What about big Samba at Blackburn. Hes mint i reckon.
If Cahill is too pricey (over 15m) i think Samba would be well good.
Anyone?

He's OK, but I'm not convinced he's absolute top quality, whereas I reckon Cahill is.

Yeah my thoughts too, I do like him though.

I've only seen him a few times, but he's been quite impressive every time I've seen him. Probably not enough to judge him, but I do think he is underrated.

No... too fragile for a big man.

he has played 30+ premier league games every season since the 2007/08.

I like him because he is dominant in the air and a tireless worker. But I am not sure he would fit into our playing style. Nor do I think he is that adept at reading the play which is more important for a team that holds possession as opposed to Rovers who are usually under pressure for most of the game. He has been used as a rather successful back up striker for Rovers too. I wanted him last summer because he would have represented great value for money and would have been the commanding CB we need, but I don't think it would be the right move now. We should either go for proven quality and be willing to pay the premium to get it, or go for an up and coming star that might need to develop a little to become the commanding CB we need; Sakho?

I like Cahill and Samba is almost on the level but Vincent Kompany is the kind of player we should be looking to buy.

Great, we should be looking to buy a player from the richest team in the world that surely will see us as rivals now.

How's Shawcross done this season?

12 months ago, Cahill and Shawcross were very much being talked about as players of a similar level. Cahill has since become flavour of the month despite some recent below-par performances, whilst Stoke's recent run of good form has not raised Shawcross' profile in the media.

On another note, Kelly is surely a CB of the future. Given his instant impact at fullback when stepped up, why not stick him straight in alongside Carra and watch him grow?
