If it's about having the best chance to get to the final, then it's definitely Roma.
But I'd hate it if we go to the final only to lose to fucking Real.
So I want Real, if it makes any sense.

That's my logic too. I think we have a better chance against Real or Bayern over the 2 legs than in the final. Let's slay one of the giants ourselves and root for Roma to get rid of the other one.

That and the fact that I can manage seeing Bayern or Roma winning but fucking Real?!

That's not logical at all. If those teams are higher rated than us, and they are of course, then surely over two legs it is they that have the advantage.

Anyway I'm not really that arsed, we've shown that we can both defend and score against anyone and probably Juve would have been a tougher ask considering how we both play. Maybe if I had to pick one NOT to play then it would be Bayern, simply because they have the best defence of the four teams and Lewandowski up front. Clearly Roma are the weakest though and so the obvious pick. We'd be better off facing Bayern or Real in a one off in the final.

Amazingly, I find myself in agreement here. Madrid have played so many finals that they can just perform at their normal level under that pressure situation. If we have to play Madrid I'd prefer it in the semis.

I want to avoid Bayern but confident we could take down either Roma or Real. At this point i'd want to ensure we get to the final so surely Roma preference, Real next. Would like Real to knock Bayern out as I think we could do them in a single leg. Heavy metal football!

I'd prefer Madrid over 2 legs. Roma or Munich, we could give either of them a proper bumming in a one off game.

I picked Real, pretty much just to see the results.

I think that Real will cheat no matter what so it's best to avoid them at all costs.

I don't want Roma...their keeper is having a stormer of a season.

Even the shit ones normally have amazing games against us.

Real play a more expansive game and we do well against teams like that...so over two legs I'd fancy our chances.

But it will be a tough ask regardless who we get...

Against Real, I'd be worried cos they have players would could hurt us, esp Ronaldo, even if we're playing at our best. I think we could beat them though.

Against Bayern, they have experience playing Klopp's sides which could be important. I think we could well beat them too though.

Against Roma, best side on paper, but playing with intense belief & spirit, plus are less likely to go for it & attack us as the other two sides will.

The more I think about it the more I think Modo is right (that sentence is all kinds of wrong). If we're gonna play Real I want to do it in the semi's, cos they'll likely be more dangerous in the final & in a two legged game we arguably stand a better chance against them.

Then there's the confidence thing, if we go into after beating Roma to face Bayern or Real I doubt the players will be as confident as they would be facing Roma or Bayern after turning over Real Madrid to do it.

For me the most important thing about the draw is will we play home or away first. Conventional wisdom has always favoured the home leg second but with this team I'd rather see us play the first leg at Anfield. We're so hitty-miss the tie could be over if the away leg is first and we play badly.

Plus there's a great potential advantage to playing the away leg second.

Away goals in extra time still count as away goals. So you potentially have an extra 30 minutes to get that all important away goal.

Plus, the way we play suits playing away against big sides imo, as (Mourinho's teams aside) they are more likely to come out & attack us than sit back.

P(beating Roma) = 60%
P(beating Bayern) = 40%
[bcolor=transparent]P(Roma beating Bayern) = 30%[/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent]P(Real beating Bayern) = 60%[/bcolor]
P(beating Real in semi) = 40%
[bcolor=transparent]P(beating Real in final) = 30%[/bcolor]

I presume you're happy with those odds. So now, to beat Roma in the semi and Real or Bayern in the final we have a 0.6 x (0.6 x 0.3) + 0.4 x (0.6 x 0.4) = 20.4% chance. To actively want to get real out of the way in the semi and then potentially face Roma or Bayern we have a [bcolor=transparent]0.3 x (0.4 x 0.6) + 0.7 x (0.4 x 0.4) = 18.4% chance[/bcolor]. In other words you and modo are wrong, it's much better to guarantee we face Roma at some stage rather than allow them to be knocked out and end up with two cunts of a tie.

I voted Madrid, for the reason some have mentioned. I know full well Roma is the much easier tie on paper.

Anyway, I don’t remember a single point in the last couple of decades when I actually felt confident we could destroy Real Madrid. I always thought we were very strong in Europe under Rafa, but I never wanted to face the big guns because we were always the underdogs, it was about discipline, keeping it tight, solid, and getting the odd goals. I know we ended up smashing a few teams including Madrid, but to me those were the exception to the rule.
Now, Klopp has me believing more than at any point since the 90’s. We are capable of destroying the best in Europe. Forget the criticism leveled at City at the moment. They have been the best side in Europe this season. We won’t be in for a harder test than against them, whoever we face.
I can’t believe Klopp’s only had us for 2.5 seasons. We are an amazing side.

Your math checks out. Of course you can statistically prove that we should avoid the best teams like cancer. But I never said anything about us having a better chance of beating Real over two games, I just said I don't want to lose against them in the final. Hence why I'd rather get it over with in the semi's.
