City and Chelsea stockpiling young talent

So today I found out that Chelsea wasn't gonna spend 50m+ on a new defender because they had found a decent one (a youth player) down the back of their sofa (Trevor Cholabah).

I'm just amazed how is it that Chelsea and City can just unearth youth players out of black holes, and then sometimes decide that they don't need them.

Norwich's Billy Gilmour is supposed to be one of the most exciting Scottish prospects for years and he can't even get in the Chelsea team. The amount of stockpiling that City and Chelsea do is amazing.

Do we need some regulations /limits on the amount of youth stockpiling a club can do?

Is called the Rix conveyor belt of grooming.

The Italians teams do it all the time, nearly all of he have around 10-15 mostly young players out on loan every season which they buy from lower Italian sides or from across Europe.

Chelsea do incredibly well with their academy, Chalobah is 1 of them, can’t really stop that. Mount James Hudson Odoi, I say fair play to them.

Was listening to a podcast and they mentioned that a lot of smaller teams are ditching their youth set ups and B teams. Then when one of the top teams are looking to offload/release youth players they can come into a first team squad having received top level coaching.

Think Brentford started it. Seems to be working.

Also Chelsea are based in London. I think they have a larger pool to pick from.

There are new rules recently introduced, I believe, around catchment areas, overseas youths and the amount of youths you can sign from other clubs, that are supposedly designed to stop stockpiling by the bigger teams.

I’d imagine it’ll be like FFP, and probably have the opposite effect.

Isn't City's sister clubs in the US, Spain, Australia a way around that. I think the RB franchises do the same thing.

I’m not sure to be honest - City picked up a “youth star” from Melbourne City a few years back - but he went straight out on loan and his career has tanked. City have sent the odd player to Melbourne on loan - but not good ones.

I always thought it might be more like some sort of money laundering scheme to get round FFP.

More likely it’s just to create a truly global recognisable “brand” like a footballing MacDonald’s - looks the same everywhere, with little tweaks to the local franchise.

Credit to them. It's genius.

Their kids are walking out of Cobham right into the first teams of PL teams.

Reece James, Patrick Bamford, Mount, Cheistensen, solanke, Brewster all from there too

Probably even more mental that they still have Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater on the wage bill

Its incredible really. Chelsea and City are basically creating their own market. So many others...Nathan Ake, Solanke other ones I just thought of as ex Chelsea youth players.

Drinkwater at least his his self promotion skills including adobe premiere pro must be getting better surely
