Comparison with last year

We all know things haven't gone well thus far, with us having only 5 points after 5 games.

If you compare this years results with last years, you need to remove West Brom because we didn't play them and you're left with:

Utd away - 0 points
City away - 1 point
Arsenal home - 0 points
Birmingham away - 1 point

2 points.

And we got two points from those games this season too.

and............. It's bollocks comparing this seasons results against lasts, it means fuck all. We have made a poor start to the season, end of.

The point of sacking Rafa was to improve on 7th place and get back amongst the top 4.

We're already on the backfoot. 5 points after 5 games is unacceptable. We need a massive turnaround and quickly!

I'm aware of that. Just adding some perspective.

Without question we need to do better, but too many of us are writing off Roy's chances of achieving that far too early. And I say that as someone who didn't want him appointed in the first place.

16 13 3 Liverpool 5 1 2 2 4 7 -3 5

Played 5 scored 4 Against 7 Points 5 THATS what counts, and its fucking terrible, not even mentioning we are in 16th.

Played Away 3:

Points 1 from a possible 9:

There lies our 'steadying hand' He does just what it says in his CV, and thats 'Doesn't win away'

Wrong.

Of course WHO you played those 3 matches against counts. it's plainly inane to discount it.

It's a bad start to the season regardless of who the opposition have been.

And using last seasons results as perspective only serves to make things worse.

so we're doing just as well as in our worst season for 11 years....yaaaaaayyyy!!!!

fucking brilliant observation rosco!

Christ, do we have to split into two camps over something as simple as this? The results are bad, and the performances have been, if anything, even worse - so I'm not doing a Tompkins here. But if you asked anyone objective (eg a bookmaker) what results they expected us to get in those first five games, I'm pretty sure they'd have said

Arsenal (H) draw
City (A) loss
WBA (H) win
Birmingham (A) draw
United (A) loss

... and strangely enough, that's exactly what we've done. Doesn't mean it's acceptable, or a positive sign, or any of that bollocks, but it's hardly unexpected either, is it? We're the 6th best team in the league, on paper (if you assume Villa have gone backwards, having lost Milner and O'Neill), and we've had a very tough start.

You did thanks Ros.

Yes, and as someone pointed out, it's maybe 5 points difference between here and 4th.

BUT, and it's a big BUT, Roy doesn't have the team playing in any kind of a way that resembles a team that's about to jump up the table. No-one can dispute this surely.

How many points were you anticipating from our games Vs Arsenal, Citeh, Birmingham and United?

Chelsea so far have played-

Home Blackpool - W

Away West Ham - W

Home Stoke - W

Away Wigan - W

Home West Brom - W

As another wee comparison heres our results against those sides LAST year (I'll replace Blackpool and West Brom with Hull and Burnley who went down as a rough comparison)

Home Burnley - Won 4-0

Away West Ham - Won 3-2

Home Stoke - Won 4-0

Away Wigan - Lost 1-0

Home Hull - Won 6-1

Yeah yeah i know it means nothing and all but the point is we would be in a different position had we played the games they have which include 2 PROMOTED teams, and probably 5 of the bottom 7 for this year.

I wish our start had been a bit easier to give a fairer reflection on where we are. The dark side clouds everything.

That said we should be better off. Im not making excuses, we should be going out to beat Birmingham regardless of past history.
And 4-4-2 was a mess at City and we should have changed it early doors.

We have had a very difficult start to the season it wil also take a good few games to settle in and get used to uncle Roy but I still think we are lookin at 5/6th spot this season

Exactly so.

That cuts through the mental bandwagon hysteria like a hot knife through butter.

i think the point is that last year was meant to have been a massive underachivement, given that almost the same side had finished 2nd with 86 points less than 18 months ago, and that that was largely down to rafa having gone mental.

if our expectations with the same side but with roy instead of a lost-the-plot benitez are exactly the same...well, that doesn't exactly say a lot for old man wiver does it?

Also as ANOTHER wee comparison our 'top 4' rivals have so far dropped points to -
FULHAM - (United)
SUNDERLAND - (Arsenal)
EVERTON - (United)
WEST BROM - (Spurs)
WIGAN - (Spurs)
BLACKBURN - (Man City)
SUNDERLAND - (Man City)
BOLTON - (Villa)
STOKE - (Villa)
NEWCASTLE - (Villa)

So maybe dropping points to Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City and Birmingham isnt as bad as we think, being as ALL those sides were top 10 last year (3 of them top 5)

For the record with the exception of Everton (United) every other one of those teams that our 'rivals' have already slipped up against were either A)Bottom Half last year or B)In a different division last year.

SOOOoooooooo Yeah just shut up really ffs.

If Hodgson equals Rafa's results last year he'll be a failure as well.

a good point and talking of points the point is our problem has not been dropping points to top four teams that has been the issue in recent years, its dropping points to the shite teams that has cost us.
There is no point in grinding out a hard earned draw against United Arsenal of Chelsea and then draw with fucking Hull, Stoke, the next week etc etc .

regards

Scary thought.

We're 10 points behind, yes 10 fucking points behind the leaders and it ain't even October.

[/quote]

and we have played 3 games against top 5 teams from last season aswell as a birmingham side who is amazing at home. Chelsea have played relegation teams or there abouts so its stupid to compare until the tables are turned and chelsea play what we have and we play what they have

It doesnt matter if we're 10 points behind Chelsea because it will be almost impossible to win the league this year. We should be looking at how many points we're off third or fourth.
