Thinks he owns the place

@footballuruguay: Liverpool FC have reportedly been offered €4m by AC Milan for the services of Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates.

We paid 7M for potential after his breakthrough. Since then he's spent 2 years sitting on our bench and has achieved fuck all - why should anyone give us our money back?

Ken's right. We've stifled the lads development and barely played the cunt. He's worth a lot less now as no one actually knows how good he is any more

Shame. I still think he'll turn out good.

I don't think we've stifled his development at all. Granted maybe we should have played him instead of Carragher but all that says to me is he wasn't good enough to usurp an ageing CB. never rated him, he looks too lethargic and not commanding enough.

We've stopped him getting regular games for 2 years. We've stifled his development.

Whether he developed into anything decent is a side issue.

Point is, we can't expect to get what we paid when no one knows how good he is

I think he's got alot of ability, he does look docile as fuck though, but he's one of those that could end up great, or the next Igor.

We didn't know how good he was when we signed him either, that's why the fee was low in the first place.

Off the back of young player of the tournament in the copa

Yes he's definitely not as exciting a signing now, but in some ways more sensible: a couple of years older, adapted to life abroad, that sort of thing. I think £5m or so would be fair for him.

Well yeah, and I don't think anyone could really blame Kenny for going for him (well, apart from Ryan, obv), when you think we've spent similar on Agger and Skrtel, we've had a reasonably good return from their outlay, it can't work out everytime, the potential was there.

For once I would like us to fuck Milan over for the Aquilani debacle.

Whether we stunted Coates growth or not is a side issue.

That may all be true. But if you're going to invest 7M in a youth player, particularly a defender from South America, you can't just discard him if we doesn't immediately walk into the side and look like he's been here all his life. Young players need games. Would Courtois be worth what he is today if Chelsea had've just kept him hanging around the club playing the odd cup game here and there?

Some punts will pay off and others won't but it doesn't do anyone any good to have a 20 year old sitting on the bench / in the stands most weekends when they've got no clear path for progression or integration into the team. If he's not good enough straight away - loan him out and see if he progresses elsewhere.

Phil Babb was boss at a World Cup...
He was.

But we paid 7m for potential which we've not tried to realise. I don't see why people think we should ask for the same money back when he's 2 years older and not developed much further

Keni is spot on. He should have spent the last couple of seasons out on loan.
First to a Championship club to toughen him up and then to a lower tier Premier league club.

I'm not sure he's got the agression to succeed, but he would either have been ready to step up or have a higher sell on value if we had loaned him out.
