I don't think the team looked comfortable playing with three at the back and I reckon us fans are even less so at the prospect of seeing it again.
However with the current players available the 4-3-3 may not be our strongest formation either.
So what do we do?
A 4-2-3-1 with Sturridge up front behind Coutinho, Firmino and Origi. Can and Wijnaldum holding?
A 4-1-4-1 with Lucas behind a four of Can Wijnaldum, Coutinho and Firmino with a choice of Sturridge or Origi up front.
The sooner we get Lallana and Hendo back the better.

Klopp did say the team didn't really get a chance to train in the new formation so no surprise the players looked lost.

No idea why they're not training in several formations throughout the season for situations like this though.

Yeah, without Mane 4-3-3 might not be the best formation for us. Neither Sturridge nor Origi looked convincing in that system. I remember Origi and Sturridge played well together in a "diamond" system and Firmino and Sturridge as well last season. It can be either "diamond" or "Christmas tree," not much difference. So the front 3 can look like this:

--------Sturridge (Origi)---------Firmino----------
------------------------Coutinho----------------------

Or like this:

-----------------Sturridge (Origi)-------------------
----------Coutinho----------------Firmino----------

But either way the idea is to keep all 3 attackers even more centrally than in Klopp's 4-3-3 system and probably push the full-backs even higher up the pitch to compensate. Maybe Moreno can play instead of Milner in some games. Can and Wijnaldum/Lallana will need to make runs down the wings regularly to keep defenders from clogging the middle.

Just play our regular 4-3-3 but with Origi or Woodburn out wide on the right - with instructions to get in and around the area whenever we have the ball.

Lallana will likely be back right?

Id play
Mignolet
Clyne
Lovren
Matip
Milner

Wijnaldum
Can
Lallana

Firmino
Sturridge
Coutinho
