CL seeding / draw

poor Mo, travelled all the way to wherever they were, probably Switzerland and came home empty handed. What a waste of time.
They should just announce the winners beforehand.

I'm pretty sure they do, but that Mo was showing courtesy. Do you think greasy Ronaldo would have jibbed it off he thought he was winning it?

Only team I really didn't want was Atletico Madrid. Their style of football would perfectly negate ours, I fear.

Everyone else I'm fine with.

Yeah, the draw suits us quite well. I'm hoping the Serbian fans have been banned by the time we go there. There's every chance of it.

PSG and Napoli are both from utter fanny leagues. We didn't get any Spanish or Germans, we're going to have the group won by Christmas
I agree we'll win the group. Not sure we'll have it wrapped up by Xmas though ...

Exciting games but that's a proper group of death. This is going to put a big strain on the team given that we've already got a run of really tough games coming up.

It'd be amazing if we can do well in both competitions but if I had to prioritize, it'd be the league.

I think all the English clubs will get through - United may lose both games to Juve but I cannot see them losing to the other clubs - so possibly 2nd spot qualifiers, as for Spurs - I think too many people on here don't give them enough respect regarding their strengths - if they stay fit they will go through.

Regarding us - we need the front men to come alive - still waiting for that from our team.

Pretty happy with the draw, after all what's the point of qualifying for the Champions League just to face pub teams from bum fuck nowhere?

Didn't realise Ancelloti was managing Napoli now, that makes them a slightly more threatening than I thought initially but I think we're topping this group. Would love to see us and Napoli fuck PSG off to the Europa League.

Should be some good games in this group.

I can really see PSG not making it through the group and ending up in the Europa League. That would be fucking glorious.

Which ones will be the trickiest? Last season we only won 1 out of 6 league games following CL group stage games. We need to find a way to drastically improve on that.

I would seriously consider sending out almost a 2nd team to Napoli away – it's not a must-win, but the league games before and after are (at least must not-lose). Obviously it would not be anything like Rodgers against Madrid selection – our squad is much deeper now, so going with, say, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Clyne and Lallana would obviously be not the same as playing a bunch of kids against Real. I don't mean to change 11 players, but would definitely try to save a few key players for City.

Southampton at home looks like a potential banana skin game – it will be hard to motivate players for that after Spurs and PSG. Merseyside derby after PSG away looks ill-timed for us, just like the derbies last season. We know that midfield will be heavily rotated throughout the season, but now that the fixture list is out, Klopp may also start thinking about creating something like a "2nd attacking unit" that has enough quality and cohesion to allow the first team attackers some rest at crucial times.

Jesus Rurik (re. bolded bit at the bottom) .. are you drunk ? Realistically Napoli are the team we need to isolate from the Top 2 positions. Drawing away and winning at home (and PSG doing the same with them) would do that. Losing away would throw Napoli a lifeline to the Top 2. So don't agree with your consideration one little bit.

Awful draw and the squad will be stretched. We should focus on the league rather than spread ourselves too thinly over the coming months

I guess it's because I don't expect Napoli to get as many points as we can get vs PSG and Crvena Zvezda. In the last couple of seasons they drew and lost against the likes of Besiktas, Dynamo Kiev and Feyenoord; so far they have not demonstrated either the consistency to pick up the maximum points from the bottom sides or quality to hold their own against top sides (lost both games against City last season). So if we can get more points than Napoli does against the other 2 teams in the group, then beating them in the head-to-head match-up might not even be necessary.

If we can conjure up a tense away draw in Naples while resting some key players, that would be ideal, because we'll need to give 110% against both Chelsea and Man City in the league all within 8 days. I truly believe even our "2nd string" attack has enough quality to go to Naples with a decent chance to return unbeaten.

Although they lost a couple of players in the Summer they ran Juve practically to the wire. They also have players such as Koulibaly, Hamsik, Zielinski, Mertens and Insigne .. they are definitely not to be under-rated and I'm almost certain Klopp won't. They've started this season with an away win at Lazio and a home win to a rejuvenated AC Milan. That said we will have no option but to rotate a couple of players in/out but I'm sure we'll be putting out a strong team especially so because it's only the second game in the group.

I am not denying they were very strong in the league last season - I’ve watched quite a few of their games. But in Europe it’s been different; I think they are still working on building up that European pedigree. Perhaps Ancelotti can take them to the next level in that respect, but he had seemed to be losing his touch lately.

Repost.

Let's not forget Napoli won their opening two games and even against Sampdoria they edged possession and had 18 (4) shots to Sampdoria's 9 (3), with Sampdoria scoring two worldies. Sometimes it just goes against you regardless.

I hope they are as shit as when we played them in pre-season but I wouldn't be putting money on it. THey are still going to be the team chasing Juve for the Scudetto.

Napoli is a horrible ground to try to get anything at, & that's without the whole off the field shit carrying over from 2010 (the retribution for the retribution!) which means the atmosphere will be even more intense.

I'm more confident of getting points at PSG cos they'll still want to come attack us whereas I suspect Napoli will play the same way home & away & force us to break them down.
