Cole

So does anybody really believe we can sell him (i.e. get some money for him) to someone who'll also have to pay him the crazy wages we're paying him (and will for 3 more seasons)?
The best we can hope for is offloading him for free and getting him off our pay bills (or at least most of his wages) or keep him and hope that he manages to revive his career and stay fit, giving us some value for the money we're paying him.

Depends how keen the player himself is on the move. If he really wants to go he'll moderate his wage demands, in which case yes, we could get a fee.

to be honest it's not the end of the world if cole stays, he is a good option to have and his initial few months here was marred by suspension and injuries. yes, he is on high wages but there wasn't a transfer fee.

Y1 : you were conscripted into 2nd Platoon pursuant to instructions given by General Oncy

Doc : I'm partial to Spirit of Dumbledore, myself.

QPR have offered to match his wages so maybe we can sell him. I wouldn't count Harry out with a sneaky swop deal for Spurs RM formerly of Pompey.

Haha, someone should post that Hodgson "Joe Cole has a weak mentality" interview for comparison
[/quote]

"He isn't a naturally confident character. He suffers when things aren't going his way. Everyone at the club has worked hard to make sure he doesn't take it too hard and take too much on himself, because he's quite happy to take responsibility."

Hodgson commented, "He knows he is better than that and he knows he can do better than that.

"He sets himself high standards and I'm sure he came off the field feeling it was not the performance he wanted to give.

"Players like Joe play on very small margins."

"I think he has got to do it on the field of play," Hodgson said, according to The Mirror.

"With all the best will in the world, people can be in support or not in support, some will say he's not doing it, and some will say he's unlucky because he's not playing in the right position.

"But I don't have any truck with that. Joe is a midfield player, and what's the right position for a midfield player? Gerrard has played all over midfield for as long as I can remember.

"Joe has to come to terms with the fact that he has come here after an unsuccessful period at Chelsea with high hopes of taking Liverpool by storm and unfortunately it's not happened. That's life.

"He should have great confidence in his ability as he is a very good footballer. As far as I am concerned, everything he has to say should be said on that patch of green grass.

"He should be convincing me and everyone watching that this is a player who can help Liverpool win things. And I think you couldn't say that has been the case so far."

The Reds have a busy schedule through Christmas and New Year, and the manager now wants Cole to use the opportunity to prove himself.

"He'll get plenty of chances because we'll need everybody. I have not lost faith in him in any way. He is a good footballer. But you can't deny the start he wanted has not materialised," Hodgson added.

"I don't care how many things are written or said, you can't make black into white. But he is training well, it seems to me that his confidence is gradually returning and all Joe needs is a couple of good games or maybe a goal and that could turn things around for him.

"You'll have to ask him what isn't working. If he says, the only place he can play is behind the striker, he is limiting his chances of playing here. We also have Gerrard and Meireles who can play in that position, and we also have a situation where at the moment quite often we are playing with two strikers.

"I would be sad to hear him saying something like that, because he would be suggesting he can't do what he has done so often in the past for England and Chelsea, which is playing in a different position."

There had been suggestions that the ex-West Ham midfielder was not one of Hodgson's signings, but the boss maintained that he did play a part in bringing the player to Anfield.

However, Hodgson also insisted that Cole was not promised any specific position prior to his arrival.

He added: "I played my part in persuading him it was a good move, but I made it clear I couldn't promise him a certain position. I made it very clear Steven Gerrard was staying, and the competition for the one spot, if it was the one spot he wanted, it was going to be very tough.

"He's not so much a player I can really take responsibility for. I'd have to share the responsibility for Joe, but I have every faith in his ability, and I'm sure he'll come good."

Yes, and just a few weeks earlier he said this (before he slagged him off - nice one!):

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that Joe Cole is struggling with his confidence levels.

The former Chelsea star has endured a difficult time at Anfield since moving to the Reds in the summer, being sent off on his debut and now struggling to recover from injury.

Hodgson said:"He isn't a naturally confident character. He suffers when things aren't going his way. Everyone at the club has worked hard to make sure he doesn't take it too hard and take too much on himself, because he's quite happy to take responsibility.

"I'm always wary of answering about people's mental state. It's difficult enough to judge them physically. But one thing is certain is that Joe's desperate to show what he can do.

"Because of where he plays, he is one who plays with small margin and then of course the risk of failure is even greater. For some they can get success just by booting the ball away, but Joe can't do it in the position he plays in.

"I don't know how frustrated he's been. He'd obviously have liked to hit the ground running but it's not been possible, largely because of injuries.

"But he's a long time with us, a long contract and we know what he's capable of doing. The sooner he produces it of course the better for me, but there is no pressure on him in that respect. He is a quality player who will come good."

Didn't he start with a clean sheet this season?

That's not what he's saying. Let's face it his copy was blotted within the first game & things have gotten no better.

Next season we could see a better Cole that's for sure.

Kenny seems to rate Cole and every player deserves a chance. TBF he hasn't had many chances because of injuries, suspension and form.

Form is temporary and class is permanent but Joe has it all to prove.

Tottenham will revive their interest in Joe Cole just 12 months after he rejected a move to White Hart Lane and completed a free transfer to Liverpool.

Cole’s decision to move to Merseyside has been a disaster as injury and an alarming loss of form has wiped out his campaign.

He will have to lick his wounds and take a substantial pay cut to return to London while Liverpool will demand at least £5million to cover the £100,000 a week they were paying Cole.

Cole has confided to close friends that he may have made a mistake joining Liverpool and would welcome a reunion with Redknapp who previously managed him at West Ham.

That's just fine with me.
I guess I'm just one of the few that don't believe the hype and I don't believe he wasn't given a shot during the season. Aquilani was fucked off for his sake IMO and it was a terrible decision by Hodgson.
Cole will never be a good enough player for us.

Bring on the haters.
