Chelsea Fucked?

They are freezing the asset, not appropriating it.

So Chelsea will remain Chelski. Tuchel, Lukaku etc will continue to be paid. They will still play Lille and Norwich and qualify for the CL semi finals.
They're not fucked in the least bit. The only difference is that Roman may no longer feel incentivized to rig the CL draw.

In the short term, and in footballing terms, not a lot changes, but the longer it goes on the more trouble they are in.

They can still play matches and pay costs associated with matches, and they can still pay players and staff, but they wouldn't be able to do anything else, which includes buying players, signing new contracts or anything that generates income. Presumably if it drags on under these conditions the business would not be sustainable.

"I did not have sexual relations with that asset"

Considering they're losing 2, if not 3 centre backs this summer; the longer this goes on the more reliant they are on kids

Those costs are interesting.

I mean, I have no idea at all how much it costs for clubs to put on home games and no idea how much it costs them in travel etc for away games but presumably, for the latter, if they have a big European game it could stretch to quite a lot.

Players, coaching staff, their media and social media staff, remember they probably fly to certain games too, i.e. anything up North (Liv, Ev, Man City, Man Utd, Burnley, Newcastle), hotels. No way £20k covers all that. Like I said, coach and the Ibis for them now.

I think the government can still allow a sale to happen, but no money would go to Abramovich.

What I am not sure of is where the money actually would go, and until it is sold, or if it is not, how the club still functions as a business while it is frozen. I know they have permission to keep playing matches, but any kind of commercial activity must be difficult under these circumstances.

How about put it in escrow and use it to give to the Ukranians to rebuild the country after the war

- cannot sell tickets (only season tickets already sold)
- cannot sell merchandise
- cannot sign players or new contracts for players
The tickets bit looks like it's been rowed back a bit.

All individual tickets sold before 10th March will still be valid.

If Chelsea are like most premier league teams, the individual tickets until the end of the season will have been mostly sold by now.

Abram started his business career making plastic toys, so no doubt it was his idea to dish out plastic flags. But now that Chelsea have had their balls frozen it should be incumbent on the Premier League and Masters to reset the requirements in terms of making sure prospective owners pass a more rigourous fit and proper person/company test.

The game has it's roots firmly in the working class heartlands but now than connection is flimsy or at worse non existent.

Yes, you’re right. Even if they really cut down on the number of staff going to away matches, it will be pretty difficult for them.

Three U.K. have said that they are ‘reviewing their relationship with Chelsea’. Which means that they are looking for a way out.

Shit mobile network anyway, i'm glad I cut my ties with them long ago

Apparently every game will have a solidarity thing for Ukraine.

China are pissed off and said they won't show any game, rather than just cut the first few minutes.
Actually they stopped showing PL games in China years ago when the PL started asking for too much. There havn't been ANY PL games on official channels for years! So this sounds like media spiel.

Quarters. Where they'll meet us and their CL demise.

So as part of the Abromovitch sanctions Chelsea are now under special license:

  • Can pay staff & players
  • Can pay 'reasonable' travel costs up to £20k/away match
  • Can pay 'reasonable' services of up to £500k/home match
  • Can still be televised
  • Season ticket holders and any tickets already pre-paid will be honoured
  • No new ticket sales
  • Transfer ban in place
  • Not allowed to negotiate new contracts (Rudiger!)
  • Not allowed to do any refurbs to ground

Their kit sponsor is reviving their deal as well now. Surely they'll want to cancel that sponsorship.

They are going to struggle to make £20k stretch to an away CL tie, Lille should be ok but Madrid would be tough!
