CmHzPI4WQAAf8Aa.jpg

[article]Nicolas Nkoulou hopes to help Lyon "achieve great things" after joining them from Marseille.

With reports linking Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti with a switch to Barcelona after Euro 2016, Les Gones have moved to strengthen their back line with the capture of Nkoulou, 26.

The Cameroon international was unveiled at a news conference on Wednesday where he said he is looking forward to getting going at his new club.

"I am here because OL is a club which can help me continue to grow. It's a real pleasure to be here," he said. "I will wear this shirt with a lot of desire and I will work to achieve great things.

"I spent five good years at OM, I was out of contract and it was time to turn the page.''

Nkoulou began his career at Monaco in 2008 before joining Marseille in 2011, where he won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2012.

He will provide reinforcements for Lyon's defence, with Bakary Kone having left for Malaga and Lindsay Rose linked with Lorient. Umtiti has been linked with Barca and Lyon coach Bruno Genesio has admitted it is "difficult to resist" if he wishes to move to the Camp Nou.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said: "Nicolas Nkoulou was a priority of the coach and has signed for four years. We are very happy.''

Aulas' advisor Bernard Lacombe added: "Nicolas is a player of great quality. We have wanted him since he was at Monaco.''

Lyon have also been linked with River Plate's 20-year-old defender Emanuel Mammana.

Nkoulou will take his favoured No. 3 shirt, vacated by Henri Bedimo's move in the other direction to Marseille last week.

"The No. 3? It is a wink to those close to me, because I am the youngest of three children,'' he said of his attachment to the shirt number he also wears at international level.[/article]

[article]Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated Manchester City midfielder Jack Byrne.

The Ireland Under-21 international, who is tipped to have a big future in the game, joins on a season-long loan from the Premier League giants.

Born in Dublin, Byrne moved to Manchester City at the age of 15 and quickly progressed through the club’s youth ranks.

A versatile midfielder, who is equally adept in a holding role or playing further forward, Byrne top scored for City in the inaugural season (2014-15) of the Under-19 UEFA Youth League, scoring six goals in eight games.

He spent last season on loan at Dutch top-flight side SC Cambuur and earned rave reviews for his performances in the Eredivisie. Byrne scored four goals in 27 games for Cambuur and became the youngest scorer in the club’s history, aged 19 years and 240 days, when he netted in the 4-1 win over Excelsior.

An Ireland international at all youth levels, Byrne was called up to train with the senior squad by manager Martin O’Neill in March, but missed out on a place at Euro 2016.

The exciting youngster, who possesses the technique, vision, passing ability and battling qualities to make it to the top, becomes Owen Coyle’s fifth summer signing and will join up with his new Rovers team-mates on Friday July 1st.

The club have been given permission for the 20-year-old to play for Rovers in this season’s EFL Cup and FA Cup competitions.[/article]

Apostolos Vellios - Nottingham Forest (reportedly £1 million)
CmG4OvVXIAAa_DC.jpg

[article]Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Greek striker Apostolos Vellios from Iraklis Thessaloniki.

The former Everton man has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at The City Ground and arrives following a successful 2015-16 season in which he found the net 11 times for Iraklis in the Greek Super League.

Vellios began his career with Iraklis, making his debut for the club in 2009, and his first goal for his hometown side was a memorable one as he scored a last-minute equaliser against Olympiacos.

His impressive performances attracted attention from a number of clubs around Europe but it was Everton who secured his services in January 2011. He found the net in his second game for the Toffees against Wigan in September of that year before scoring against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge a month later.

Despite being named Everton’s Young Player of the Year in May 2012 and having enjoyed a brief loan spell with Blackpool, Vellios made the move to Belgian side Lierse at the end of the 2013-14 campaign in search of more first-team football.

He made an instant impact once again, scoring a last-minute equaliser away at Standard Liege, but opportunities were at a premium and he spent the second half of the season on loan at Danish side Vestsjaelland where he scored three goals.

A move home to Iraklis last season appeared to provide Vellios with a significant confidence boost and he scored a hat-trick in their 3-0 win over Kalloni in January to add to the winner he netted against Panathinaikos earlier in the campaign.[/article]

He brings European experience with him to St. James' Park, having featured in the Champions League for Gent last season, and he arrives on Tyneside having kept 18 clean sheets during his final campaign at the Ghelamco Arena.

Rafa Benitez said: "I am really pleased to welcome Matz to the club. He's a fantastic goalkeeper and many top clubs have been interested in signing him.

"Obviously we have injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot which could be difficult for us in the first part of the season, so it was important to strengthen in this area to be sure we can make a strong start in the Championship."

Sels added: "I'm very pleased - I'm very happy to be here. In Belgium, Newcastle is a really big club, and that's why I chose Newcastle.

"As soon as Newcastle showed their interest in me, and I spoke to the coach, Rafa Benitez, it was an easy decision to make."[/article]

He featured on 40 occasions for the Terriers in 2015/16 as a left-sided centre-half, scoring two goals.

CmMxx3zXIAA66Ab.jpg

[article]Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Claude Puel as its new First Team Manager.

The 54 year-old, who has agreed a three-year contract with Saints, takes charge ahead of the first team’s return to training on 1st July.

The appointment of Puel follows an extensive search for the right manager to continue the club’s progression in recent years.

Puel will be joined at Southampton by Eric Black, who has been appointed Assistant First Team Manager, and Pascal Plancque, who will become the club’s First Team Assistant Coach.

Dave Watson has signed a new deal with the club to remain as part of Puel’s backroom staff, while Sammy Lee has departed. The club would like to thank Sammy for his efforts during his time at St Mary’s.

Frenchman Puel makes the switch to the Premier League following a successful spell with OGC Nice in France, in which he guided Les Aiglons to a fourth-placed finish last season in Ligue 1.

Puel, who spent his entire playing career with Monaco, making over 500 appearances in all competitions, moved into management with the club he had been with for 17 seasons as a player in 1999.

After guiding Monaco to the Ligue 1 title in 2000, he spent six seasons with Lille before joining Olympique Lyonnais in 2008. Puel helped Lyon to their first ever Champions League semi-final in 2010, then going on to spend four seasons with Nice before departing in the summer.

Executive Director of Football Les Reed said: “The process to appoint a new First Team Manager has been diligent and meticulous. In order to ensure we appointed a manager who would meet our needs as a club, feedback from the dressing room, as well as taking account of our culture, vision and values, was critical in drawing up our criteria for the appointment.

“As the process eliminated a number of excellent candidates, Claude clearly came out on top of a very impressive shortlist. We have not only got the best man, but the right coaching team to support him.

“Eric Black has an excellent pedigree as a coach and vast experience domestically and internationally. Pascal Plancque has an excellent record as a technical coach and, like Claude, has been responsible for developing many young French talents into top quality players.

“The development of our young Academy players and delivering a pathway to the first team is key to the role. We were keen to appoint a coaching team who would also work closely with Martin Hunter and Radhi Jaïdi in accelerating the development of our youngsters, as well as developing our current first-team squad as individuals and as a team.

“We have an excellent group of first-team players who are keen to take another step forward. There is already a confidence and excitement in the building as some of the squad has returned for testing and they are in great shape.

“Claude has a fantastic platform to work from and is aware that our ambition is to repeat and improve on our performances in the Premier League over the past three seasons.

“Claude has a track record of improving the situations he has been presented with and we are confident he can repeat this at Southampton.

“His Champions League and European experience will be valuable in our Europa League challenge this coming season and with the support of our excellent staff at the club I am sure he will do well.

“We are once again excited about what the new season will bring, and we will continue to chase records as we have done in recent years.”[/article]

“I've been shown around the training ground and I thought the facilities and the plans for the future we excellent so it made me want to come here even more.”

Thomas appeared twice on the substitutes’ bench in the Sky Bet Championship last season for Bolton Wanderers against Hull City and Cardiff City.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Loftus Road, after Rangers agreed an undisclosed fee with the Bees for his signature.

Left-back Bidwell, who skippered Brentford in the Championship last term, expressed his delight at putting pen to paper in W12, telling www.qpr.co.uk: “I just felt now was a good time for me to move on from Brentford – and QPR felt like the right fit.

He added: “I feel I can go on and improve as a player here and take my game to the next level, so that’s something I’m excited about.

“I think this is a real statement for us in terms of attracting a really solid, dependable Championship player, who had his pick of other clubs at this level.

“There was a lot of interest in him from elsewhere and the fact he has chosen to join us speaks volumes of what we are trying to do here.

“When we spoke about what we are looking to do at QPR, he instantly bought into our philosophy.”

Hasselbaink added: “I want my defenders to defend first and foremost, but I always want them to go both ways and Jake certainly does that.

“He’s already a very solid and experienced defender, but I firmly believe he can keep improving and I’m confident he will grow as a player here.

[article]Ronald Koeman has made goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg his first signing as manager of Everton.

The Dutchman, 33, moves to Goodison Park on three-year contract after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Fulham.

The transfer sees Stekelenburg reunited with Koeman for a third time in his playing career.

“I’m very happy - things have moved very fast over the last couple days,” Stekelenburg told evertontv.

“He [Koeman] has come to Everton and he called me a few days after asking if I was willing to follow him. It wasn’t difficult to make that choice.

“He’s one of the best coaches - he’s straight talking, he’s fair and he has confidence in me which counts as well.

“I’ve been here [in England] for a couple of seasons and I love the Premier League. It’s fantastic that I can stay.”

Manager Koeman added: “Obviously I know Maarten well having worked with him at two clubs before.

“I know through his professionalism, hardworking approach and personality he will fit in well with what I will be building at Everton.”

Stekelenburg first worked under the new Everton boss at Ajax, winning the Eredivisie title in 2004 as a 21-year-old.

Capped 54 times with the Netherlands, the stopper appeared in the 2010 World Cup final against Spain.

He spent almost a decade at Ajax, in which time he won another Dutch top-flight title in 2011, as well as collecting three KNVB Cup winner’s medals.

A switch to Roma followed in 2011 and after two years in the Italian capital, he then moved to the Premier League with Fulham.

Stekelenburg spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Monaco and last season linked up with Koeman again at Southampton, on a season-long deal.

He played in a total of 25 games in his year with the Saints, prior to signing in at Goodison Park.[/article]

The 26-year-old Polish international midfielder (38 caps) has just played in the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2016 with his national team.

Trained at the Girondins de Bordeaux youth academy, Grzegorz Krychowiak’ professional career took off with Stade de Reims before signing for Sevilla FC in 2014 where he played under the direction of Unai Emery, whom he now rejoins at Paris Saint-Germain.

In two seasons in Spain, the Polish international continued his progression, winning two consecutive UEFA Europa League titles (2015, 2016) and playing in the final of the Copa del Rey against FC Barcelona, last May.

“I am very proud to return to France and defend the colours of a club as ambitious as Paris Saint-Germain, explained Grzegorz Krychowiak after signing his contract at the club’s headquarters. Michy Batshuayi - Chelsea (reportedly £33.2 million)
CmcghooWYAAJV7e.jpg

[article]Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Michy Batshuayi has today completed his transfer from Marseille.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract.

A powerful, fast striker, the highly coveted Batshuayi moves to Stamford Bridge having developed a reputation as a fine finisher following spells in France and Belgium. Skilful and with the ability to beat opposing defenders with his quick feet, he is a threat in the air and also comfortable holding the ball up and linking the play.

He was part of the Belgium squad at Euro 2016 and netted with his first touch on his tournament debut last Sunday, converting a cross from his new Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard in a 4-0 win over Hungary.

Batshuayi said: ‘I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career. I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge.

‘Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.’

Born in Brussels, Batshuayi played youth football across Belgium before beginning his professional career at Standard Liege in 2011, making his first-team debut for the club aged 18.

His first goal was an important one, the winner away at Copenhagen in the 2011/12 Europa League and a strike which sent Standard Liege through to the knockout rounds of the competition.

After scoring a brace in a Belgian Cup tie a week later, Batshuayi’s first league goal came in a 6-1 win over Germinal, but if his first season featuring regularly was predominantly about integration and adaptation, his second was one of real progression as the youngster began to find the net on a more consistent basis and became an important member of the side.

Batshuayi’s fast-growing reputation was enhanced further during the 2013/14 campaign when he finished as the second-highest scorer in the Belgian league, as well as hitting his first professional hat-trick in a 4-2 win against Oostende.

It was no surprise when Marseille came calling, and Batshuayi made the switch to Ligue 1 in the summer of 2014, making his debut as a replacement for Dimitri Payet on the first day of the season, before opening his account in a League Cup match against Rennes.

During his maiden campaign at the Stade Velodrome the youngster was used mainly as an impact substitute, but his ability to affect the game was evident on more than one occasion. Away at St-Etienne, Batshuayi scored twice within five minutes of coming on in a 2-2 draw, and another brace followed in a 4-0 win over Lens after he was introduced at the break. His goals that season contributed to Marseille qualifying for the Europa League.

His year-on-year improvement continued into his final season in France. He led the line impressively and once again displayed his clinical eye for goal. October was a particularly prolific month as he scored in every league game, including one away at Paris Saint-Germain when he stole in behind former Chelsea defender David Luiz to head home.

By the mid-season break only Zlatan Ibrahimovic had scored more goals, and Batshuayi ended the campaign by hitting four in the final six league matches, as well as netting in the French Cup final against PSG.

In total he scored 23 goals last season as well as providing 10 assists, statistics made all the more impressive considering he was playing in a team which finished 13th in Ligue 1.

Batshuayi was handed his international debut in March 2015 and scored shortly after replacing Christian Benteke in a 5-0 win over Cyprus. He was also on target for the Red Devils in a friendly win over Italy as they built towards Euro 2016.

He follows in the footsteps of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba as a centre-forward moving to Stamford Bridge from Marseille, and becomes the third Belgian in the squad, joining Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.[/article]

“I’ve been lucky enough to work under some amazing coaches during my career and I hope to use the elements of everything I’ve learned from them as well as my own playing career to help City achieve success.

“I am now looking forward to the challenge ahead at Manchester City. The opportunity to join Pep Guardiola and his team was an amazing opportunity for me and I am incredibly excited for the future.”

[article]Leicester City can today (Sunday) confirm that we have reached agreement with OGC Nice for the transfer of Nampalys Mendy, subject to Premier League and FA approval.

Nampalys, 24, has agreed terms on a four-year contract and will become Leicester City’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Ron-Robert Zieler and Luis Hernandez.

Speaking to LCFC.com, Mendy said: “I am very happy to come to Leicester City. The team have just enjoyed a great season and it’s excellent to be here. For me I want to play at this level. I like the Premier League and I follow every match. It’s fast and physical and I want to impose myself on the league.

“I know the coach (Claudio Ranieri), I know his mentality and I know his philosophy. When he speaks it’s direct and clear and for me I like this."

A central midfielder regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in France, Mendy last season helped guide Nice to an impressive fourth-placed finish in Ligue 1, playing in every game.

He started his career with AS Monaco, playing a key role in helping the club win promotion to Ligue 1 under Claudio Ranieri during the 2012/13 campaign, before moving to Nice as a free agent that summer.

In total Mendy has appeared 200 times for Nice across three seasons, during which he helped them improve to 17th, 11th and fourth placed finishes across those campaigns – as well as Europa League qualification last term.

An energetic and combative presence in the middle of the park, Mendy will add competition to City’s already talented central midfield contingent.

The opportunity to work with Ranieri came during a breakthrough season for Mendy who, at the age of just 20, made 36 appearances under the Italian as a resurgent Monaco won the Ligue 2 title in 2013.

Such early promise and poise earned him international recognition with France at Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels.[/article]

[article]Preston North End have completed the permanent signing of Ben Pringle for an undisclosed fee from Fulham.

The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Deepdale, after a year in London with the Cottagers.

The Newcastle-born left-sided midfielder started his career in his native north east, before a move to Derby County and then onto Rotherham United, where he made over 150 appearances for the Millers in four years, scoring 22 goals and being named in the PFA League One team of the year in their 2013/14 promotion season.

He is North End’s seventh summer signing, following the arrivals of Chris Maxwell, Simon Makienok, Anders Lindegaard, Eoin Doyle, Callum Robinson and Tommy Spurr.

Santiago Vergini - Boca Juniors
Cmh_r4RWcAA93VE.jpg

[article]Boca Juniors have completed the signing of Santiago Vergini, despite raising concerns about the defender’s Achilles.

Manager Sam Allardyce will need to sell unwanted players to give him maximum room for manoeuvre in this summer’s transfer market, and the Argentinian is the first to leave.

The deal had been in doubt on Friday when Vergini’s medical revealed a long-standing problem with his heel.

But rather than use it to barter down the price, Boca instead reduced the contract on offer to the player from three years to one. Vergini agreed to the revised terms, and trained with his new team-mates on Monday.

It brings to an end an odd Sunderland career which saw the versatile defender spend 18 months on loan at the Stadium of Light, then join permanently once they decided they no longer wanted him.

During Vergini’s second loan from Estudiantes, which was for the whole of the 2014-15, a clause was activated which obliged the Black Cats to buy him for £2m. The problem was, then-coach Dick Advocaat did not want the player, signed by Gustavo Poyet. Neither did his successor Allardyce.

The Wearsiders loaned Vergini on to Spanish side Getafe, who were again obliged to make the move permanent this summer. That clause, however, was rendered null and void when Getafe were relegated from La Liga.

Vergini was signed primarily as a central defender but looked most comfortable in English football as a right-back. Capped three times by Argentina, he made 51 appearances for Sunderland.

Boca play against Independiente in the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores on Thursday.

Of all the South American players Uruguayan Poyet brought to the Stadium of Light, he could be said to have been easily the most successful, although the bar was set pretty low.

Allardyce will hope Vergini is not the only defender to move on as he looks to revamp his squad. With Wes Brown and Valentin Roberge released at the end of last season, they will encourage Bristol City’s interest in Adam Matthews and will be open to offers for Billy Jones. Sebastian Coates’ six-month loan to Sporting Lisbon has been extended by another year, after which time the Portuguese giants will have to decide on a permanent transfer.[/article]

Glenn Murray - Brighton & Hove Albion (loan)
gm-l229-3165509_613x460.jpg

[article]Glenn Murray is back at Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.

The 32-year-old striker, whose goals helped fire the club to the League One title in 2011, will link up with his new team-mates for the pre-season training camp in Tenerife.

Albion manager Chris Hughton said, “We are delighted that Glenn is joining us and that we have managed to secure someone of his experience and ability for the new season.

“Everyone at the club, and the supporters, know what Glenn will offer us. He is a real attacking presence who can lead the line, he’s powerful in the air, and his goalscoring record speaks for itself.

“He is a different type of striker to those we have got at the club already and will give us an extra option going forward.

“Most importantly he knows the Championship well, he knows how to score goals at this level and what it takes to get out of this division.

“The move has been a long time in the making and the recruitment department has done an excellent job to finally get the deal over the line.

“He is a proven goalscorer and an excellent addition to the squad.”

Murray began his career at Carlisle United, where he graduated through their youth set-up before eventually earning a move to Rochdale following a successful loan spell at Spotland.

A total of 26 goals in 60 appearances for the League Two side fired Murray into the spotlight, and prompted then-Albion boss Dean Wilkins to sign him in January 2008 for a fee of £300,000.

He went on to make 136 appearances in his first spell, scoring 56 times – including 22 goals in the 2010/11 campaign when Albion clinched the League One championship.

He left the club that summer to join Crystal Palace on a free transfer, eventually helping the Eagles to gain promotion into the Premier League with a stunning 31-goal haul in the 2012/13 season.

Murray has since enjoyed a loan spell with Reading, before signing for Bournemouth for £4million in September 2015.

He boasts an impressive career record in front of goal, averaging a goal every three matches. [/article]
