if he played for Liverpool i'd be very sad.

There seems to be a bandwagon against the fella growing.. just because he talks a little 'funny' and dances after he scores (which seem to rub people the wrong way, because only 'twats' dance after they score, right?; we need more Alan Shearer type celebrations).. hmmm. I can understand some Arsenal fans disliking him for his flirtation with Milan to get a better contract, but then that's just part and parcel of football.

Ultimately, the only thing that matters is what you do on the pitch, and he had an injury season last year and still got a respectable amount of goals. The only criticism i've got of him is he seems to disappear in some of the big games. Someone like Drogba (a proper cunt) seems to just bully defenders with his physical presence. Adebayor simply doesn't which was a shame for Arsenal because (I believe) he has/had a similar potential to Drogba, to play a big role at a top club.

...and the reported £2 million 'loyalty bonus' he thinks he deserves for not submitting a transfer request for the transfer to Man City.

How is Hughes going to manage all those forwards, especially not even having European football?

I actually feel a bit sorry for Bellamy and I'd have him back here if he was cheap

Not really.. Wenger plucked him from Monaco when no one knew who he was.. He kept on moaning and moaning especially in the last two seasons, dropping cheeky hints here and there about wanting to play somewhere else.. He has shown no gratitude at all whatsoever towards Wenger or Arsenal. I know all of this because my cousin is a gooner.

There's no bandwagon at all for me. I wouldn't mind seeing Torres dance, and Torres also talks a little 'funny'.. But everyone LOVES him..

I'm sorry if this is like ruining your whole "I'm holier than thou" agenda.

But he didn't submit a request so he does deserve it does he not? Was it not more that the fans wanted him out, so they sold him?

Does their Sheik own a stake in that Airline sponsor they've now got?

He didn't but the only people who deserve loyalty bonuses are the Gerrards, Carraghers, Terrys, Giggs', Scholes' and Maldini's of the game. It's a piss take, that's what it is.

I don't think Wenger's in a bother anyway 'cos he's got Eduardo back for the new season.

That's just standard procedure though for every transfer.

ANYONE who is sold without wanting a transfer and submitting a request usually gets a loyalty bonus payoff, irrespective of the type of player you think is entitled to it.

I don't buy this whole "Wenger made him, he should be a grateful little African" nonsense. Plenty of players have come to the Emirates and left because they simply don't get paid what they would elsewhere. Anelka, Overmars, Hleb, Flamini were all players that Wenger took a chance. Fair enough. But once they HAD repaid his faith with good performances, they naturally wanted a better contract which reflected their worth to the team.

Arsenal, being Arsenal, drag their feet and don't seem to want to pay these players what they could so easily get elsewhere. I suppose by your logic, he should just be happy with his 30k contract, even though Arsenal, the club, are raking in MILLIONS based off the team's performances and players of lesser ability are getting more money at smaller teams. No, for me, he doesn't owe Wenger anything more than his best effort and performance on the field. Wenger is his manager, not his Dad.

P.s. all this 'agenda' stuff you've created is just meaningless shoe leather to me. I'm not one to get involved in that sort of thing, thanks. Lets keep it on football.

Adebayor was already known at Anfield prior to signing for Arsenal... for diving his way through a Champions League game at Anfield with some French team.

Why do you keep making reference to the fact that he's foreign Ibro? Do you think people are being xenophobic in some way here?

I don't think the bad reputation he has originates from the fact that he's African or foreign in general, it's just that he's seen to be a bit of an arrogant tosser. The Arsenal fans certainly don't seem to like him.

No Keni, I don't think people on this forum have an issue (perhaps, the Press).. and i actually disagree that the bad-will is because he's an "arrogant tosser"? Where do people/you get that from? All his interviews I've seen (not the written tabloid ones), but the one's where I actually see his mouth moving, he comes across as a decent, grounded, level-headed person.
Half of my family are Arsenal fans and from what I can glean, I think the real reason why Arsenal fans seem to have a problem with him is that they buy into this notion that "Wenger made him and ergo, he owes Arsenal everything". I guess that's what bothers me most, the whole attitude that "Wenger plucked him from nowhere" like he was some little pauper playing on the streets of Dakar and Wenger was some sort of Mother Teresa. When I talk about a growing bandwagon, it's one I think is pushed by the Press more than anything.

Fact is, for me, he doesn't owe Arsenal anything more than his displays. He wasn't brought up through their youth system, he wasn't brought to Arsenal as some reserve who wasn't getting games elsewhere, he wasn't given "a chance" at CL football at Arsenal, or any other kind of chance. He was a player with some potential at Monaco who had played at CL level for a few seasons before Wenger bought to Premiership and helped him realise his potential, after which he rightly wanted a new contract that reflected his improved displays. Arsenal weren't forthcoming, so he looked elsewhere as plenty of ex-Arsenal players have done in the past due to the similar reasons.

i think a lot of the criticism levelled at adebayor is that he has an arrogant swagger to him, he appears to be all about himself, which is fine if you are busting your guts for a winning team but the truth is mentally Arsenal have not been right for a few years now and my suspicion is that it was all down to egos of the players involved....

Selling him for 25M is fucking great business by wenger IMO.

Interesting my gooner friends aren't bothered about him leaving because they say he's lazy, always off side, misses lots of easy chances and plays the media. If he's with international journalists he says Milan love it, if he's with the english press, Milan not interested. Even if those interviews were 3 minutes apart and in the same room as they were in one case last year.

They felt the bond with Arsenal was economic and not genuine.

Grand.. A newbie I am.. Chip on my shoulder, I'm not too sure..

A grateful little african? Nice. I don't think of him as an african.. I don't think many here do.. except you maybe. I look at him as a football player.

First his dance, then his 'accent', now his origin? Please think more highly of me. Those things don't matter. To my eyes, he's an arrogant mercenary and a lazy footballer to boot. Had he been English, he would still be an arrogant mercenary as well as a lazy footballer.

I hate this idea that because someone had a good season automatically they should be offered 100k a week.

Imagine the uproar if Newcastle had turned around to EMO a year ago and said "Er ... Michael , about this 120k we're paying you. You're injured all the time and shit when you do actually make it onto the pitch. We'd like to pay you 500 quid a week instead."

It seems Emmanuel disagrees with you. Or at least he did in May this year when he said this:

"Arsenal put me where I am today - they made me one of the biggest strikers in the world, I have to pay them back."

"How am I going to pay them back? Make them win trophies. That is what I am here for and I have to fight for that."

"I do not have any reason for leaving until I get the trophies that I came here for."

"We just have to play for our dignity, show character and hopefully come back".

Which appears to be in direct contrast to this:

"You are talking about in life and it is about money,"

"When we are young, of course we played because we loved the game, we play because we were passionate about the game.

"But now as soon as you reach a stage where you are professional and playing Champions League, after all those things we are talking about money.

"If it is not because of money, what am I going to be playing for Arsenal for? If it is not because of money I don't think I would go to Arsenal to play. I would stay in my country, I would stay in Lome where everyone loves me.

"If it's not because of money, I would not have come to Europe."

And he said this after signing a contract for City worth a reported £170k a week:

"People who think that I have joined City for the money are wrong."

"I want to win silverware and trophies. That is my ambition. The team has got quality and a manager who knows what he wants and is a nice guy."

The guy is an egotistical, money-grabbing mercenary - an unfortunate symptom of modern football.

we should put in a cheeky bid for bellemy. seriously.
[/quote]
Seriously not.

Anyways Wenger's done a great bit of business really with regards to Adebayor as Molbystwin's already said. He's selling a player for a small fortune that very likely never again will hit the heights of his 07/08 Season.

Him and Van Persie didn't tick that well this Season and whenever I watched him play - this bar the odd game here and there - he looked disinterested, slow and not really bothered.

he quick, tricky and has an eye for goal. also I suspect he'd rather be down the pecking order by 1 rather 5.

By all accounts, Bellamy put in some very good performances for City when he joined and score a few goals... but then he got injured again.

He's talented, but not talented enough to make up for his injury record and behaviour. No thanks.

I think he'll do well there providing he's motivated.

He's a very talented footballer.

You see that's where I think the Press have got a bandwagon rolling against the fella.

First of all, as I said above, all the interviews I've seen where his mouth was actually moving (not tabloid written ones) i've seen him say nothing wrong. Perhaps he's been putting on a great show, perhaps i've been hoodwinked. But just like all the 'apparent' daily Tevez interviews against Fergie, i'm always sceptical when the Press real these quotes with very little context, or worse still, interpreted from a different language. Personally, I think it's purely out of jealousy/fear of Man Citeh that everyone who seems to be joining them is being painted as a money-grabbing mercenary cnut. At the end of the day, it was Arsenal who wanted to sell him. With regards to Tevez, it just seems like the Press constantly rehash quotes of him criticizing Fergie to the point that it's got even Liverpool fans on this forum turned against him and backing Fergie (FFS).

Anyways, I've said my piece and I'm not one who feels the need to justify my opinion by winning some sort of argument. Personally, even if the quotes above were true, though out of context and not complete, I would still say that they aren't completely contradictory and if one knew the question posed to elicit such a response, one may understand the answers better. But hey, meh, i'm not here to change anyone's opinion on Adebayor or Tevez. I just think it's a victory for the Press. Maybe I'm wrong.

I just don't think he's the kind of striker we are looking for as back-up for Torres. Neither is Owen. We need a player capable of playing upfront on his own. Prefarably a strong fella who's good in the air as well.

If Torres gets injured we want someone who's got some of the same attributes at least. And not a small, pacey striker who's in desperate need of a 'Heskey'-type of player.

Having watched the friendly last night I must admit I'm warming more and more towards Ngog. His vision and flick-on's are already of high class and could he just bulk up a bit I'm not going to bet against him to enjoy quite a good Season as deputy for Torres now and then.

Players like Bendtner, Dzeko, Huntelaar on the cheap or maybe even that Spanish lad Guiza who's scoring for fun when replacing Torres on Int. level would somewhat fit the bill in my opinion.
