of thirty-five games for the Tangerines.

The imposing 'keeper, who stands at over 6' 5'', will be reunited with current City goalkeeping coach Steve Banks after the pair previously worked together at Bloomfield Road.

Doyle spent one season at Blackpool having joined them from Birmingham City in 2015. He was named their club captain upon his arrival.

Prior to his time with Blackpool, Doyle enjoyed a lengthy association with first club Birmingham.

Doyle spent twelve years in total at St Andrews after signing his first professional contract in 2003.

While at Birmingham, Doyle played for the Blues in the Premier League, Championship and UEFA Europa League.

The 22-year-old scored 12 goals in all competitions on loan in 2013-14, where he was a team mate of Latics manager Gary Caldwell.

His new manager is delighted he is back:

“Nick is a quality player,” he said, “he’s the one player we wanted to get this summer and we are so happy we’ve got him. When I played with him, he was the best 19-year-old I’d ever played with.

“He’s had a frustrating couple of years with injuries and not managing to settle anywhere, but we absolutely believe in him because he’s a special player with the talent to get a stadium to its feet.

“He is still very young and has got so much more to give the game. We are delighted he can continue his progress with us.”

Powell initially arrived on loan at Latics in the summer of 2013 and his seven league goals played a big part in the team reaching the Championship Play-Offs. He also scored three goals in the club’s first ever Europa League campaign and another two in the FA Cup on the road to the semi-final.

Manchester United paid £6million for him in 2012 after he had come through the ranks at Crewe Alexandra and played over 50 games for the Railwaymen. Since his loan spell at the DW Stadium, he has also spent time at Leicester City and Hull City. [/article]

Ashley Fletcher - West Ham (compensation fee)
fletcher-726-july-12.jpg

[article]West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of promising striker Ashley Fletcher from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has joined the Hammers on a four-year contract and becomes the fourth signing of the summer following the arrival of Havard Nordtveit, Sofiane Feghouli and Gokhan Tore.

England U20 international Fletcher spent the second half of last season on loan at Barnsley, for whom he scored the opening goal in the Tykes’ League One Play-Off final victory over Millwall.

The talented forward underwent a successful medical at Spire Roding Hospital before agreeing personal terms and cannot wait to show his best form for the east London Club.

“I am very excited to be here. West Ham are a massive club and I am just happy that I can come and further my development here at West Ham.

“I think it is a Club with a lot of ambition. They have a lot of good players and it was a special final season. They managed to finish the campaign very well.

“West Ham are a Club built on traditions of giving youngsters a run and hopefully I can get my chance as well.”

Born in Keighley in West Yorkshire in October 1995, Fletcher was an outstanding student and athlete at school in Bolton, Greater Manchester, where he attained 12 GCSEs and excelled at football, cricket, athletics and basketball.

Prior to that, Fletcher had joined Bolton Wanderers’ Academy at the age of nine, spending four years with the Trotters before moving to Manchester United.

The young forward came through the ranks at Old Trafford, scoring regularly at U16 and U18 levels before scoring in the final three games of the 2014/15 season as the Red Devils clinched the Under-21 Premier League title.

Tall, strong, determined and blessed with a subtle touch, Fletcher struck up a potent partnership with the highly-rated James Wilson during his time within the Manchester United youth set-up, impressing in both domestic football and the UEFA Youth League.

Fletcher’s ability and promise saw Barnsley take the 20-year-old on loan in January 2016, a decision they would certainly not regret as the Yorkshireman amassed nine goals and four assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

At international level, he scored on his England U20 debut against France in November 2015, before partnering fellow Manchester United Academy graduate Marcus Rashford against Canada in March this year.

The Hammers and Manchester United will now finalise the terms of the transfer after his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of last season.[/article]

He stayed in England's second tier last season and enjoyed more of a regular starting role with Birmingham City.

Toral started 28 games, making 36 total appearances, for Gary Rowett's side and scored eight league goals.

The 21-year-old now gets the chance in La Liga with Granada, who narrowly avoided relegation last season when finishing 16th, just a point outside the bottom three.[/article]

canos-4x3132-3183472_613x460.jpg

[article]CITY are delighted to confirm the arrival of talented young attacking midfielder Sergi Canos from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

Canos, who made his Reds debut in their final Premier League match of last season, moves to Carrow Road on a four-year deal with an option for another year.

The 19-year-old, who rejected the offer of a new contract at Anfield, spent the majority of the 2015-16 campaign on loan at Brentford, making 39 appearances and winning the club’s goal of the season award for his strike in their 2-1 win at Reading.

After signing his Canaries deal, Canos told Norwich City TV: "From the beginning, Norwich showed very good interest and showed that they believe in me.

"I’m very excited to be here. Carrow Road impressed me, I’ve seen videos of it and it looks an amazing atmosphere and I can’t wait to play there."

Canos, a Spain youth international, joined Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy from his local team Nules, spending three years with the Catalan giants before moving to Merseyside as a 16-year-old in 2013.

After starring for the Club’s Under-18s and Development sides, Canos joined the Bees on loan last August and helped them to a 9th-place finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

City manager Alex Neil added: "Sergi has a good background having been at Barcelona before moving to Liverpool at a young age.

"At Brentford last year he did really well. With Nathan Redmond leaving we wanted to replace him with someone exciting; someone who can dribble, can score goals and can provide assists.

The Brazilian defender, signed from the Turkish team Galatasaray, will be at the service of Nuno Espírito Santo for this afternoon’s training session, and already expressed his happiness about wearing the blue and white jersey, with which he hopes to win titles and become a part of the history of the club.

Before joining the blue and white squad, the player visited Estádio do Dragão, passing by the gallery next to the locker-rooms, full of images of great victories and legends of the club, which allowed him to know a “little more about the greatness of the club”. “I am eager for titles, to build a beautiful story. After the walk through the Stadium, the player that was considered the best fullback of Brasileirão, the Brazilian main league, in 2013 then went to the Centro de Treinos e Formação Desportiva Porto Gaia, to join the new teammates and take part in this afternoon’s training session. “I can’t wait to train with them, and tell them I’m here to do my best and help them in what they need”, Alex stated.

Alex Telles signed a contract with the blue and whites in a day full of meaning: 13, the number he has tattooed on his left arm. “It’s the day of Our Lady of Fátima, a very special day for me and my family, my parent’s wedding day, the day I signed contracts… So we’re starting with the right foot, and I hope to build a beautiful story from now on”.[/article]

CnQ5l7dWAAAw2Uy.jpg

[article]City have secured the signing of Juventus and Icelandic international defender Hordur Magnusson for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, who can operate in central defence or at left-back, has passed a medical and put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

He becomes Lee Johnson’s fourth signing of the summer and will link up with the squad in La Manga next week.

Head coach Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: “We’ve been looking to bring him in since the end of last season, but with (loan club) Cesena reaching the play-offs and then his commitments with Iceland in Euro 2016, it has taken time to get him across to Bristol.

“I’ve shown him around Failand, Ashton Gate and the city with his family. He also met with (majority shareholder) Steve Lansdown.

“It’s a deal I’m really excited about because he has attributes to play as high as he wants, although I’m sure it will take him time to adjust to the English game.

“He’s very mobile, quick and smooth on the ball. He’s 6ft 3in and has a great left foot, and at the age of 23 has plenty of time to mature as a player.”

Chief operating officer Mark Ashton said: “Along with Lee, I’m delighted we have been able to secure the services of Hordur.

“It’s been a real team effort from a number of people at the club to get this deal done and I look forward to welcoming him to Ashton Gate.”

Born in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, Magnusson began life in the youth setup of Knattspyrnufelagio Fram. He was then signed by Juventus for their Academy in 2011.

After two seasons with their Under-19s, the defender was promoted to the first team squad in 2013.

That summer he joined Serie B side Spezia Calcio in a co-ownership agreement and made 20 appearances for the club in their play-off push.

For the past two seasons he has been on loan at Cesena, gaining both Serie A and Serie B experience.

Magnusson has five caps for Iceland, having also played at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 for the Nordic nation.

His greatest moment came when he was called up for Iceland’s Euro 2016 squad, as his country embarked on their first-ever major tournament appearance.

Although the defender failed to make an appearance in France, the experience of being part of the squad that reached the quarter-finals – knocking out England along the way – will forever be etched in his memory.

Magnusson now begins a new chapter of his career in England with City, having signed a three-year deal.[/article]

Adam Nagy - Bologne (€1.5 million with add ons up to €300k)
CnVOPnHWcAEk_vI.jpg

[article]Bologna FC 1909 are pleased to announce that they have signed Hungary international midfielder Ádám Nagy on a permanent deal from Ferencváros TC.

Hungarian football, a fertile ground for talented players that has always been confidently and successfully harvested by Bologna FC, will have another of its products wearing red and blue this season. Adam Nagy is an intelligent midfielder who has just won the Hungarian title with Ferencvaros and played for his country at the European Championships and now he will become the eighth Hungarian to wear our shirt. Younger fans will never forget a world-class player like Lajos Detari who never quite reached the heights he could and should have scaled. Older fans might remember the thunderous right foot of Stefano Mike, the great centre forward of the years of rebuilding in the ‘40s and ‘50s. Bologna’s expert fans will endlessly reminisce about, among others, goalkeeper Koch and midfielder Sarosi as well as knowledgeable and astute managers Lelovich and Kovacs. The most decorated Rossoblu Hungarian of all, however, remains ‘the Maestro’ Arpad Weisz who managed the greatest side in Bologna’s history. Click here for the complete history of all the Hungarians who have come to our club.

Nagy is a tidy and tactically intelligent player as well as an excellent character to have in the dressing room and he is always at the heart of his teams’ moves. He’s a perfect defensive shield and can play in any position in a central midfield made of two or three players. Recently, he reached the round of 16 at Euro 2016 with Hungary where he partnered club teammate Zoltan Gera in a defensive partnership in front of the back four to help guard against the threat of attacking midfielders. A mainly right-footed player, Nagy came straight up through the Ferencvaros youth system and quickly made his first-team debut with the added pressure of being lauded as an up-and-coming prospect. Since then, he has never left the starting XI of choice for the Hungarian champions who won their 29th league title and 22nd Hungarian Cup just a couple of months ago. Simultaneously, Nagy made his way through the international youth system and skipped straight from Under-20 level to the first team, making just one appearance for the Under-21s although he had to do a lot of gym work to bulk out. Since his debut against Northern Ireland, he has been a mainstay of Bernd Storck’s Hungary side. In July 2016, he made a permanent move to Bologna FC.[/article]

Juan Jesus - Roma (loan for €2 million with option to buy at €8 million)
jtuis1mexttnkdhkvtqy

[article]AS Roma can confirm the signing of Juan Jesus from Inter Milan.

The Brazilian joins on an initial season-long loan for a fee of €2 million.

The deal includes a compulsory purchase clause – for a further fee of €8m – should certain conditions be met before the deal ends on 30 June 2017.

The 25-year-old completed the contract formalities on Thursday after arriving at Roma's training camp in Pinzolo on Wednesday evening.

“I'm really happy to have joined such a great club and I can't wait to get started," he told Roma TV. “I can promise the fans that I'll always give my all and never stop running for Roma.”

Juan Jesus is the 41st Brazilian to don the Giallorossi jersey in the club's history – following in the footsteps of recent captures Gerson and Alisson.

After making his professional debut for Internacional in March 2010, the defender joined Inter in January 2012 and made his Serie A debut against Lazio in May that year.

He scored his first – and so far only – goal in Italy on 19 May 2013, in a 2-5 home defeat against Udinese.

In four years with the Nerazzurri the centre-back racked up 110 Serie A appearances - playing 20 times in the Europa League and on a further 12 occasions in the Coppa Italia.[/article]

Heiko Westermann - Ajax (undisclosed fee)
CnVm-DOWcAA3eKr.jpg

[article]Ajax has reached an agreement with Heiko Westermann and Real Betis for the defender’s transfer. In Amsterdam, the German player has signed a contract which takes effect immediately and is valid for two seasons, until June 30, 2018.

Westermann was born on August 14, 1983, in Alzenau, Germany. Prior to playing at Real Betis, he played, respectively, for SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Arminia Bielefeld, FC Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV. Westermann made his debut with the German national team on February 6, 2008. He has played in 27 interlands to date, scoring four goals.

Westermann: “I’m very happy with my contract with Ajax. We had a great conversation last week. I knew it immediately: I want to go to Ajax. It’s fantastic that everything has progressed so quickly.”

Trainer Peter Bosz: “Heiko adds something to our selection that we were missing. He has so much experience, he’s played in big competitions, is mentally strong, and can play in each defensive position. He’s two-footed and, if necessary, he can play at midfield. With Mike van der Hoorn’s departure and the arrival of Davinson Sánchez, our defensive picture is complete”, concluded the Ajax coach.

“Ajax is an amazing club with a world famous philosophy”, continues Westermann. “It’s a young team with many big talents. Thanks to many years of Bundesliga experience and my last year in Spain, I can help the young players at Ajax. I can share my experience with them.” He’s clear about his goals: “The all-important qualification matches for the Champions League main tournament start at the end of this month. We need to survive that. And of course, I want to win the championship as well.”[/article]

Saïd Ouaali - Ajax (Head of Youth Academy)

[article]Saïd Ouaali has been named as the head of Ajax’s youth academy. He signed a contract that goes into effect on July 1, 2016, and will be valid for three years, until June 30, 2019. With this appointment, he joins the club’s technical heart.

Ouaali (born on July 9, 1969 in Beni Said, Morocco) started as a coach in Ajax’s academy midway through the 2011-2012 season. As of 2014, he was also working as a coordinator for the oldest youth players. He has been combining this role with the job of interim head of the youth academy since December 2014.

Ouaali has previously coached at SV Marken, Jong Volendam and FC Lisse. In the spring of 2013, he received his Professional Football Coaching Diploma. As a player, he has been active for HFC Haarlem and Ajax’s Saturday seniors team.

Ouaali: “It’s great that I can continue with my current work at Ajax next season. This appointment is a show of appreciation and I’m naturally very proud of that. The past six months have certainly not been easy. My colleagues and I have worked hard to ensure that the high level of the academy’s training would remain so. Several new youth coaches have been appointed for next season to strengthen the staff. This will give me and Dennis Bergkamp the opportunity to focus on streaming youth players through to the Ajax Reserves and the first team. That means that, in addition to my role as head of the youth academy, I will regularly call on the reserves with Marcel Keizer and George Ogararu.”

Edwin van der Sar: “Saïd has been working in our academy for almost five years to everyone’s satisfaction. He’s completely supportive to the path that Ajax is taking and, in the past few months, he has done an outstanding job as the interim head of the youth academy. Dennis Bergkamp and I have worked with him intensively during this time, and we arrived at the conclusion that Saïd is the right person for this position. For us, it’s critical that, next to good scouting and good teaching, that the flow to the first team goes more smoothly. That process can still be improved and that will be[/article]

Denis Odoi - Fulham (undisclosed fee)
CnVeB40WYAA0pGw.jpg

[article]The Club is pleased to confirm the arrival of our fifth summer signing, Denis Odoi, after the player put pen to paper this afternoon.

The 28-year-old full-back, who is comfortable on either side, arrives from Belgian top-flight outfit Lokeren for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal, with a Club option for a further 12 months.

Odoi began his career at Oud-Heverlee Leuven, before moving to Sint-Truiden in 2009. Belgian giants Anderlecht then signed him for a reported £1.3m in 2011, and in each of his two seasons at the club he won the Belgian Pro League, whilst also representing Anderlecht in Europe.

Odoi joined Lokeren in 2013 and made 37 appearances in his debut campaign as they finished fifth in the league and won the Belgian Cup. That trophy win set up a UEFA Europa League qualifier against Hull City, whom they beat on away goals to progress to the group stages.

He departs Lokeren having made 117 appearances for the club in three years.

Odoi has represented his country at Under-20 and Under-21 level, and was handed his Belgium debut in 2012 in an international friendly against Montenegro. [/article]

Callum O'Dowda - Bristol City (undisclosed fee)
20160714-codlj43213-3186238_478x359.jpg

[article]City have completed the signing of Oxford United winger Callum O’Dowda for an undisclosed fee.

Newly-capped Republic of Ireland international O’Dowda has completed a medical and signed a three-year contract at Ashton Gate.

The 21-year-old is expected to play some part in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Yeovil Town before travelling with the squad to La Manga next week.

Head coach Lee Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: “He’s a real emerging talent. He’s very mobile, comfortable on the ball and hungry to improve. He’s got a great personality, which is conducive to having a very good career.

“Callum isn’t exactly under the radar because there was a lot of interest in him, so we’re delighted he’s joined us; we believe he can continue the progression he has already shown.

“He’s only just broken into the Republic of Ireland squad and is being spoken about as one for the future. I’ve heard nothing but positive feedback in terms of his quality and personality.

“I think if you asked him, he’d say he’s best cutting in from the right-hand side, but he can operate in a ball-carrying number ten role and is also an accomplished left-sided midfielder. I like being fluid and Callum offers us versatility.” Chief operating officer Mark Ashton said: “Having worked with Callum before at Oxford, I know how professionally he conducts himself, both on and off the field. I’m delighted to welcome him to Ashton Gate.”

O’Dowda has risen rapidly through the ranks at Oxford, having started in their youth setup at the age of eight.

He earned his first-team debut in the League Cup against Charlton Athletic in August 2013, before making his league bow two months later.

He became a regular in the first team during the 2014/15 season, and was integral to Oxford’s League Two promotion-winning campaign last year.

Oxford-born O’Dowda is eligible to represent Ireland through his grandfather and made nine appearances for the Under-21s before earning his senior international debut as a second-half substitute against Belarus in May. [/article]

Andriy Shevchenko - Ukraine (Manager)
CnaOytsW8AAw0u5.jpg

[article]Ukraine have appointed former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko as their new manager.

The 39-year-old, who won 111 caps, replaces Mykhaylo Fomenko, whose four-year spell ended with elimination at the group stage of Euro 2016.

Shevchenko was his assistant as Ukraine lost all of their matches, against Germany, Northern Ireland and Poland.

The former Dynamo Kyiv player, who retired in 2012, has never before worked as a manager.

Ukraine's record scorer with 48 goals, Shevchenko captained his country to their first World Cup finals in 2006.

He has signed a two-year contract with the possibility of another two-year extension.

Former Italy defender Mauro Tassotti, who was assistant coach when Shevchenko was at Milan, will join his coaching staff, as will former Dynamo Kiev coach Raul Riancho.

Ukraine's World Cup 2018 qualification campaign begins with a home match against Iceland in September. They are both in Group I along with Croatia, Turkey, Finland and Kosovo.[/article]

Hachim Mastour - PEC Zwolle (loan)
CnZrQ51XYAADShB.jpg

[article]AC Milan have sent young midfielder Hachim Mastour out on loan for a second consecutive season, with the Moroccan joining Dutch club PEC Zwolle.

Despite being named on the Rossoneri’s bench for the final game of the 2013/14 season, at the tender age of 15, Mastour has failed to establish himself at Milan and has spent time away from the club.

Last season saw the Reggio Emilia native go out on loan to Spanish outfit Malaga, but Mastour only made a solitary league appearances for the La Liga club.

The 18-year-old will hope to have more of an impact in the Eredivisie with Zwolle, but there are fears that Milan are weighing up whether to cut their losses if another unproductive season follows.

Indeed, new Rossoneri coach Vincenzo Montella sent Mastour out on loan without even offering him a chance to impress in training, with all the signs suggesting that the player’s days with the Diavolo could be numbered.

Despite his limited appearances over the past two seasons, Mastour is a full Morocco international, having made his debut in 2015 against Libya. In doing so, he became the North African side’s youngest ever player, at 16 years and 363 days.[/article]

The teenager, known as Marc Río, left the Spanish club at the end of last season and has agreed to move to England to be part of Brentford’s new B Team.

He represented the Spanish side in the UEFA Youth League, helping them to the Quarter-Finals before leaving in the summer.

Rob Rowan, Head of Football Operations, said: "We are all very pleased that Marc has decided to join Brentford B. [article]Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of England Under-21 international Kasey Palmer from Chelsea on a Standard Loan for the 2016/17 season.

19 year-old Kasey predominantly plays in the ‘number 10’ slot behind the main striker, but has also been deployed in the wide attacking areas too.

Having featured twice among Chelsea’s First Team substitutes towards the end of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, Kasey was part of the England Under-21 squad that won the Toulon Tournament in May 2016.

He has also helped Chelsea win back-to-back FA Youth Cups and UEFA Youth Leagues in the past two seasons.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“I believe Kasey is one of the best young English talents and I think our supporters will enjoy watching him in the new Sky Bet Championship season.

“He is a very skilful player with good football intelligence and we now have the time to work hard with him in training to help him understand our identity on the pitch.

“As I said about Danny Ward recently, I believe we can help Kasey make the next step in his career and send him back to Chelsea a better player once the season is over. I would like to thank everyone at Chelsea for allowing Kasey to come to us.”

Born in Lewisham, London, Kasey grew up in Catford and started his football career in the Academy at Charlton Athletic.

He left the Addicks to join Chelsea as a 16 year-old midway through the 2012/13 season and began to play for the Club’s Under-18 side immediately, despite still being a schoolboy at the time.

Kasey won the Under-21 Premier League title with the Blues as he began to break into the side and he has subsequently added two FA Youth Cups and UEFA Youth Leagues to his honours during the last two campaigns.

In the first of the FA Youth Cup victories, Kasey scored against Town’s Under-18 side in a Fourth Round win at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground back in January 2015.

Last season he scored 16 goals in 30 combined appearances for Chelsea U21 & U18 sides; one of which secured the UEFA Youth League title in a 2-1 final win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Having signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge in February 2016, he was named on the bench for the First Team towards the end of 2015/16 under Guus Hiddink for Premier League games against Swansea City and Liverpool FC.

He was subsequently a member of the England Under-21 squad that won the Toulon Tournament for the first time in 22 years in May.

John Swift - Reading (undisclosed fee)
swift-4x3-1154-3184532_613x460.jpg

[article]Reading Football Club are pleased to announce the signature of 21-year-old midfielder John Swift, who has put pen to paper on a three-year-deal with a one-year extension option at Madejski Stadium.

The Portsmouth-born playmaker scored seven goals in 23(+4) league appearances on loan at Brentford last season, including a brace against Wolves and a final day of the season strike at Huddersfield Town on his final appearance for the Bees in May.

Manager Jaap Stam said, “John is a very talented player. I’ve seen him play and I think he could be very important in the way we want to play.

"He can play as a winger on either side, or as an attacking midfielder. His physique is good, he is good on the ball, he has the pace to get past players, and he has the capability of putting his teammates in front of goal with chances to score. He is going to be a big asset for the club."

An England Under-21 international, Swift came through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge, joining the Blues’ Academy after a successful trial in 2007.

He went on to lift the FA Youth Cup in 2012, playing alongside former Royals loanees Nathaniel Chalobah, Nathan Ake and Lucas Piazon in a 4-0 first leg win that would be enough to earn him his first piece of silverware.

In 2013–14, Swift helped Chelsea’s Under-21s claim the U21 Premier League title, scoring 9 goals in 26 appearances for the Blues and he would make his professional debut as an 18-year-old, coming off the bench to replace Eden Hazard in a 2-1 win for Chelsea against Cardiff City in May 2014.

The following season he enjoyed loan spells at Rotherham and Swindon Town, helping the latter reach the League One play-off Final in 2015. He then linked up with Brentford for the 2015-16 campaign, making a big impression at Griffin Park.

Swift has represented England from Under-16 through to Under-21 level and he recently helped Gareth Southgate’s men to Toulon tournament triumph out in Avignon – playing a part in a 4-0 win over Paraguay, a 1-0 win against Japan and the 2-1 victory over France in the Final back in May.

“John is a talented midfielder with a lot of potential,” Chief Executive Nigel Howe said. “He has benefitted from a fantastic upbringing within football whilst at Chelsea and on the international scene with England and he has also experienced the competitive nature of the EFL during a variety of loan spells. We are all looking forward to seeing him represent Reading Football Club going forward.” [/article]

[article]Valencia defender Antonio Barragán has become Boro's latest summer signing.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract after completing a medical at Rockliffe on Friday afternoon.

Barragán, who signed for Liverpool as an 18-year-old, brings a wealth of experience, having made over 100 appearances for Valencia after spells with Deportivo La Coruna and Valladolid.

Head Coach Aitor Karanka was delighted to sign the right back.

"I am really pleased he has signed," said Karanka.

"He is a player we know a lot about and he is a good addition to the squad.

"He is a good lad, and he has played a lot of games for Valencia.

"He knows this country as well because he was at Liverpool as a young player.

"He is a good signing for us."

No happy about this. I can never understand the logic behind appointing former big-name players to high-profile jobs without any coaching experience. It's a completely different job for fuck's sake! Many fans in Ukraine have been against this appointment because Shevchenko seemed to undermine the national team head coach Fomenko when he served as his assistant at the Euros – people say Sheva was actually running things behind the scenes and of course the Euros was a complete disaster for Ukraine.

N'Golo Kante - Chelsea (reportedly £32 million)
kante-signs.img.png

[article]The second addition to Antonio Conte’s squad for the coming season has been completed. N’Golo Kante is a Chelsea player.

Following on from the signing of Michy Batshuayi from the French League, Kante joins from Premier League Leicester City, where he so memorably played a major part in the Foxes’ championship triumph last season.

The 25-year-old came close to adding to that success on the international stage earlier this month. He was part of the France squad that was denied a host-team triumph at Euro 2016 by an extra-time Portugal goal in the final.

After signing a five-year contract, Kante said: ‘I am so happy to have signed for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. It’s a dream come true for me.

‘The opportunity to work with Antonio Conte, a brilliant coach, and some of the best players in the world was simply too good to turn down.

‘My first season in English football was very special and now I hope to go on to achieve even more during my time as a Chelsea player. I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and helping the club achieve a lot of success.’

Chelsea Football Club technical director Michael Emenalo added: ‘N’Golo is a fantastic signing ahead of the new season and we are delighted to have been able to bring such a talented player to the club.

‘He is a perfect fit in terms of Antonio Conte’s philosophies and the style of football he wants to play.

‘For a player of his age he has already built up a wealth of experience and his exceptional quality will without doubt be a great addition to the team.’

The midfielder was the first signing made after Claudio Ranieri became Leicester manager last summer.

What followed is well-known throughout the world of football as Kante’s ability to win possession of the ball and retain it, and to power his team forward marked him out as the best transfer of the year in many people’s eyes.

He played in all but one of the league games in Leicester’s title win and made the Premier League’s most number of tackles and interceptions. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

The France national team came calling in March of this year. Kante impressed and made the starting line-up for the opening game of Euro 2016 when the hosts took on Romania. His figures for passing, tacking and intercepting in that match were again unsurpassed and he supplied the ball for Dmitri Payet to strike a spectacular late winner.

He was suspended for the quarter-final win over Iceland and began the semi-final and final on the bench. He came on in the first of those games against Germany but although many were calling for his introduction as the French midfield laboured against Portugal, he remained an unused substitute in the competition’s decider.

Chelsea is the fourth professional club of Kante's career. A Parisian by birth, he played for his local amateur side Suresnes until the age of 19 when he moved north and joined Boulogne.

Kante’s performances for Boulogne in 2012/13, when they were in the French third tier, caught the eye of Caen in the division above, and he helped power the Normandy club to promotion to Ligue 1 in his first season there. He played every game.

Following a second season with Caen he joined Leicester City.

Kante comes to Chelsea with a Premier League winners’ medal and eight international caps to his name.[/article]

The 16-year-old midfielder has switched from Viitorul, where he scored three goals in 31 appearances last season.

Hagi became the youngest player to captain a side in Romanian top-flight history in August 2015, and Fiorentina manager Paulo Sousa monitored the youngster throughout last campaign.

[article]Swansea City have bolstered their goalkeeping options by signing Australia international Mark Birighitti on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old, named in the A-League’s 2015-16 team of the season after some impressive displays for Newcastle Jets, has signed a two-year contract.

Birighitti’s arrival at the Liberty gives head coach Francesco Guidolin further options in goal, with Lukasz Fabianski, Kristoffer Nordfeldt and Gerhard Tremmel already competing for the number one position.

After playing youth football at the Australian Institute of Sport, Perth product Birighitti made his first professional appearance for Adelaide United in 2008.

He spent six months on loan at Italian Serie B side Varese – where he worked with current Swans coach Gabriele Ambrosetti - in January 2015 before returning to his parent club.

The 2015-16 season proved hugely successful for Birighitti, who caught the eye with a number of quality performances despite his side finishing eighth in the ten-team A-League.

On the international front, Birighitti has one senior cap for Australia – against China in 2013 – while he was an unused substitute in his nation’s 2-1 friendly defeat to England in May.
