Anyone watching this? Missed the first 25 minutes or so of the Mexico - Portugal game; the remainder of the first half has been entertaining. 1 - 1 now with a pair of well-taken goals by Quaresma and Hernandez.

I'm interested to see how Diego Reyes, the Mexico centre back (no. 5) does. He played for Espanyol last season, on loan from Porto. Showed good pace in the first half when he reacted quickly and raced 20 yards or so to close down Ronaldo, who had a head start after capitalizing on the Mexican right fullback's mistake in judging a high ball. Portugal still scored on that possession though, because the rest of the defenders fell asleep and allowed Ronaldo a pass to the unmarked Quaresma, who coolly shuffled the ball and let Ochoa slide past before slotting home.

Whoever is directing the camera work in this game needs to get a fucking clue. They're switching too often to closeups when a team is attacking, so you end up watching a lot more of the one-on-one situations between an attacker and defender instead of the overall development of the action. Does my head in.

Finished 2-2. Good game. Gelson Martins is pacy; his cut back from the touch line was blocked in the box, and Soares followed up to score and restore Portugal's lead. Had a chance himself later on to make it safe but the ball was played behind him and I thought he did very well to make the most of it and put the ball just wide. Reyes ended up at RB for Mexico after Salceido came off after about 65 minutes. Didn't do much offensively, was pretty decent defensively.

Didn't watch the entire game but not bad from Mexico. They were coming straight from Concacaf qualifiers and did not have time to acclimatize to the time difference also.

The state of Australia's national team...
They had a decent generation once with players in Europe's top leagues.
Now it's just crap.

I wish Australia would take a leaf out of Tony Pulis' playbook, sit back, stay compact and spoil the game, so that we can see how the Germans pierce two banks of four or five. Right now, the Socceroos are playing for a cricket score.
