Anyone know much about him? Wenger (and latterly Mourinho) has been sniffing around for ages but seems content to wait until the summer when available on a free.

He's a physical target man, pacy enough and fired Bordeaux to the title last season. 25 years old and ready for the step up to a bigger league and club.

Shouldn't we be offering Bordeaux a few million in january to get him? - in the summer he'll likely have the pick of clubs (and wages).

Thought he was a shoe in for Arse? Man Utd are also sniffing around.

I can't recall ever seeing him play, but a few of todays papers have stated that we've joined the race to sign him up on a pre contract.

The Times also reports that Liverpool have entered the race to sign Bordeaux's much sought-after striker Marouane Chamakh - also an Arsenal target.

The 25-year-old's contract expires in the summer and he is in a position to discuss pre-contract agreements with other clubs.

If Benitez can persuade the Moroccan to move to Anfield rather than the Emirates it will be a blow for Arsene Wenger, who also faces losing one of his emerging stars in the summer.

Fran Merida is said to be on the verge of agreeing a move to Atletico Madrid after failing to establish himself as a regular in the Arsenal first team. His contract expires in the summer and the Mail reports that he will sign a four year deal with Atletico in June.

With the fuss that's being made about Chamakh (probably deservedly, given who's said to be making it, but I haven't seen the guy play myself) I doubt he'd accept playing second fiddle, even to Torres. Not sure about Inter either - Eto'o isn't exactly tearing up Serie A, but he's still a big obstacle to any up-and-coming striker. Paradoxically enough (given our current form), Chamakh may have a better chance of becoming a first team regular with the Arse or the Mancs.

if arsenal don't get him, i'd be very worried it's Babel MK II. I'm not impressed by him at all ... Though I've only seen him about 5 times.

It is easier to swallow a £0 million flop than an £11 million one.

Come on, he's not a total 11 million flop. We would get most of it back if Brum do buy him and he has got winners in games where there where you can actual put a value on such Arsenal CL quarters and Man UTD last season etc. Bit harsh I think...

Eto'o still have 8 goals to be fair. Inter also have D. Milito up front.

He has still been a flop at the end of the day to be fair mate.

Chamakh has a goal scoring ratio like Emile Heskey though, and thats in the French league.

I'm not totally against it, as he is an imrpovement on what we've got. But I'm not overly exiced either. He looked to be a certain going to the Arse, but now he looks like he could be up for grabs. Wenger won't spend any money on him in january, and Bordeaux wants some crazy sums to part with him now.

"Chamakh is the French Heskey until proven otherwise" ... I seem to remember someone having that tagline about Cisse on KT for about 3 years solid (cant say he was that wrong though)

But even if we were to land him on bosman, surely there'll be sign on fees etc. Anyway, big decision ahead for him and its hard to see him wanting to come over and be a squad player, unless of cos, he's offered big bucks, which seems unlikely in our case.

We could use a target man, and on a free its even better, he clearly is talented and signing on fees will still be much cheaper than buying another option especially at his age. Plus with him being 25 there is the option to sell on for a decent fee.

Yeah, agree. But just can't see him coming over, even if our interest is firm and genuine. Besides, we aren't assured of CL qualification too so he probably wouldn't want to commit (i.e. if he likes/wants to come over) to a pre-contract until situation gets clearer on that front.

Firstly as Hansern said - his goal ratio is not even good never mind great. I have seen him play and although he looks good around the park he is very hit and miss in front of goal - really just like Cisse.

For zero outlay then yes I can see the interest however he's 25 not 21 and should have got his move to a big club before now.

Dubious.

Afraid you are probably right, the only way to probably get him is offering mega bucks, which obviously we dont have.

CL qualification isnt assured, and dare i say its looking grim.

But we are Liverpool, and i refuse to berlieve that we simply cannot attract quality players to wear the Red.

We have NOT fallen that far yet.

If only footballers (well, mostly) aren't as mercenary. And seeing this lad running down his contract, 'flirting' with interest during the summer etc... ...

If only we had signed Anelka when we had the chance... several times over.

Even at 15M, he was still a bargain.

Wrong thread Keni.

Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh has revealed that he wants to move to England this summer when he becomes a free agent and sign for Arsenal.

A host of teams have been chasing the highly-rated Moroccan international, who is out of contract at Bordeaux in the summer, but he has now revealed he wants to sign for the Gunners.

Arsenal tried to sign the 26-year-old last summer but could not agree terms, but Arsene Wenger has retained his interest.

However, in recent times Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton and Sunderland have all made contact with Chamakh's representatives as he is now free to talk terms with any interested clubs.

Inter Milan, Juventus and Sevilla have also been in touch, but Chamakh has now confirmed that he wants to move to the Emirates.

"My future? Well, I hold all the cards, I have no reason to be under pressure but everyday passing by, I am a little less a Bordeaux player," he revealed.

"My choice is to join Premier League and if I could choose, I will go to Arsenal.

"Bordeaux has brought me so much. I will soon clearly state things so the club can prepare to find my replacement peacefully."
