The explanation given, I believe, was that it was deemed that 17M for a teenager from South America was too much of a gamble.

But Rafa knew he'd be fantablous ....

great signing. anyone who thinks he won't adapt to the premiership is just envious

we could have had him a few seasons ago but instead we spent our money elsewhere
who said that? you probably thought sheva was a 'great signing' too, and that those who doubted his ability to adapt to the premiership were envious too?

unless you can show that 'we could have had him a few seasons ago' with a legit source, then your post is just typical 'Oh I hate Rafa but I'll try and hide it' shit.
you getting desperate ltw? trying to compare this lad to sheva is a bit dumb imo.

oh what's a legit source these days? can you prove we were not in for him? there was plenty of speculation at the time and you all know it. if he has gone to chelsea its imo a missed opportunity for us.
Desperate? I thought Torres would struggle in England. I was wrong. I thought Veron would struggle. I was right. I thought Sheva would be shit, I was right. I thought Nani would be fantastic, I was wrong. I thought Ronaldo would be good after watching 'that' friendly (Lisbon/Manure), pity I was right. Fact is, Atleti fans think he's a lazy bastard and that says something because they, unlike you, watch him week in and week out. I won't lie, I like the kid a lot but just because he looks dynamite on your youtube flicks doesn't translate into a 'success' in the Premier League or with a top 4 team in England.

So you have no link whatsoever to your 'we could have had him a few seasons ago' link - but it's just there to say, "Another screw up for Rafa, sign up Steve Bruce'

There was LITTLE SPECULATION - He said he had a soft spot for us after the Champion league final (2005). Big speculation there.
the desperate bit was you trying to compare a hasbeen at the end of his career never playing in the premiership to a player coming into his prime about to play in the premiership.

over complicate things all you want. divert attention to 50 other topics. we had the chance to sign him and didn't.

Wereas i believe that was the season we had to get in three or four players with a total budget not much bigger than that amount...

we need a wheeler dealer is waht we need...

yeah sure, we need to sign every rumour that ever surfaced, wave the moolah and it is a done deal. but we didn't, that is why it is always Parry/Rafa's fault...

If even they set up the deal now will it not officially be done in the summer when they won't be allowed to do deals?
Chelsea's ban has already been lifted. Keep abreast now.

I think Rage is right. We were in for him but the price was deemed too much. Pity - fabulous player who I'm sure will be a major success here with quality players around him - something he doesn't have at relegation threatened Atleti.

I'm not sure about Aguero, he blows hot and cold, is small, can leave too much space etc. He's not the wonderkid he's built up to be and was dropped by Maradona for the national team, considering he's married to his daughter that surprised me but his performances have been awful.

Not worth the ridiculous price tag.

In a world where Berbatov is sold for over 30M, he probably is.

I agree that his reputation doesn't quite match up with reality just yet, but he's still young and in the right environment has the potential to justify a massive price tag.

Translation: I'm owned, please lay off me.

Reaction: Ok Raja, no problemo.

Aguero hints at move? I have a feeling he may end up with AC Milan ...

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero has acknowledged he may be leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the player who scored against them in the Champions League last month.

The 21-year-old Argentinian is one of the players being talked about as a possible big-money signing for the Barclays Premier League team during the January transfer window, with Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and John Obi Mikel leaving the Blues on African Nations Cup duty.

However, while repeating his intention to stay with the Spanish club for the remainder of the season, Aguero does not have a clear picture of where he will be beyond then.

He explained: "I've always told the club that from now until June I'll stay here.

"Then we will see what they do. If in June the club still need money there are ways to help.

"This (Madrid) is my home but if the club have to sell me I must go.

"I know nothing. Now I need to concentrate on getting us into Europe."

Aguero impressed in Sunday's 4-0 defeat of Espanyol, scoring twice and creating the other goals for strike partner Diego Forlan and Maxi Rodriguez.

It gave Atletico only their second win of the La Liga season - but moved them out of the relegation zone.

Aguero & Pato upfront?

Aren't they of similar type? Milan are after Dzeko I have heard.
Dzeko is after Milan. He talks about wanting to move to Milan very much these days.
